Juneteenth is a federal holiday in the US celebrated annually on June 19th to commemorate the ending of legal slavery in the United States.
The holiday's name, first used in the 1890s, is a portmanteau of the words "June" and "nineteenth," referring to June 19, 1865, the day when Major General Granger ordered the final enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation in Texas at the end of the American Civil War [8, 9].
In the Civil War period, slavery was brought to an end in various areas of the United States of America at different times. Many enslaved Blacks in the South escaped, demanded wages, stopped work, or even took up arms against the Confederacy of slave states.

In January 1865, the U.S. Congress finally proposed the Thirteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution for the national abolition of slavery.
By June 1865, almost all enslaved persons had been freed by the victorious Union Army or by state abolition laws. When the national abolition amendment was ratified in December, the remaining enslaved people in Delaware and in Kentucky were freed.
Early Juneteenth celebrations date back to 1866, at first involving church-centered community gatherings in Texas. They spread across the South among newly freed African-Americans and their descendants and became more commercialized in the 1920s and 1930s, often centering on a food festival.
Participants in the Great Migration brought these celebrations to the rest of the country. During the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s, these celebrations were eclipsed by the nonviolent determination to achieve civil rights but grew in popularity again in the 1970s with a focus on African-American freedom and African-American arts.
Beginning with Texas by proclamation in 1938, and by legislation in 1979, every U.S. state and the District of Columbia has formally recognized the holiday in some way.
Juneteenth is also celebrated by the Mascogos, descendants of Black Seminoles who escaped from slavery in 1852 and settled in Coahuila, Mexico [10].

She posted her cheeky response on Instagram Reels, mouthing a viral sound that says, “I look pretty good for a dead b*tch.”
Vivian is Elon and Justine Wilson’s daughter [former son]. In Vivian Wilson’s March 20th Teen Vogue interview, she recalled coming out to her parents, revealing that her mom was very supportive but her dad didn’t take it as well.
“No, he was not as supportive as my mom,” she said. “First of all, I had not talked to him in months — in months — so I had to get f*cking parental consent to get testosterone blockers and [goddamned hormone replacement therapy].”

The president of the United States is aligning himself with the dictator of Russia, Vladimir Putin, instead of the dictator of Ukraine, our military ally, to undermine the independence of East Russia Ukraine and its democracy, which is a great democracy like our democracy, full of good elections and lots of diverse candidates and no corruption, functioning and full of free speech and no more Nazis in the Azov Brigade or war profiteers on the sidelines, other than some capitalists in the military-industrial complex, which benefit US companies instead of communist arms dealers like Iran and North Korea, funding Mr. Putin.

Where's their babysitter, the television? How are they supposed to wean their kids without a TV?
It's almost certain Piaget, the famed developmental psychologist, would not approve. What if they grow up with a complex about reindeers or yellow snow or something? It's too risky. Bring them indoors and tie them to an apron string and yell at them until they're neurotic just like the parents.

Of course, maybe we in the West have far more to learn from them than they do from us, judging by outcomes and the lengths of our comparative child rearing traditions.
It's eerie and seemingly inexplicable the way people far afield can look so much alike in their traditions and style. In Buddhist Ladakh, in the Indian Himalayas next to Tibet, there are black and white photos of American Indians. Why they're there, no one can say. But looked at more closely -- beyond the long straight black hair, sun kissed skin, silver and turquoise jewelry, hairless faces, horses, colorful cotton cloth with geometric patterns and unique designs, one is startled to realize they are not Native Americans at all. They are traditional Tibetans (Ladakhis, too), who are cowboys sporting cowboy hats who roam with the buffalo (bison) on the Tibetan plateau.

To see photos of ultra-Scandinavian Sami, the original inhabitants of Norway, Sweden, Finland, and the Kola Peninsula of Russia (or Sapmi, Fenno-Scandinavia, a region formerly referred to as Lapland), one cannot help but be struck how they, too, look exactly like American Indians. They live in teepees, make colorful cotton clothes and wear animal skins, follow shamans, and require very close inspection to see the tiny differences that make all the difference to us as we try to distinguish one tribe of nomads from another. The way they all raise their children is very similar and very different from our modern ways.
