Sati (Pali sati [1], Sanskrit स्मृति, smṛti), literally "memory" [2] or "retention" [3] [previously rendered "vigilance," "bare awareness," "wakefulness," "presence of mind," "presence," "to bear in mind"] is commonly translated as mindfulness, "to remember to observe" [4].
It is an essential part of Buddhist practice [occurring 14 times in the list of the 37 Requisites of Enlightenment].
It has the related meanings of calling to mind the wholesome Teachings (Dhamma) such as the Four Foundations of Mindfulness (Satipatthanas), the Five Faculties, the Five Powers, the Seven Factors of Enlightenment, the Noble Eightfold Path, and the attainment of insight [5].
Moreover, it means observing and remaining aware of mental and physical phenomena (dhammas), which is the actual practice of maintaining lucid heightened-awareness of these dhammas [6].
The bodily and mental phenomena one practices to remain aware/mindful of are these processes/"things." This is done in order to counter the arising of unwholesome states, the removal of unwholesome states [7][8], to develop wholesome states, and to sustain wholesome states to attainment of insight (vipassana).
It is the first factor of the Seven Factors of Enlightenment. "Right" or "correct" mindfulness (Pali sammā-sati, Sanskrit samyak-smṛti) is the seventh factor (limb or element) of the Noble Eightfold Path.
Definition
The Buddhist term translated into English as "mindfulness," "to remember to observe" [4], "to remember to remain observant," originates in the Pali term sati and in its Sanskrit counterpart smṛti.
According to Robert Sharf, the meaning of these terms has been the topic of extensive debate and discussion [8].
Ven. Analayo strives for an academic definition from the ancient texts.
Smṛti originally meant "to remember," "to recollect," "to bear in mind," as in the Vedic tradition of remembering [memorizing slokas of] sacred texts.
The Pali term sati also means "to remember" the phenomena being observed in Sattipatthana, that is literally "the fourfold setting up of mindfulness," as well more generally remember the Teachings of Tipitaka ("Three Baskets" or collections of the) texts.
In the "Discourse on the Four Foundations of Mindfulness" (Satipațțhāna Sutta), the term sati means "to maintain awareness of reality," where sense-perceptions are understood to be illusory and misleading so that the true nature of phenomena can be directly seen [8] and penetrated.
[What is their true nature? It is tilakkhana, marked by the Three Universal Characteristics of Existence, which are impermanent, disappointing, and impersonal, a lakkhana being a "mark" or "characteristic" of all phenomena, all dhammas, all "things."]
Sharf refers to the Questions of King Milinda (Milindapanha), King Menander I, which explains that the arising of sati calls to mind the wholesome phenomena (dhammas) such as the Four Foundations of Mindfulness...and the attainment of insight [5]. More

