UC Berkeley student Mario Savio (1942-1996) once gave a stirring speech on the steps of Sproul Hall (now the Mario Savio Steps). It was December 2, 1964, and riot police had surrounded the campus about to attack students like a battle right out of the US War on Vietnam (and Cambodia and Laos) but turned on American citizens. They used teargas dropped from choppers (probably military surplus) for the paramilitary Bay Area police forces congregating for this kinetic event (beat down and subsequent internment). The purpose of the CIA and Pentagon's wars is not only to dominate and rule the world. It is also to dominate the civilian population and turn it into a pro-military endless-war economy. LEEDS, United Kingdom – The normally peaceful Irish city of Galway, on the west coast of Ireland, has made the news.

This is due to the polemical decision of its city council to build a monument to Cuban freedom fighter Ernesto “Che” Guevara.

Could a Latinx hippie be a freedom fighter?

The decision has been based on the fact that Che, a descendant of the Lynch clan, was himself partly Irish, Cuban, and Argentinian.

This attempt to celebrate Guevara’s Irish heritage has been met with resistance in some conservative quarters within Ireland and subsequently in the United States.

First, Irish businessman and campaigner Declan Ganley suggested the monument would drive away tourism from Galway – an unlikely outcome, as it is well-known that Che Guevara’s image is found among the most popular merchandise in the world.

Then, Yale-based academic Carlos Eire and Republican Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lethinen added their voices to Ganley’s and requested that, since Guevara was a murderer and a war criminal, the Irish should scrap the project altogether and, in the words of the latter, build instead a monument to “the enslaved Cuban people.”

“Guevara was much more than a grotesque criminal, as it has been suggested.” One can only wonder, why this opposition all of a sudden? More importantly, do they have a point?

Malcolm X founded the Organization of Afro-American Unity to fight for the civil rights of Black Americans. He had the gift of articulating his messages in such a way that he could grab a crowd's attention from the first minute of the speech to the last.

In this speech from 1962, Malcolm X talks about Jesus. He tells how Jesus would be on the side of Black Americans if he were alive. Jesus always came to the defense of the most oppressed.

Malcolm X also talks about police brutality in the Black community in1962. This teaching covers an interesting subject that is the lesson about who taught us to hate ourselves? When we hate what is in ourselves, we will hate also what is in our brothers and sisters.

When we start loving ourselves, we will start loving our fellows. In this way Malcolm X teaches how it's possible to strengthen each member of the Black community and not let it be divided by anything.
