'Jackass: Best and Last' comedy film

It's plain stupid (only a lil funny)
REVIEW: We can't recommend this one. It's not as funny as previous installments, and it's almost certainly NOT the last Jackass film. They always say it will be their last, which helps sales. The problem here is not that there isn't nostalgia. It's that it's weak. It's not their best work. There is little set up to each scenario, and then it's over and on to the next thing. A previous sequel saw Knoxville dress like an old man with his scrotum hanging out unawares; he goes out and about, laughs ensue. Here, there is one call back to that, and that seems authentic and funny. If you like gay homoeroticism among professed heterosexual bros, you'll love this -- with all its fecal, anal, ball-busting torture. Did we mention feces? There's no shortage of that. And there's lots of full-frontal male nudity for the gents. Ladies, stay home. This is not representative of what most men are up to. This is for drug abusers, like Knoxville and Steve-O to make money milking cringe for what it might be worth. Rating: C or C-.

DON'T SAY WE DIDN'T WARN YOU.

Knoxville drug abuse explains a lot

Bhutan building Mindfulness City, eating

  • What is "mindfulness" (sati)?
Sati (Pali sati [1], Sanskrit स्मृति, smṛti), literally "memory" [2] or "retention" [3] [previously rendered "vigilance," "bare awareness," "wakefulness," "presence of mind," "presence," "to bear in mind"] is commonly translated as mindfulness, "to remember to observe" [4].

It is an essential part of Buddhist practice [occurring 14 times in the list of the 37 Requisites of Enlightenment].

It has the related meanings of calling to mind the wholesome Teachings (Dhamma) such as the Four Foundations of Mindfulness (Satipatthanas), the Five Faculties, the Five Powers, the Seven Factors of Enlightenment, the Noble Eightfold Path, and the attainment of insight [5].

What is there to mindfully eat?
(South China Morning Post) What people eat in Bhutan? Cheese

Moreover, it means observing and remaining aware of mental and physical phenomena (dhammas), which is the actual practice of maintaining lucid heightened-awareness of these dhammas [6].

The bodily and mental phenomena one practices to remain aware/mindful of are these processes/"things." This is done in order to counter the arising of unwholesome states, the removal of unwholesome states [7][8], to develop wholesome states, and to sustain wholesome states to attainment of insight (vipassana).

It is the first factor of the Seven Factors of Enlightenment. "Right" or "correct" mindfulness (Pali sammā-sati, Sanskrit samyak-smṛti) is the seventh factor (limb or element) of the Noble Eightfold Path.

Definition
The Buddhist term translated into English as "mindfulness," "to remember to observe" [4], "to remember to remain observant," originates in the Pali term sati and in its Sanskrit counterpart smṛti.

According to Robert Sharf, the meaning of these terms has been the topic of extensive debate and discussion [8].
  • Ven. Analayo strives for an academic definition from the ancient texts.
Smṛti originally meant "to remember," "to recollect," "to bear in mind," as in the Vedic tradition of remembering [memorizing slokas of] sacred texts.

The Pali term sati also means "to remember" the phenomena being observed in Sattipatthana, that is literally "the fourfold setting up of mindfulness," as well more generally remember the Teachings of Tipitaka ("Three Baskets" or collections of the) texts.

In the "Discourse on the Four Foundations of Mindfulness" (Satipațțhāna Sutta), the term sati means "to maintain awareness of reality," where sense-perceptions are understood to be illusory and misleading so that the true nature of phenomena can be directly seen [8] and penetrated.
  • [What is their true nature? It is tilakkhana, marked by the Three Universal Characteristics of Existence, which are impermanent, disappointing, and impersonal, a lakkhana being a "mark" or "characteristic" of all phenomena, all dhammas, all "things."]
Sharf refers to the Questions of King Milinda (Milindapanha), King Menander I, which explains that the arising of sati calls to mind the wholesome phenomena (dhammas) such as the Four Foundations of Mindfulness...and the attainment of insight [5]. More

Happiest Place on Earth: Buddhist Bhutan

(60 Minutes Australia) Is Bhutan the Happiest Place on Earth?
Buddhism in Bhutan

Guru Rimpoche Padmasambhava
(World Travel Guides) A French man journeys to Bhutan to become a Buddhist monk. Buddhism in Bhutan. Vajrayana Buddhism is the most widely practiced religion in Bhutan. It is the state religion of Bhutan, and Buddhists comprise 75% (with Hinduism at 23%) of the population. Although the Buddhism practiced in Bhutan originated in Tibet, it differs significantly in its rituals, liturgy, and monastic organization.

