Cavemen shamans got high all day? (sutra)

When did humans start smoking cannabis?

Ink Explainer(Ink Explainer) June 4, 2026: When did early humans start smoking weed (THC/CBD)? The answer goes back way further than most of us would expect. Our relationship with cannabis did not begin in a college dorm or a back alley. — Rather, it started over 12,000 years ago, when some of the first farmers in East Asia looked at a very useful wild plant and thought, "Let's grow this."

This video traces the full history of cannabis — from a 2,700-year-old shaman's tomb in western China to the smoke-filled burial caves of the Pamir Mountains, the golden cups of Scythian warriors, the sacred altars of ancient Judah, the bhang rituals of India, a Chinese physician's lost anesthesia formula, a Congolese tribe that traded war for hemp, and the American political machine that turned a 12,000-year-old plant into one of the most dangerous [Schedule 1] substances on Earth.

By the end, viewers might start seeing this plant a little differently. All factual research sources are linked below.

Criminalized cannabis through racist propaganda, fabricated evidence (the Gore Files), and targeted Black musicians including Billie Holiday. ▸ Billie Holiday — legendary jazz singer targeted by Anslinger, not for drug use but for performing "Strange Fruit," a protest song about American lynchings. ▸ John Ehrlichman — Pres. Nixon's domestic policy advisor, who in a 2016-published interview admitted the War on Drugs was designed to target anti-war protesters and Black communities. ▸ Francis Young — DEA administrative law judge who, after two years of reviewing evidence in 1988, concluded that cannabis should not be classified as a Schedule 1 drug alongside heroin. The DEA rejected and ignored his recommendation.

Shamans: communication from spirit world
(Eden Foundation) Psychedelics (Entheogens) as Medicine 2025: Voices of Ancestors with Snow Raven

Ancient cavemen and cannabis smoking
(MACK) High all day? When did ancient human (cavemen) start smoking cannabis?

Doctor Feelgood? Cannabis, MD

"The Cave of the Body" (Guhatthaka Sutta)
Clinging to this cave heavily defiled [1]
one is stuck, bewildered, far from seclusion
from craving for the sensual pleasures [2]
of the world, which are hard to let go.

Those chained to craving
bound by the allure of becoming
find no release
for there is no liberation by others.

Intent, before and behind [3], on thirst
for sensual pleasure here or before —
full of lust for sensual pleasures,
busy, deluded, greedy, entrenched

in the wobbling way [4] they —
impelled into pain — lament:
"What will we be
when we pass away from here?"

So one ought to train here and now.
Whatever one knows as wobbling
in the world, do not, for its sake, behave,
for such life, the enlightened say, is short.

I see them in the world
floundering
men immersed in craving
for new states of becoming.

Base people moan in the mouth of death, their craving
for states of eternal becoming and annihilation [5] unallayed.
See them floundering in their sense of mine like fish in the
puddles of a dried-up stream — and, seeing this,

live with no sense of mine, not forming
attachments to states of becoming.
Subdue craving for both sides [6],
comprehending [7] sensory contact free of greed.

Doing nothing for which one would oneself
rebuke oneself, for the enlightened person
adheres not to what is seen, to what's heard.
Comprehending perception, one crosses over the flood —

the sage unstuck from possessions.
One, with arrow removed, lives heedful,
longing for neither
this world nor the next.

