First Admiral Second Lady Usha Vance, backed up by Paratrooper VP JD V, sent in by Fearless Leader DJ Trump, have stormed the airstrip in Greenland, a scarcely populated portion of Denmark in an attempted takeover. PT JD seems to be trying to win hearts and minds before Commander in Chief Trump sends in boots on the ground to complete his international violation of a sovereign nation's rights. (He is currently funding Israel's illegal land grab in Palestine and trying to avert China's usurpation of Taiwan, while everything returns to normal in Pres. Putin's Russia after TV comedian Vlad Zelenski accepted bribe money to front a PR campaign with promises to join NATO and fend of its neighbor for European and American forces in a farce of a proxy war aimed at geopolitical chess more than any takeover, restoration of Czarist Russia, or threat to members of the EU.

Where's their babysitter, the television? How are they supposed to wean their kids without a TV?
It's almost certain Piaget, the famed developmental psychologist, would not approve. What if they grow up with a complex about reindeers or yellow snow or something? It's too risky. Bring them indoors and tie them to an apron string and yell at them until they're neurotic just like the parents.

Of course, maybe we in the West have far more to learn from them than they do from us, judging by outcomes and the lengths of our comparative child rearing traditions.
It's eerie and seemingly inexplicable the way people far afield can look so much alike in their traditions and style. In Buddhist Ladakh, in the Indian Himalayas next to Tibet, there are black and white photos of American Indians. Why they're there, no one can say. But looked at more closely -- beyond the long straight black hair, sun kissed skin, silver and turquoise jewelry, hairless faces, horses, colorful cotton cloth with geometric patterns and unique designs, one is startled to realize they are not Native Americans at all. They are traditional Tibetans (Ladakhis, too), who are cowboys sporting cowboy hats who roam with the buffalo (bison) on the Tibetan plateau.

To see photos of ultra-Scandinavian Sami, the original inhabitants of Norway, Sweden, Finland, and the Kola Peninsula of Russia (or Sapmi, Fenno-Scandinavia, a region formerly referred to as Lapland), one cannot help but be struck how they, too, look exactly like American Indians. They live in teepees, make colorful cotton clothes and wear animal skins, follow shamans, and require very close inspection to see the tiny differences that make all the difference to us as we try to distinguish one tribe of nomads from another. The way they all raise their children is very similar and very different from our modern ways.

(Danni in the Wild) Oct. 26, 2023: Join me, Danni in the Wild, for a late fall forage in a local woodland pasture. It is a beautiful day, and there are lots of wild edible berries, plants, and fungi to find -- some of the mushrooms being medicinal, too! Please see notes on species below before mushroom hunting.
Acorns (oak seeds) contain high amounts of tannins which can cause stomachaches, so they must first be prepared (soaked, washed, rewashed, and rinsed over and over) before consuming or ground into flour;
Rosehips (future rosebuds) contain itchy hairs that should be removed before consumption;
Golden spindles are nontoxic but not usually recommended for consumption due to their tough texture and bitter flavor;
Amanita muscaria (Fly agaric) contains psychoactiveibotenic acid and the hallucinogen muscimol, so failure to prepare it properly for its intended use may result in freaking out, vomiting, dizziness, vertigo, anxiety, and lots of other unpleasant feelings!
WARNING: Remember never to eat any wild food -- be it plant, fruit, or fungi -- unless you are 100% certain of its identity. Always cross check resources to be 200% sure. Always do research before taking herbs internally, especially if pregnant, have severe allergies, or have a weakened immune system.
PLEASE: Remember to take only what is needed from places of abundance (and never more than 10% of any plant) so as to always leave plenty for the other wildlife.

● Come take a walk with me (Joe Hattab) around Longyearbyen, the largest town on the Norwegian islands of Svalbard.
Parts of it look familiar, but make no mistake. This place is different.
At 78 degrees north, it lies just 800 miles (1,300 kilometers) from the North Pole. And with over 2,000 permanent inhabitants, it is the northernmost real town on Earth.
There are only 50 km of road, including the small streets between houses, so people mainly get around the island on snowmobile.
In fact, there are more registered snowmobiles than residents.
Anyone leaving town is required to travel with a gun and someone who knows how to use it because the islands are also home to polar bears.
The average daytime high is below freezing for all but four months of the year, and from the end of October to mid-February, the sun doesn’t rise at all. This is the long polar night.

Archeologists have uncovered evidence of a cave dwelling that was constructed around 16,800 years ago by prehistoric humans.
The dwelling was found in the La Garma cave complex in the autonomous community of Cantabria, northern Spain, the local government announced in a statement.
The new discovery is "one of the best preserved Paleolithic dwellings" in the world, according to the Government of Cantabria. The Paleolithic, also referred to as the Old Stone Age, is a period in human prehistory that extends from the earliest use of stone tools more than 3 million years ago to around 12,000 years ago.

La Garma is a "unique" archeological site that boasts an impressive collection of rock art and Paleolithic remains, including thousands of fossils, according to the World Monuments Fund.
The complex forms part of a world-renowned network of caves in northern Spain that are listed together as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

This listing includes the famous Cave of Altamira in Cantabria that features striking prehistoric cave art dating as far back as around 35,000 years ago.
To date, five levels of caves have been discovered at La Garma, which preserves evidence of human activity spanning over 300,000 years, right up until the Middle Ages.
The original entrance to the cave's Lower Gallery was blocked by a landslide around 16,000 years ago, preserving the ancient remains inside intact, turning it into a kind of prehistoric "time capsule," according to the local government.
The latest discovery at La Garma is the prehistoric dwelling from 16,800 years ago, which occupies an oval space of almost 54 square feet. The dwelling is delimited by an alignment of stone blocks and stalagmites that supported a structure of sticks and skins leaning against a ledge of the cave wall.

Spanish caves have served many good purposes
In the center of the dwelling, the researchers found evidence of a small bonfire, around which lie several remains left behind by the hunter-gatherers who lived there. These include antler and bone instruments, as well as evidence of fur working and stone tool production.
In total, the archeologists documented more than 4,600 objects during their investigations, primarily the bones of deer, horses, and bison, but also pieces of flint, needles, and a proto-harpoon, as well as shells of marine mollusks.
They also found decorated bones, among them, a spectacular pierced bone of an aurochs — an extinct giant cattle species — with an engraved representation of that animal, as well as several pendants that the residents of the dwelling may have worn. More + VIDEO