What lifestyle leads to longevity?
The state religion has long been supported financially by the government through annual subsidies to Buddhist monasteries, shrines, monks, and nuns.

In the modern era, support for the state religion during the reign of Jigme Dorji Wangchuck includes the manufacture of 10,000 gilded bronze images of the Buddha, publication of elegant calligraphic editions of the 108-volume Kangyur (Collection of the Words of the Buddha) and 225-volume Tengyur (Collection of Commentaries), and the construction of numerous chorten (stupas) throughout the country. Guaranteed representation in the National Assembly and the Royal Advisory Council, Buddhists constitute the majority of society and are assured an influential voice in public policy.  🔔 @travel-guide

Finland happiest in world for 8th year

Finland again ranked happiest country in the world as sad USA falls to its lowest-ever position

Are the indigenous Sami of Sápmi happy?
Finland
is a county. It's no Buddhist Bhutan, the last Himalayan kingdom in the world, with its "Gross Domestic Happiness" rating being of central concern. Yet it manages to be happy. It's close to Sweden, not far from Norway. It is Scandinavian. And cold. There is no reason to be happy there, unless one is just traveling. Try Monty Python Travel Agents to arrange a tour.

World Happiness Report 2024

Why are you happy? - Well, I'm a Buddhist nun, and the Dharma and Sangha are so beautiful.

Buddha, why are you always smiling?
In this issue of the World Happiness Report we focus on the happiness of people at different stages of life.

In the "Seven Ages of Man" (listed below) in Shakespeare’s hypnotic As You Like It, the later stages of life are portrayed as deeply depressing.

But happiness research shows a more nuanced picture, one that is changing over time.

Explore the 2024 report for the latest findings on the happiness of the world’s young, old – and everyone in between.

Shakespeare: All the world's a stage
The Seven Ages by William Shakespeare (Kanish Mahajan/slideshare.net)
.
Act II, Scene VII, Line 139 features one of [Edward De Vere's aka] Shakespeare's most famous monologues, spoken by the character Jaques, which begins:

And all the men and women merely players;
They have their exits and their entrances,
And one man in his time plays many parts"

The central metaphor, stated in vivid verbal sketches, is that a human lifespan is a play in seven acts. These seven "acts," or "ages," are:

At first, [1] the infant,
Mewling and puking in the nurse's arms.
Then [2] the whining schoolboy, with his satchel
And shining morning face, creeping like snail
Unwillingly to school. And then [3] the lover,
Sighing like furnace, with a woeful ballad
Made to his mistress' eyebrow. Then [4] a soldier,
Full of strange oaths and bearded like the pard,
Jealous in honor, sudden and quick in quarrel,
Seeking the bubble reputation
Even in the cannon's mouth. And then [5] the justice,
In fair round belly with good capon lined,
With eyes severe and beard of formal cut,
Full of wise saws and modern instances;
And so he plays his part. The sixth age shifts
Into [6] the lean and slippered pantaloon,
With spectacles on nose and pouch on side;
His youthful hose, well saved, a world too wide
For his shrunk shank, and his big manly voice,
Turning again toward childish treble, pipes
And whistles in his sound. Last scene of all,
That ends this strange eventful history,
Is [7] second childishness and mere oblivion,
Sans teeth, sans eyes, sans taste, sans everything."

US Latino GDP up, National Heritage Month

Marien Lopez-Medina (Bloomberg/MSN, 9/27); Crystal Q., CC Liu (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly
Hey, Bestie, you know what HP stands for? - His Panic? - No, Hewlett-Packard. - Oh yeah!
.
We're a very diverse group in the US.
The contribution of Latinos (Latinx, who are not Hispanic, from Spain, but from the Americas) to the US economy rose to $3.2 trillion in 2021.

This would rank fifth in the world if the group were an independent country, putting it just behind Germany (Europe's post-Hitler powerhouse) but ahead of the UK (with the most influential centralized banking system) and India (the world's largest country by population), according to a report out today (Wednesday, 9/27/23).
I'm proud that we're so rich (Sofia Vergara).
US Latinos, who have a high workforce participation, population growth, and increased productivity compared to other cohorts, also saw incomes rise.