(Good Morning America) Feb. 7, 2025: Lifestyle contributor Lori Bergamotto shares top pizza recommendations for Super Bowl Taylor Swift Viewing party and National Pizza Day this Sunday. GET PIZZA FIX HERE: tinyurl.com/bdhzaw3u
Pizza is an American invention
Gluten-free vegan deep dish?
They don't eat pizza in Italy. They don't even know what it is. Italia eatta panini, a kind of fluffy bread with just a few garnishes for flavor. It took an American to make a pie. Living on the West Coast, which may arguably be the best coast, we are all about a thick crust, preferably gluten-free.
The East Coast, in New York style, a flour tortilla is used, the thinner the better. (How does that make any sense?) Living outdoors in giant in backyards, the west and Southwest can have their own pizza ovens year around, except for the two weeks when it rains.
Vegan nut cheese drizzling, Beyond meat toppings, and lots of fresh green basil, thin heirloom tomato slices, herbs, and no pineapple (we repeat, no pineapple, this is not Hawaii), with savory spices, maybe even some shitake mushrooms... There's no end to what the imagination can create on Pizza Day.
Oddly, this year falls on 4/20, and Pizza Day falls on Super Bowl Sunday -- traditionally known as the day more avocados are consumed than any other (except maybe Cinco de Mayo) due to the dips, chips, and sandwiches. It's almost as if someone, some deva up there, knows what's going on down here.
A: Gluten is found in wheat, barley, rye, oats, and buckwheat (not a grain or grass but full of a gluten to protect itself), a plant toxin appearing in different forms with different names but doing the same thing to our intestines -- stripping the cilia and leading us to have digestion and malabsorption issues. ALL oats (even the ones labelled "gluten free") are the worst because they are full of avenin (oat gluten); the label is accurate because the wheat version (from cross-contamination) is called gluten, not the oat version.
Our intestines should look like a shag rug on the inside, not a smooth water hose. But as colorectal exams show, we are no longer equipped to absorb nutrients. All humans are harmed by any amount of gluten (gliaden, avenin, etc.), but we're used to it.
Monsanto (Bayer Inc.) and others have manufactured new higher-gluten forms of grains. That makes food production more convenient, addictive, and harmful. We all want spongy, chewy, moist breadlike products, full of protein (the cause of gluten's harm) and lots of starch, which is quickly converted into sugar by the body.
Dr. Joel Wallach (criticalhealthnews.com) states that nothing is more widespread and harmful than the glutens (a plant lectin), killing countless people every year but doing so slowly by malabsorption, malnutrition, and the inability to replenish the micronutrients needed for vibrant living. Deficiencies caused by eating glutens cause many diseases, and supplementing won't help if we are still being exposed to gluten (hidden everywhere or in obvious sources) because our cilia has not been allowed to grow back. Macronutrients like calories come in, but not the trace minerals and vitamins from healthy foods and supplements. The soil is depleted, so even the best most varied (organic, seasonal, local, fresh, healthy) diet will not help restore the 65 to 90 vital nutrients we need if gluten is still in our diet.
The northern European wasteland (Lapland) of Scandinavia, the least desirable piece of Europe, was originally populated by Germans (a.k.a. the native Samis), who as Vikings ("Pirates") did what they could with it until they reached maximum success by domesticating cows and killing fish? So they left to trade, raid, and invade others to prosper. Hearing their sagas say they were originally from Kerman, Iran, they traveled the Volga River, visited, and found an advanced Persian/Arabian culture they wanted to imitate? These were the "Aryans" (Iranians) the Germans thought they should be or were meant to be or originally were? So they returned and made Scandinavia and the best place to live and nearby Germany (Kermany) the Aryan (Iranian) capital (because the Nazis found this story appealing)?
The City of Kerman (which gives us the word "German") was founded as a defensive outpost, with the name Veh-Ardashir, by Ardashir I, founder of the Sasanian Empire, in the 3rd century AD [8].
After the Battle of Nahāvand in 642, the city came under Muslim rule. At first, the city's relative isolation allowed Kharijites and Zoroastrians to thrive there, but the Kharijites were wiped out in 698, and the population was mostly Muslim by 725.
Already in the eighth century the city was famous for its manufacture of cashmere wool shawls and other textiles. The Abbasid Caliphate's authority over the region was weak, and power passed in the tenth century to the Buyid emirs.
We've come to kill and rape this this culture, but don't
call us "invaders" because no one is "native" anywhere
The region and city fell to Mahmud of Ghazni in the late tenth century. The name Kerman was adopted at some point in the tenth century [9].
Under the rule of the Seljuk Turks in the 11th and 12th centuries, Kerman remained virtually independent, conquering Oman and Fars [10].
When Marco Polo visited Kerman in 1271, it had become a major trade emporium linking the Persian Gulf with Khorasan and Central Asia [11].
Subsequently, however, the city was sacked many times by various invaders. Kerman expanded rapidly during the Safavid dynasty. Carpets and rugs were exported to England and Germany [Anglo-Saxons loved rugs?] during this period [12]. More
It was incredible. The food was delicious. The attendees were kind. And the documentary was mind blowing. Highly recommended. The movie reveals the massive hidden industry of killing cows for flesh in Hindu India -- through corruption, bribes, deception, the slaughter of water buffaloes and, worst of all, the consumption of dairy. It is raising cows for milk and cheese that ends up leading to their slaughter for various reasons: when they get older and dry, when they are sick, when they are male and useless to milk producers, when they get injured, when it costs too much to feed them, when they are kidnapped from shelters to be slaughtered on the illegal market. Milk and meat are unhealthy, but people believe them to be "pure" or religious, and so it is consumed on a massive scale. But people are kept in the dark about what is going on. They see no reason to change their diets because they have been sold a set of lies that holds the system together.

We sing it to ourselves sometimes. It's great to be brown, to be somewhere in between Black and white, darker than yellow, lighter than red. It feels like being green. But what a diverse raza or race, very beautiful and inclusive of all others. Eva Longoria's on the team, and here she comes with her directorial debut about an urban legend of who really invented Flamin' Hot Cheetos. Was it Richard Montañez? At least one Frito-Lay Corporate employee says no way. It was her.
Actor Eva Longoria is beautiful, right? Who knew she could direct movies, much less socially relevant ones? If Benny Affleck and Matty Damon can cash in on Michael Jordan's fame, why not Longoria? Who knew an hermano (Richard Montonez) created the horrible for our health but tasty has heck chip Flamin' Hot Cheetos? These Black kids once made a great rap video about it:

One Burger King Triple Whopper has 49 grams of dead animal protein, which is the maximum recommended daily total for a 130-pound adult (Joe Raedle/Getty Images).
Big Macs are made of cancer-causing flesh.
Middle-aged people with diets high in animal flesh protein -- such as
meat, poultry, eggs, milk, and cheese -- face a dramatically increased risk
of dying from cancer compared with those who eat low animal protein
diets, according to a University of Southern California study published today in the journal Cell Metabolism.
If only cows lived on a compassionate planet
The study found 50 to 65-year-olds who consumed a "high-protein" diet --
meaning they got 20 percent or more of their calories from animal
sources of protein -- were four times more likely to die from cancer, compared with
those who consumed less than 10 percent of their daily calories in
animal protein.
A press release accompanying the study called that "a
mortality risk factor comparable to smoking." The risk of early death from all causes soared by 74 percent among the high-protein consumers, researchers found.
But the picture changes for those over 65. For them, it appears that a
moderate-to-high protein diet [not necessarily from animal sources] actually reduces cancer and overall
mortality and is helpful in preventing age-dependent weight loss and
malnourishment.
Researchers focused their study on a national cross-section of 6,381 people 50 and older who were tracked for nearly 20 years.
They also found that among all the age groups studied, a diet high in
animal protein increases insulin production and the risk of dying from
diabetes-related causes.
The higher risk of cancer and overall death among the middle-aged and
the increase in diabetes deaths were "either abolished or attenuated if
the proteins were plant derived," the study said.
Go veg for bliss (WQ/Larson)
Various health agencies recommend
that daily intake of animal protein should be about 0.8 grams per
kilogram. So a 130-pound adult should eat [no more than] between 45 and 50 grams of
animal protein per day. A 160-pound adult should eat between 60 and 65
grams per day.
How much protein is that? It sounds like a lot. Here is some help in calculating:
