The real reason America created police

(Erased Century) This documentary traces a process through the architecture and legal history of Europe’s built environment. Let's examine the "window tax" and how a levy designed as a proxy for wealth reshaped homes across Britain by encouraging owners to brick up their own windows.

Let's look at the Assize of Bread and Ale, a medieval system that allowed prices, weights, and quality to be checked openly in public. Follow the history of buildings like the Cloth Hall in Ypres, where commerce once operated in direct view of the town square through dozens of open doorways. Let's place those systems beside the English Enclosure Movement, where common land was steadily converted into private property through acts of Parliament.

What emerges is not just a story about taxation or urban design. It is a story about the disappearance of public accountability from physical space.

For centuries, economic life was not fully hidden behind offices, contracts, and restricted records. It was built into rooms, halls, scales, galleries, and open market floors. Any person could walk into a civic building, compare a measure, challenge a weight, observe a transaction, or see standards enforced in public. Accountability was not abstract. It was architectural.

But that world was gradually sealed off. The window tax, introduced in 1696, is remembered for darkening homes by encouraging the bricking-up of windows. Yet, light was only one thing being lost.

Across the same broad period, older systems of public regulation were dismantled, guild [the democratic organizations that governed the trades] enforcement weakened, common land enclosed, and civic spaces repurposed.

Rooms that once served open economic functions became offices, storage areas, archives, or restricted institutional space. Doors that had once meant access remained on the facade while the rights attached to them quietly disappeared.

And then there is what happens when those sealed spaces are opened again. Again and again, renovations, fires, and accidental discoveries reveal that the hidden spaces inside old buildings contain histories far more significant than the official story above them.

Archeologists working beneath France's Notre Dame uncovered long-buried tombs and forgotten medieval sculpture. Hidden remains were found inside Benjamin Franklin’s former London home. Other sealed spaces have revealed tunnels, preserved rooms, and material evidence of functions long erased from public memory.

The pattern is difficult to ignore: Once the wall comes down, the building tells a different story.

This documentary follows that pattern across law, architecture, archeology, and urban memory. It asks what disappeared when public rooms were reclassified, when shared land was enclosed, and when physical access to standards, oversight, and verification was replaced by distance and authority.

It is not only about bricked-up windows. It is about bricked-up systems — systems that once allowed ordinary people to see, measure, question, and hold power accountable in plain sight.

Slavery: Harriet Tubman Day (3/10)

Official prototype of $20 bill featuring Tubman with addition of the hint of a Mona Lisa smile.
.
Proposed redesigns of the American 20 dollar bill: In a campaign called "Women on 20s," selected voters were asked to choose three of 15 female candidates to have a portrait on the $20 bill. The goal was to have a woman on the $20 bill by 2020, the centennial of the 19th Amendment which gave women the right to vote [13]. Among the candidates on the petition were former slave Harriet Tubman, Eleanor Roosevelt, Rosa Parks, and Wilma [White-] Mankiller, the first female chief of the Cherokee Nation [14]. Who knows if low rent hoodlums and Vegas casino rats could ever get used to saying they're "all about the Tubmans"? More

It features expert interviews with leading scholars, including Dr. Eric Lewis Williams of the Smithsonian Institute and Carl Westmoreland of the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center.

It also features remarkable early 20th century audio recordings of African-American spirituals sung by former slaves. Harriet Tubman is a familiar and revered name in American history. But many are unfamiliar with the details of her remarkable story, the depth of her character, and the inner motivations that drove her.

Harriet Tubman was not a US military spy.
Born into slavery in Maryland in the 1820s, Harriet Tubman's resolute Christian faith would compel her to extraordinary acts of courage and sacrifice.

Through her selfless efforts, hundreds of African-American slaves escaped to freedom. Tubman's tenacious trust in God and love for others earned her the title "the Moses of her people."

Getting into the USA via Tijuana, Mexico

At the USA/Mexico border: Tijuana πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈπŸ‡²πŸ‡½
(Joe HaTTab) What is Tijuana? It is the biggest city along the border. Joe H travels the world to film interesting locations (and seems to have the help of a voiceover to present what he finds). Instagram   ➭ joe_hattab. Huge thanks to my friend Baja Cali Food for all the help in TJ. The food of Mexico is full of fried fat and many unhealthy things to tickle the tastebuds with too much spice, salt, chiles, processed oils, flours, and chemicals. It's garbage on the streets. Welcome to Fats Ville. Eat organic in someone's home with fresh herbs and handmade tortillas, and it might be healthy. But fried on a roach coach and sold for cheap? Tasty garbage. bajacalifood @bajacalifood ● Joe's IG ➭ joe_hattab

Crisis at the US-Mexico border (alarmism)

Daily Show; Jimmy Dore; Pfc. Sandoval, Ashley Wells, Seth Auberon (eds.), Wisdom Quartelry

Jon Stewart on bi migrant fearmongering, Ronny Chieng on Trump's Black AI attempt
(The Daily Show) March 9, 2024: Jon Stewart unpacks the GOP’s migrant crime fearmongering and brings in genius comedienne Desi Lydic to brainstorm on how Democrats might convict Trump. Ronny Chieng recaps Super Tuesday, the U.S. sending trivial and pathetic amounts of humanitarian aid to Gaza while generously funding Israel's genocide, ethnic cleansing, and crimes against humanity (no matter that the International Court of Justice is onto both countries and pursuing prosecutions against them, for which they will diplomatically cover one another as they have done for a long time), and Trump’s attempt to lure in Black voters with AI.

(Jimmy Dore) Our open border policy is intended to destroy America
Jimmy Dore RESPONDS to immigration stance hypocrisy accusation

Tweedle-dumb and Tweedle-Dem (Money Party)
Jimmy Dore, with more information, makes an about face and agrees that the border needs to be shut down because this crisis is being manufactured intentionally for some other purpose, such as what favors the ruling class of billionaire donors/movers and shakers behind our one-party system, with two wings and two wingnuts (Trump and Biden) as the faces of each side when they don't decide anything they are not allowed to decide. In this sense, Trump might be 1% better than Biden because he frustrates the ruling class by not opening new war fronts, whereas Biden never met a military engagement he didn't like and support, other than Vietnam when he was at risk of potentially being drafted, not that that was going to be allowed to happen. Would Trump accept a new war if it meant the powers that be promised to get him (s)elected him next time. We think so. He's really no substantive alternative to the current system just more of the same with more bluster, self-interest, and stupidity to boot. Vote neither of the two evils. Go Green with Jill Stein. Go Independent with Andrew D. Basiago. Go Libertarian with RFK Jr. Anything might be better than more of the same old same old. Because as a wise observer once said, "If you think the System is working, you must be working for the System." Down with the System. Reform it, realign it, or revolt against it. This is no way for a free country to keep deceiving its citizens and the world.

The Chimpanzee Civil War of 1974 (video)

Sheldon S., CC Liu, Pfc. Sandoval (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly

The insanity of the Gombe Chimpanzee War
(National Park Diaries) Aug. 21, 2023: GOMBE NATIONAL PARK The Gombe Chimpanzee War was an intergroup conflict between two chimpanzee communities in Gombe National Park, Tanzania, Africa.

Prior to this conflict being observed, it was thought that chimpanzees were largely peaceful creatures and vegetarians. But Jane Goodall and other researchers soon opened up a whole new world of chimpanzee conflict and social dynamics with their observations of this conflict.

It's a fascinating look at the brutality of the natural world and perhaps provides an opportunity to reflect on our human capacity for violence as well.

Irish brought as slaves to US before Blacks?

Colin D. Heaton, Forgotten History, 2/23; Pat Macpherson, Dhr. Seven (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly
Truth about the Irish: First slaves brought to the Americas (most others just enslaved here)
We're not "slaves"! We're "servants"
(Forgotten History) Slavery is perhaps one of the oldest profit-making endeavors in human history and the Irish were a special target for a thousand years, persecuted by one faction or another, to include enslavement (chattel slavery) and the nicer sounding euphemism "indentured servitude." But were they the first slaves in the Americas [-- even before the indigenous "Indians" (First Nations peoples) and Blacks (aboriginal descendants not brought from Africa but taken into custody here]? Find out on Forgotten History hosted by Colin D. Heaton. #forgottenhistorychannel

[Black Irish is a real term (and there are actual Black people in Ireland like the Moors who ruled Europe for centuries during the "Dark" Ages () or anyone with dark hair and eyes, like some Spanish traders), and an ancient Egyptian princess was said to be Queen Scotia of Ireland/Scotland.]

Memphis killer-cops KILL Tyre Nichols (video)

WATCH: DC protests the murder of Tyre Nichols, beaten by racist Black Memphis police
(WUSA9) Streaming live Jan. 27, 2023. WARNING: This video shows a live protest where profanity may be used. State oppression in the name of "security" efforts are ramping up in the District of Columbia on Friday night in response to rallies over the release of body camera footage showing killer cops deploying deadly force used by police against an innocent 29-year-old Black Memphis man. Tyre Nichols succumbed to his severe injuries after his brutal Jan. 7th beating by police officers three days later during an unprovoked traffic stop. Five fired officers are now being charged with second-degree murder. Bodycam video from the incident is expected to be released to the public Friday sometime after 7:00 pm, and Memphis authorities say they are braced for public unrest and riots. In D.C., heightened security measures were taken, with the entire MPD force (more than 3,000 officers) activated and fencing installed late Thursday night around the U.S. Capitol. MPD said they expected to have 600 extra people on the ground, including more than two dozen platoons from the Civil Disturbance Unit. Officers will remain on 12-hour shifts until the activation protocol is lifted. Read morewusa9.com

Memphis BLM activist: Tyre Nichols's killing is part of police brutality crisis for Black residents
(Democracy Now!) Jan. 27, 2023. Amid nationwide protests, prosecutors charge five former Memphis police officers with murder in the death of Tyre Nichols, who finally died of his injuries on January 10 of kidney failure and cardiac arrest after a severe and vicious beating three days earlier during a traffic stop.