During 2011-2021, the group’s income increase at an annualized rate of 4.7% compared to 1.9% for non-Latinos, according to the 2023 Latino GDP Report, which measures the cohort’s economic output in the country.

We're making progress in El Norte (Frida Kahlo).
Across the US, Latinos contributed 20.9% of real GDP growth during that decade, Arizona State University researchers said in the report, which was produced by the nonprofit Latino Donor Collaborative in partnership with Wells Fargo & Co.

Latinos made significant contributions to states like California, Texas, and New York, but among smaller states, the report’s authors observed “a silent revolution taking place.”

In the decade ending in 2021, South Dakota, North Dakota, and New Hampshire each saw Latino gross domestic income grow at a real, annual rate of at least 10%.

This data should inform the wider conversation about immigration in the US, Sol Trujillo, LDC co-founder and chair, said in an interview. More

Gender as ideology (Dr. Miriam Grossman)

s an ideology not based on sound science. There's an agenda. It is being imposed on us. And it is
Dr. Miriam Grossman, MD, has strong opinions about the new wave of gender a neither healthy for the individuals involved or society as a whole. Western civilization is so influential that many non-Western countries are jumping on board, motivated by staying on the right side of NATO and American hegemony.

Trans Jeffree sets the world straight about "they/them"

Jordan Peterson talks to Joe Rogan about this whole "movement" to transition people who are gender dysphoric rather than looking at the underlying discontent with how they were (re)born. Is being female gender better for a male or vice versa? Both genders have their pitfalls and delights, and rebirth gives us both. Hey, Kids, want to be more popular? Say you're trans! Be trans! Transition and that'll solve all your problems, we promise (says the institutional medical types who pathologize everything they can sell a "treatment" for but never a "cure").

Surprising age when Americans are happiest

MSN.com; Ashley Wells (ed.), Wisdom Quarterly

We're extended family living together.
When are we happiest in life? We all have our ideas. What does social science in a survey say?

Perhaps it is during the full bloom of our youth or when we are raising our children, or at the full moon or when we suddenly get rich, famous, influential, powerful, or fall in love. Maybe it's when we finally give it all up, stop being self-interested, internally renounce, and set off to awaken and become enlightened and liberated.
Or maybe happiness comes at last in our golden years. Recently, AARP teamed up with National Geographic Partners and asked more than 2,500 adults to put themselves in one of two camps, very happy or not too happy.

It then divided the respondents into age groups to determine the time of life when people are most likely to be happy. The following is what they discovered about each age group. It’s not the usual blah, blah, blah. More

Beyond bounds: deleted scenes (cartoon)

Seth MacFarlane (Family Guy); DP; SR; Seth Auberon, Ashley Wells (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly

25 Family Guy deleted scenes that were too much for TV
(Screen Rant) Family Guy is one of the edgiest shows on American television, but these deleted scenes step over the line!

Family Guy is one of those shows that has never been afraid to push some buttons and get a reaction from critics and fans. That’s why we love it. They'll say just about anything about anyone and make no apologies. But sometimes certain things prove just too much for the network to handle. There are a tons of jokes that never make it to air.

Peter is a d*ck, and his chin is a pair of... Whether it’s Peter's offensive tattoo, a super graphic hallucination of Peter’s butt turning into a fly trying to eat Quagmire, Peter being present as Roe's date at the Roe v Wade Supreme Court abortion case, or Peter and Cleveland doing drugs (ten rounds of chemo) to outdo each other's recreational consumption.

The Buddha makes an appearance in the Bed, Bath, and BEYOND store.

There was also a scene of Meg being shot in the head at the dinner table, a joke about cold Asian in-laws, Peter trying to find out if Jillian is Jewish, Dr. Hartmann eating Lois’ tumor, Peter commenting on the race of Brian’s new bi-racial girlfriend, a leper colony doing the hokey-pokey, or Quagmire making a very weird sexual comment about when his daughter will turn 21.

Hey, funny show, Seth. See you in the afterlife!
It doesn’t stop there, as one scene with Jesus Christ trying to pick up a girl, a political joke about the slave conditions in China where iPads are made, a cutaway during the already controversial stroke episode, a scene about a White missionary evangelizing a new tribe which is likely to offend Christians, a bit where Joe runs over a squirrel with his wheelchair, and of course, about a million jokes about Jewish character Mort which never made it to air.

All those and more remind us just why Family Guy is still one of the edgiest shows on TV.