ENDNOTES
  1. Nd.I: Covered with defilements and unskillful mental states, characteristics, qualities.
  2. "Sensual craving" and "sensual pleasures" are two possible translations of kama ("sensuality"). According to Nd.I, both meanings are intended here.
  3. Nd.I: "Before" ("in front") means experienced in the past; "behind" means to-be-experienced in the future.
  4. Nd.I: "Wobbling way" means the karma of the Ten Courses of Unwholesome Action. (See AN 10.176).
  5. States of not-becoming = "oblivion." These are states of becoming that people can get themselves into through a desire or craving for annihilation, either after death or as a misguided goal of their spiritual striving. (See Iti 49, ucchedavada, annihilationism). As with all states of becoming, these states are impermanent (transient) and disappointing (painful).
  6. According to Nd.I, "both sides" has here several possible meanings: sensory contact and the origination of sensory contact; past and future; name-and-form; internal and external sense media; self-identity (view) and the origination of self-identity. It might also mean the states of becoming and not-becoming (eternalism and annihilationism) mentioned in the previous verse and below, in Sn 4.5.
  7. Nd.I: Comprehending sensory contact has three aspects: (1) being able to identify and distinguish types of sensory contact; (2) contemplating the true nature of sensory contact (e.g., impermanent/inconstant, disappointing/unable to fulfill, and impersonal/not-self); and (3) abandoning attachment to sensory contact. The same three aspects apply to comprehending perception, as mentioned in the following verse.

Levels of reality and real-life levitation

Real magic is really possible? - Yes.
In Dharmic (Indian) religions, the siddhis (Sanskrit सिद्धि siddhi, fulfillment, accomplishment) are material, paranormal, supernatural, magical powers, abilities, and attainments, such as levitation (paranormal).

They are the products (sometimes byproducts) of yogic advancement through daily practices (sādhanās) such as meditation (jhana, dhyana) and eight-limbed yoga [1].

The Pali term iddhi ("psychic powers," ṛddhi) is often used interchangeably in Buddhism.

Etymology
Illusion in Prague using steel armature
Siddhi is a Sanskrit noun that can be translated as super "knowledge," "accomplishment," "attainment," or "success" [2].

Method
Buddhism's Path of Purification (Visuddhi-magga) is one of the great commentarial texts to give explicit details about how meditators and spiritual masters can actually manifest supernormal abilities [3].
  • [These powers are not really "supernatural" because, however uncommon, they are our natural potential.]
It states that abilities such as levitation (flying through the air), walking through walls (solid obstructions), diving into the ground as if it were water, walking on water as if it were land, and so forth are achieved through changing one element, such as the earth element (Pali pathavi), into another element, such as air (vayu) [3].
  • [This is done at will because one has mastered the absorptions (jhanas) via that element. How this is done is explained in practice by Buddhist teachers and meditation masters. Theoretically and conceptually, it is laid out in The Path of Purification, an ancient Buddhist text compiled by the great monk and commentator Buddhaghosa.]
The individual must master disc (kasina) meditation before this is possible [3]. The modern Buddhist Master Dipa Ma ("Dipa's Mother"), who trained in The Path of Purification via her personal teacher Anagarika Munindra, had these abilities -- according to her closest American students who went on to become world famous meditators and teachers (Sharon Salzberg, Joseph Goldstein, Jack Kornfield, Sylvia Boorstein). Their claims were verified in Calcutta and the USA but, of course, never to the satisfaction of Western science or the impossible standards of the great skeptic the Great Randi. See the great book about her by an American admirer Amy Schmidt, Knee Deep in Grace. Not only did she develop these powers with Anagarika Munindra's instructions, she taught them to her enlightened daughter Dipa and others around her. More: Siddhi

Jhanas: Leigh Brasington (10% Happier)

The true purpose of yoga is meditation: Meditation Sutra: Sthira Sukham Asanam

Can regular people do jhana meditation? | Leigh Brasington | Ten Percent Happier Podcast-Dan Harris
(10% Happier) What is jhana (Sanskrit dhyana) meditation? And can I do it? [What's the secret to the extent there is one? "Relaxed diligence" or balanced persistence that is happy and not overdoing it: sthira-sukha, "stiff-soft," "effort-ease," "strive-release." Relax.]

Teacher Leigh Brasington
American meditation master Leigh Brasington (LeighB.com, a successful lay student of German Jewish Theravada Buddhist nun Ayya Khema) and the famous Thai Theravada Buddhist monk Ven. Buddhadasa (meditation center: suanmokkh.org). He has been practicing meditation for decades and is one of the most prominent American teachers of the jhanas (meditative absorptions).

