$5 RAVE: Pasadena Summer Solstice (6/20)

Does Pasadena know how to throw a rave? It did in Project X "Pursuit of Happiness" (music video)
.
On the Summer Solstice of Saturday, June 20, 2026, from 7:00 to 10:00 pm the LAist is holding a rave at Remainders Creative Reuse. Total price of entry? $5.00 (five USD and 49 cent service fee).

Break out the rave gear and join Remainders Creative Reuse and LAist.com for a night of wild dancing, crafting, and community.

It's on Washington Bl. west of Lake Ave.
DJ Tekfor will be on hand all night bumping the 90’s rave jams and all the other hits. And there will be not one, not two, but three crafting stations with instructors:
  1. Make Your Own Junk Journal with Sarena
  2. Circle Weaving with Courtney
  3. Paper Mâché Sculptures with Aspen

What must non-Southern Californians imagine?
Already have a project in progress? Bring it along! Or if still looking for a spark, we’ll have a pop-up crafting table ready for everyone.

Whether a raver knits, collages, beads, sketches, or basketweaves, this is the perfect excuse to make something while soaking up the ravey 90’s vibes! Come as you are. (Bonus points will be awarded for 1990s-inspired outfits).
So get ready for a night of dancing, crafting, and fun. All ages. Families welcome. BYON (bring your own Narcan lol).
Trip hop is still a rave fave

COMMENTS
  • Can I sew my own outfit for EDC '27?
Is this serious?!?! How...for only FIVE bucks?!
  • It worked! It's SOLD OUT! You snooze, you lose.
  • We wouldn't put anything past Larry Mantle or Pasadena's KPCC 89.3 FM and its long-running battle to seem more relevant than Madeleine Brand and Santa Monica's KCRW 88.9 FM.
  • C'mon, everyone knows Larry is a [bleep]!
  • That doesn't mean he doesn't put on a good show, what he claims is "the largest conversation in Los Angeles." Maybe NPR reporter Josie Huang wants to outdo science journalist... [Science bowl: Can NoHo… | KCRW]
  • Who, Doualy Xaykaothao of NPR via KUNC?
  • No, remember there was that Asian science journalist at KPCC and like the LA and Pasadena Weekly? She used to go to all sorts of parties, festivals, events, write about it, be on the radio all the time. Then KPCC booted her, KCRW picked her up? She lived in a small house in NoHo, the value of which kept going up, trapping her in LA.
  • You mean Cary Harrison? He's over at KPFK (90.7 FM) on Friday morning, unless you mean Emily Kwong or these folks Honor Roll: Asian American Journalists AssociationLMU?
  • Oh, you must mean radio turned sex star Sandra Tsing Loh!

Rolling Loud festival and #IDIOCRACY

Rolling Loud is an international hip hop music festival that has been held in North America, Asia, South America, Europe, and Australia.

Established in 2015, it is "one of the biggest festivals in the world" according to Complex, while Billboard called it "the be-all of hip-hop festivals" [2, 3].

In 2019, an estimated 210,000 people attended the event in Miami [4].

HISTORY

The festival was founded in 2015 by Matt Zingler and Tariq Cherif, who met in elementary school in Hollywood, Florida [2, 5].

Once in high school, the pair began organizing and promoting parties which "leaned heavily on a mix of Southern and Midwestern rap" [2]. They moved on to professional live music events in 2010, beginning with an after-party headlined by Rick Ross [2].

By the summer of 2013, they were hosting monthly events in Miami featuring up-and-coming artists like Travis Scott and Kendrick Lamar [6].

The pair also promoted artists from Florida's burgeoning SoundCloud rap scene under the brand name Dope Entertainment before noticing the need for a genre-specific music festival [7, 8].

The first Rolling Loud took place in Miami in February 2015 and featured artists such as... More

Benefits of music obsession: science

(Vandals) One of the best songs to come out of Los Angeles' hardcore punk scene was "Urban Struggle" (aka "I Want to Be a Cowboy"). Why? It's funny.

Real RoboCop prototype enters the Hood

(ImDavisss) I took my new, fully automated robot pal into the Hood of Los Angeles: Venice Beach

We'll never have RoboCops.
ACLU would never allow it.
There were once Slave Patrols in these United States of America, formed by white men to gather up escaped slaves and any free Blacks who could be accused of being escaped slaves, dragged in for a bounty, and sold to the highest bidder. It was a wonderful time for the Deep South and the Confederacy. Modern slavery dictates that the only enslaved Blacks today be prisoners and parolees in the Prison-Industrial Complex. Could "RoboCop" prototypes such as this one be utilized in hunting down parolees, accused perpetrators, criminals, and any Black person late to work? The mind boggles. But Larry Ellison, David Ellison, Elon Musk, Peter Thiel, Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, and other tech billionaires probably have a strong opinion on the matter.

