We saw it on an IMAX screen, sitting in the front row heads cranked up to take in the whole screen, for it to be in our faces and extra loud. And that it was. It's good, really good. It's no The Song Remains the Same, which is a filmed concert at Madison Square Garden, New York, in the 1970s with the conceit of introducing them as legendary, bigger-than-life figures, particularly Page, who lived in a castle next to Loch Ness. This is a talking head documentary interspersed with historical footage and tight editing. The most amazing thing about it is that it does not pander to Johnny-come-lately fans. There is no mention of "Stairway to Heaven," their biggest hit ever. This is about the early, heavy days, coming out of nowhere by combining early blues from The States (muddy "Black" music), which a lot of young Brits were hearing for the first time with this new thing called "rock 'n roll."

Like Elvis and others appropriated the blood, sweat, and tears of post-slavery suffering crystalized into music, so Led Zeppelin paid homage to their heroes and cashed in like those heroes never did. It was blatant with Elvis and not so obvious where Led Zeppelin, most notably lead guitarist Jimmy Page, was coming up with the inspiration for so many catchy riffs (a demon named Zoso, the Devil, spirits of the dead still under contract, lifting ideas from the fertile London scene of his day, entheogenic drugs?), loud amplification, and blending the hardest music anyone had ever heard with plaintive love ballads of the hippie era (late 60s, early 70s). Sadly, there was no mention of the sexual abuse of young groupies, for which they are infamous, or recreational drug use. Some lawyer or PR firm was smart to keep a lid on those facets of their career. The movie ends abruptly with their second album before as they are reaching superstardom. Highly recommended! Animals like the beat and melody of music? Let's take a deep dive into the effects heavy metal (with all its genres like death metal, symphonic metal, extreme metal, speed metal, black metal, etc.) music can have on mental health.
Why kill (when you can overkill)? What's the fun of being a guitar heroine unless you can rub it in their face and say, "Hey, look, Men, you may think you're all that, but you can't hold a candle to girls. If she'd existed and had been more talented than he, we'd still never know it due to implicit bias and sexism ingrained in us. We're losing more than half the talent pool to discrimination. Sadly, heavy metal is viewed as a thing for boys. And that it may be. But in actuality, the best, heaviest, most listenable metal incorporates a femaletouch. Here's all the proof we need:
Why this should be so, in our opinion, is that if metal music is like very strong black coffee (or bitter dark chocolate). It sucks, but it suddenly becomes delicious for its darkness when paired with some toasty nonsense like sweet biscotti.
A little biscotti -- or sugar, or creamer, or foam -- makes coffee go a long way, like cafe latte. All dark all the time is ick, yack, hurl, a strong jolt, sure, but not exactly palatable all the time.
Add that accent and then addiction really sets in. The best example of this may be the best metal combo ever is partly Japanese Buddhist (shown above in front of GoddessKwannon/Kwan Yin): BabyMetal!

Metallica used to be good right at the beginning, like the first two albums, but after that? C'mon. Slipknot has been great since the first album, staying heavy yet melodic with Corey Taylor's vocal range. The old white men at the Grammys are certainly not breaking any ground to honor Metalica. It would have been a greater honor to give them a lifetime achievement award and let it go at that. Their ship has sailed, and there are lots of better ships on the sea now. Okay, so Stranger Things revived an interest in "Master of Puppets" and the band, but that song came about very early on. It's not representative. Look at all the excitement Slipknot is able to arouse at a show.

This story of British "divide and conquer" is so old, it was probably taken from the Roman Empire, which morphed into Britain (United Kingdom) or what we call England, which morphed into what we can call the genocidal marauders who created this country (Columbia, aka Amerigo Vespucci's "America," which is not really where the name comes from, but that's the cover story. Nu metal is the best metal in the Americas
(Latino USA) In a world full of stereotypes, Latinos listen to nothing but tropical rhythms with heavy [bongo] percussion.
But the reality is that heavy metal is one of the biggest genres of music across Latin America (Meso-, Central-, and South Americas), with bands like [Slayer and Sepultura], Iron Maiden and Judas Priest selling out huge arenas whenever they tour in the region.
Arena rock is better than sports, except futbol
“It sounds like for many people that is noise, but it’s not. You have to be a very accomplished musician,” says Rodrigo Sanchez of the guitar duo Rodrigo y Gabriela that has been known to make virtuosic acoustic covers of metal songs [in Ireland].
Heavy metal began in the late 60s and early 70s in Great Britain, in part as a reaction to economic crisis that was gripping the country at the time. Many young people were unemployed and angry and looking for a place to express themselves.

They created a sound even more rebellious than plain old rock 'n roll.
That sound spread throughout Europe, to the United States, and to Latin America — a region where many had their own reasons to be angry at the world.