Memphis and other cities across the U.S. are expecting mass protests against police violence, with body-camera footage of the deadly traffic stop set to be released Friday evening.

Democracy Now! goes to Memphis for an update from community organizer Amber Sherman, a member of the Memphis chapter of Black Lives Matter, who says police brutality is nothing new for many residents. "It's literally just being caught on camera," Sherman says.

"We have experienced this same kind of violence over and over and over again in our communities."

Racism was in the past. Get over it. (video)

Ed Bradley, Radutzky, Simon, 60 Minutes; NBC; Seth Auberon, Ashley Wells, Wisdom Quarterly

I'm not racist. This [N-word] is on the force, too.
All racism was in the past. Everything was in the past. A lot of it is in the present, too. And we're willing to bet it will be with us in the future. That's why we talk about it so much. How can anyone "get over it" when after all the attention drawn to Mr. George Floyd, another would-be killer cop was caught on camera attempting to commit murder by use of the carotid artery choke hold? Will he be charged with attempted murder, reckless disregard, a violation of use-of-force policy?

Modern police were born from old slave patrols.
Not likely, but he may be sent out for additional training on how to apply violence to anyone he doesn't like, which may include blacks. At least one of the other officers on the black man at the time told him to lay off so that the victim of the police brutality was not killed on the street like so many others have been.

Officer Derek Chauvin: I'm going to squeeze.
Here the ever-bland 60 Minutes looks at the case of shocking racism in policing, the use of prison and parole as the modern means of legally enslaving blacks, mass incarceration, and complete racial bias in policing and the courts.

(NBC News) Today, it's not just racist implicitly biased white men. It's women, too, the "Karens."
.
A white informant is hired by police with federal money to round up as many black citizens of Tulia, Texas, as he can under the mantle of "the war on drugs."

Violence is not a crime if police do it [to blacks].
There were no drugs being sold, and no evidence that any law had been broken -- other than the word of one white man (Tom Coleman). The court saw fit to mete out hundreds of years of prison time with just that racist white man's word. Is he just "one bad apple," or are the police, courts, and judges many rotten apples in a rotten system?

Kops Keep Killing + Karens Keep Karping

Kops Keep Killing: KKK (1)
Sheriff's deputies are now paramilitary agents.
LANCASTER, Los Angeles County - A black man's house was broken into by police, who then shot him to death. The name of the shooter was not released to protect him. This intentional killing was committed by Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies in Lancaster early Thursday morning.

The black man, Michael Thomas, 62, was shot on purpose in his own living room after sheriff's deputies responded to unfounded reports of a domestic altercation inside the home between Thomas and his hard of hearing fiancΓ©. According to the deputies with blood on their hands, Mr. Thomas came to the door but refused to comply with their demands.

Why would anyone think sheriffs are "racist"?
“I heard [the deceased victim] Michael say, ‘I have a right to not let you in my house,'” said his partially deaf fiancΓ©, Kimberly Smith. Her story differs from deputies’ telling of what happened next. He was only turning away from them, she explains. The LA Sheriff’s Department, speaking for the killers, says the deputies struggled with Mr. Thomas for no apparent reason and then claim he was reaching down.

One deputy claims to have interpreted that this meant Mr. Thomas was going to try to take one of their guns, leaving the deputy open to execute the black man and claim the homicide was permissible, or at least the sort of police-involved shooting that the deceased cannot contest so the officer's word is taken as all the evidence needed to close the case without ever filing criminal charges that might deter these incidents. The county will have to pay out a considerable civil fine to make it all go away in spite of all the recent protests against this very excessive force policing. More

Karens Keep Karping: KKK (2)
.
TORRANCE, Los Angeles - A white woman (a "Karen"/"Susan" thought to be "crazy lady" Lena Hernandez) was caught on video.

"Karens" are entitled and racist white women
She was unleashing a racist tirade towards an Asian woman, who was exercising on concrete stairs in Torrance this week. The Amy Cooper-style confrontation took place just after 9:00 am Wednesday at Wilson Park in Torrance, according to a Facebook post that included three videos. One 34-second video shows the white woman going up and down the stairs in close proximity to a younger non-white woman using the stairs to exercise. More

KKK l
ynching of young black man over a "racist message" in front of City Hall in Palmdale?

.
PALMDALE - Robert Fuller, 20-something, was found hanged in front of City Hall. The young black man was fully dressed and dead dangling from a rope and a branch. Police are quickly claiming it was "suicide," claiming there were no additional wounds to prove otherwise. The oddity of his death, the strange location, the recent national uprising, the racist history of Palmdale somehow did not figure into their short "investigation." However, who can believe murderous police or their stenographers the mainstream media? Here's the story from NewsOne.com.
