Bhikkhu Bodhi greets Peace Walk monks

Who is Bhikkhu Bodhi?

Social and Communal Harmony
Born Jeffrey Block (Dec. 10, 1944), now known as Bhikkhu Bodhi [a], is an American Theravada Buddhist scholar-monk, a major inspiration for Wisdom Quarterly: American Buddhist Journaleducated in California, ordained in Sri Lanka, and now teaching in New York and New Jersey.
  • Long ago at BPS, Bhikkhu Bodhi authorized our Dharma editor to promote his mail order Buddhist course called The Buddha's Teaching: As It Is, a ten-cassette set he recorded in the basement of the Washington Buddhist Vihara with glossary and notes. To reach a wider audience, we took it online with millions of views, our dhamma-dana.
He is a prolific Pali canon translator, author, and Buddhist commentator, long ago appointed the second president of BPS.lk (the Buddhist Publication Society) [2]. He is the current president of BAUS.org (the Buddhist Association of America), and the founder of the Buddhist charity Buddhist Global Relief [3].

Early life
Whaddya mean ya wanna leave Jud'ism to JuBu?
Block was born in Brooklyn, NY, in 1944 to Jewish parents. He grew up in Borough Park, where he attended elementary school P.S. 160 [4] and graduated from New Utrecht High School [5]. He then worked as a door-to-door salesman selling paintbrushes [6].

In 1966, he obtained a B.A. in philosophy from Brooklyn College, where he first encountered Buddhism in books at the bookstore [6]. In 1972, he obtained a doctoral degree (PhD) in philosophy from Claremont Graduate University [7, 8] in Southern California before deciding to move to Asia to ordain as a monk. More

Peace Walk ends: Buddhist monks reach DC

Aloka: So we turn around and start to walk back now? There are so many people I want to see.
TODAY'S LIVESTREAM

Venerable Buddhist monks touch hearts during Walk for Peace in Virginia en route to DC
(ABC 7 News - WJLA) Feb. 6, 2026: “If you’re not at peace, where are we?" said Caroline County resident Sue Iszczenko while she and her daughter Kayla waited for the venerable Buddhist monks to walk past them on their route from Texas to Washington, D.C., promoting inner and world peace.

Hi, I'm Aloka the Peace Dog
In a time defined by [Trump] turmoil, with a nation fractured, hundreds came from far and wide, gathering roadside in rural Caroline County to witness 20 Buddhist monks [and a dog named Aloka] journey a portion of 2,300 arduous miles – from Texas to D.C. – advocating for harmony in a world gone haywire. So sweet — when Buddhist monks walking for peace make everyone smile
(AmeriScope) Feb. 5, 2026: Some moments don’t need to be explained. We see them — and we smile spontaneously. This video captures one of those moments. It is so sweet in its simplicity that Americans naturally slow down and feel lighter, even if for just a moment.

Nothing here is planned. Nothing is performed. The sweetness comes from small, human interactions — the kind that happen when kind people are present and open. A smile appears unexpectedly. Gestures are genuine. Someone pauses, not because they have to but because they want to.

These moments change the world little by little because inner peace expresses as world peace. They change the moment. As part of the Walk for Peace, scenes like this appear along the road — not loud or dramatic, just quietly heartwarming. People notice without trying. They react without thinking. And suddenly, the space is warmer.

Aloka the Peace Dog is the big star walking
This movement isn’t about distance, destination, or purpose. It’s about feeling. It’s about how sweetness shows up when no one is trying to impress or persuade.
  • What is the way to such "sweetness"? The Buddha taught four sublime meditations called the Four Supreme Abidings:
  1. loving-kindness (metta)
  2. compassion (compassion)
  3. joy in the joy of others (mudita)
  4. unbiased looking on (upekkha)
It happens when people are simply themselves. In a world that often feels rushed and heavy, moments like this land differently. They do not demand attention. They invite a smile. Sometimes that’s enough. This is a reminder that kindness doesn’t always look serious. Sometimes, it just looks sweet.

What was the last small moment that made you smile without expecting it? #PeaceWalk #AlokaDog #Texas #WashingtonDC #SweetMoments #EverydayJoy #LittleThingsMatter #FeelGoodVideo #WarmMoments #LifeAsItIs

American ship lands on Moon? (video)

Ooh, look, there we are in the foreground! (Who's taking the picture?) And the Pale Blue Dot!

Lunar lander Blue Ghost touches down
(ABC News) Texas startup Firefly Aerospace made history today (Sunday, March 2, 2025) when it allegedly landed its spacecraft, Blue Ghost, on the lunar surface with a flawless touchdown. ABC News reports.

Devas are 'shining ones,' celestial deities
We didn't get to our Moon (Luna, Chandra, Soma) the first time, says Eric Dubay (as seen on bitchute.com), so it's doubtful the U.S. had a lander there now.

But that's what the mainstream media is feeding us. So let's suck on this story with lip smacks and baby faces.

Budai (not Buddha) points at Moon
Ooh, ahh, we're so great, we're Number 1! Take that, Russia! Eat our shorts, China! Have a seat, India! Don't even think it, Japan.