Lollapalooza 2025: Korn, Olivia, Sabrina

Perry Farrell, man (multi-millionaire) of peace
The great Dave Navarro guitar god stays cool.

Coachella has come and gone. Aftershock is still a ways away. Warped Tour has just swept through town, pulling in big crowds, standing room only. The World Surfing League (WSL) is chugging along in Surf City, USA (Huntington Beach, Orange County). So Fairy Peril's brainchild is hogging all the limelight. Who? Pariss Fariss? The guy who tried to beat up Dave Navarro and ruined the chances of a comeback for the band. Lollapalooza has begun, and Friday night's lineup is something: Is there a crossover in the fanbases of old Korn and new Olivia Rodrigo? (Is she a stripper, or does she just dance that way?) Does Sabrina Carpenter rap to rival and potentially outshine A$AP Rocky? There are 170 acts on nine stages over four days. CBS News Chicago

Lifestyle of Zack de la Rocha: RATM

Rage Against the Machine (RATM) is, or was, a band. And Afro-Latin singer and sincere vegetarian activist Zack de la Rocha may have been the main reason for their success. Morello fans may disagree.

Cali Vibes Music Fest in the LBC (6/8)

WHAT HAPPENED?
T*ts McGee (Erin Micklow) was on the scene, reporting on and showing what is was like in a very fake influencer sort of way so that everyone could needlessly eat their hearts out. Now that she's been banned from Punk Rock Bowling and lost her business, let her hair down and been shunned by the scene, what can she do but conspicuous consumption and more TikTok videos? On the bright side she's vegan and she does yoga.

Long Beach Marina, Shoreline Dr.
Cali Vibes (calivibesfest.com) is a two-day music festival that takes place at Marina Green Park in Long Beach, Los Angeles County, California. The seaside venue opens at 12:00 pm (noon) on both days. All ages are welcome, but 21+ for the Beach Club. Children 5 and under are FREE (when accompanied by a ticketed adult and excludes the Beach Club, which is strictly 21+). Show takes place rain or shine. Lineup, set times, festival hours, and venue are all subject to change [because of anicca].*

Group meditation to put out Cali vibes

Where is the Marina in the LBC?
We're taking over this bitch BEACH by arranging ourselves all around, in the sand and on the green, in serene Buddhist meditation until reggae rappers and on the stage make us get up and shake our assumptions from our heads, like the one that says "meditation" is just for caves, closets, and church basements.

There is a way of being in life -- off the mat and into the world.

The top of the mountain is a great place, but it's not the only place. One comes down and shares what was gained -- insight, loving kindness, compassion, joy-in-others'-joy, equanimity (unbiased looking on) -- for the benefit of all humanity (our fellow humans who have not yet attained) and divinity (the devas all around us).
Live Mass Meditation
Pull that prana, and follow the breath to bliss
.
Come meditate with us in the Vibe Zone
Since sitting zazen is strenuous on the bum, we may have group yoga and yogic massage available, if people are not too distracted from putting CBD in their pipes and who knows what else.

Our goal is to get Cypress Hill to join us next to The Vibes Stage at 3:00 pm before they go on at 4:00 pm, which is when we join them so we can rap-rock out to "Ain't Going Out Like That" (from Black Sunday).

Aww, yeah, Man, this is the party to go to
Why these four meditative practices? These are called the "Divine Abidings" in Buddhism or Brahma Viharas ("Supreme Abodes"). Why at a rap, rock, reggae show at the beach? Why not? Where better to get "high" (elevated, ecstatic, enlightened) than among spiritually-minded Angelenos and friends of all races and walks of life? Will everyone come to an ashram or temple, or does the spirit house need to come to them sometimes? [Send complaints marked care of Ashley Wells in comments section.]

Ludacris better not play this X-rated song!
*No ins/outs with the exception of Beach Club pass holders and Hotel and Passes Package holders. There is no festival parking on site, except for the Beach Club [so what, are y'all gonna pay extra for the Beach Club, or what?] and limited parking in accessibility/ADA.