Private contractor Firefly Aerospace out of Texas (what, not Elon Musk Global Corp?) has done NASA the favor of placing a lunar lander on the hollow celestial body that is Earth's own satellite. Or so they say.

Three earthquakes hit Los Angeles island

The 22 BEST things to do on Catalina Island
(Travel The Top) July 30, 2022: Looking for the best things to do on Catalina Island in Los Angeles, California? Look no further: This video shows the endless possibilities on this "hidden paradise in Southern California."
.
We came to Morocco and found the same thing.
Los Angeles is a strange and wonderful place. It is massive and misunderstood. First of all, there are two Los Angeleeses, the city and the county. The city has more than 4 million people crammed in it, and the county has a population of over 10 million. These numbers fluctuate and are probably underreported because not everyone is documented or staying. There are 100,000 tourists on any given day, more in the summer. And people are constantly abandoning the megalopolis for other states then coming back. "Going to California" is a popular song for the band Led Zeppelin, and one has to wonder why of all the places in the world (Kashmir, Ireland, Shangri-la, etc.) they chose the Golden State to sing about. It has to be because everyone wants go there. Everyone is going to California eventually, even if just to visit. In its strangeness, apart from its size (roughly parallel to Bangkok, Thailand, at about 50 miles across), it has islands. We have snowy peaks, thick forest cover, desert, (asphalt) jungle, municipal wastelands, oil rigs, caves, Beverly Hills, Hollywood, beaches, and islands. One of those islands is Catalina that got hit by:

Three earthquakes, including a magnitude 3.6, hit off the coast of SoCal
.
(KABC Los Angeles) A 3.6-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Southern California Sunday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The 3.6 quake struck around 5:32 pm and was centered about 27 miles from San Clemente Island and 29 miles from Avalon on Santa Catalina Island, Los Angeles County, the USGS said.

Two smaller quakes (pre-shocks) had hit the same region about an hour-and-a-half earlier. The first measured at 3.1 and hit around 4:11 pm, and another 2.5-magnitude quake struck a few minutes later.

There were no immediate reports of damage. Source: KABC

Emmys, Trump assassination 2nd attempt

Why does CIA keep trying to JFK me? - They hate you like most Americans. - Oh. F'em then.

Boo, you big target! - Quit spooking me, you old SOB! I'm still on edge from my ear piercing.
.
Our telescreen is dead, RIP
Imagine caring so little about a politician like Trump or the one-party system that both wings (blue and red) continue to support so that no other option or party ever exists that the only response to another Trump assassination attempt is met with a *yawn.*

OMG, the Emmys are going on right now in Hollywood, celebrating our beloved stars, doling out awards and honors, red carpet gawking, paparazzi, and celebrities galore! Shogun, Reservation Dogs, Bear are big winners? We killed our TV, so who know what's what? Netflix, binging, paid service providers, bundled plans, who needs it?
In California, it cooled down and got cloudy as if water droplets were about to form magically in the sky and fall on the cars. The sudden chill forebodes a change of season, heralding the equinox, harvest festivals, Halloween, Samhain, Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) akin to Buddhist Obon, and all things fall.
Another Trump assassination attempt: What just happened?
(TLDR Daily) Sept. 16, 2024: Welcome to the TLDR News Daily Briefing. In today’s episode, we run through yet another assassination attempt on Trump. Also, the first Houthi missile hit central Israel; DRC coup plotters are sentenced to death; and Storm "Boris" sweeps across central Europe. 💬 Twitter: tldrnewsuk.

Debate: Kamala WINS, grumpy Trump fails

I'm a lawyer, prosecutor, Top Cop, DA, AG, Senator, and he's a felon, a criminal, a con-man.
Rematch! I demand a rematch! She's the worst vice president ever and is worse than Biden!
.
That b***h didn't win. I lost. But she didn't win.
She was bright, professional, not angry, not nervous, not aggressive. It was clear she had studied, and it paid off. Trump was a grouchy old (adult diaper wearing) fart, unable to smile, as menacing as Dick Cheney used to be. Only even Dick can't stand Trump. Not only did super-Republican warmonger Cheney back Kamala, years ago he backed Hillary Clinton, too. He was no fan of Trump even then, just as his sensible daughter, Liz Cheney, appears to be. They know who the powers that be are. If anyone was swayed, it was swing voters in favor of Harris.
The Demiurge wants you to vote for this clown.
Sure, the diehard MAGAots and forever Trumpers will stick by their declining hero and God-given candidate. But the rest of us are done with the tired old lies, dog whistles, racial divisiveness, doublespeak, outrageousness, narcissism, opportunism, self-serving bias, and lies. Oh, the lies. What did Trump do to enemy Hillary? Nothing. He should have locked her up. He didn't. Now she has the chance to see this government bring down the weight of the law on him. Will it? It sure looks like it. Trump could be in jail before Thanksgiving, claiming to be innocent of everything, all his perfect phone calls, speeches, stealing documents, corruption, and Jan. 6th incitement, defaming his rape sexual assault victims, and hypocrisy. He has almost singlehandedly destroyed the GOP (Republican party), and good riddance.