Right Concentration: Practical Guide to the Jhanas
The jhanas are a set of altered states of consciousness associated with profound amounts of bliss, glee, joy (piti), happiness (sukha), and ecstasy (rapture).

Entering jhana is done through meditating with intense "concentration" (stillness, focus, sustained attention, singlemindedness), and it's considered a controversial topic by some [misguided thinkers] in the Buddhist world.

Can regular people access the jhanas? Are they even real?

I was really happy then the mind paid attention.

The Cosmic Buddha Cave? (Ancient Aliens)

Underground alien connections: Esoteric encounters | Ancient Aliens

There's nothing under us but dark dirt
(HISTORY) May 15, 2025:  Enlightenment by spelunking? Welcome to the Hollow Earth civilization of Agartha (the original Mexican Atzlan or European Atlantis?) Is that you, Ākāśagarbha Bodhisattva (Kokūzō Bosatsu)? Shingon (Esoeric) Buddhism is closely related to Vedic Hinduism.

Shingon (真言宗, Shingon-shū, "True Word/Mantra School") is one of the major schools of Buddhism in Japan and one of the few surviving Vajrayana lineages in East Asian Buddhism. It is a form of Japanese Esoteric Buddhism and is sometimes called Tōmitsu (東密 literally, "Esoteric [Buddhism] of Tō-ji") [1].

The word shingon is the Japanese reading of the Chinese word 真言 (zhēnyán) [2], which is the translation of the Sanskrit word mantra, which means something like "thought instrument" (Japanese "true words" or om'yomi).

The Zhēnyán lineage was founded in China (circa 7th–8th centuries) by Indian vajrācāryas ("esoteric teachers") like Śubhakarasiṃha, Vajrabodhi, and Amoghavajra.

These esoteric teachings would later flourish in Japan under the auspices of a Buddhist monk named Kūkai (空海, 774–835), who traveled to Tang China and received these esoteric transmissions from a Chinese master named Huiguo (746–805).

Kūkai established his tradition at Mount Kōya (in Wakayama Prefecture), which remains the central pilgrimage center of Shingon Buddhism. More

Ghost Dance (Native American religion)

Wovoka (Jack Wilson)
The Ghost Dance (Caddo Nanissáanah [1]) of 1890 is a ceremony incorporated into numerous Native American belief systems.

According to the millenarian teachings of the Northern Paiute spiritual leader Wovoka (renamed Jack Wilson), proper practice of the dance will reunite the living with spirits of the dead, bring the spirits to guard on their behalf, end European westward expansion, and bring peace, prosperity, and unity to Native American peoples throughout the region [2].

I intend to dance again to see the ancestors.
The basis for it is the circle dance, a traditional Native American dance [3, 4]. It was first practiced by the Nevada Northern Paiute in 1889. The practice swept throughout much of the Western United States, quickly reaching areas of California and Oklahoma. As it spread from its original source, different tribes synthesized selective aspects of the ritual with their own unique beliefs.

The Ghost Dance has been associated with Wovoka's prophecy of an end to colonial expansion while preaching goals of clean living, an honest life, and cross-cultural cooperation by Native Americans.

Practice of the movement was believed to have contributed to Lakota resistance to assimilation under the Dawes Act. The Lakota variation on the Ghost Dance tended towards millenarianism [5], an innovation that distinguished the Lakota interpretation from Jack Wilson's original teachings. The Caddo still practice the Ghost Dance today [6]. More

Forget Trump, New Right under Vance

Ever since former Pres. DJ became the GOP presidential nominee in 2016, there has been a small but loud group of so-called Republicans in the media and the halls of power who have fervently dreamed of the day when Trump loses his hold on the party.

Until the vice-presidential debate, these MSNBC "conservative" pundits and figures such as former Rep. Liz Cheney and Mormon Sen. Mitt Romney could have hoped that if Trump face-plants this year, the GOP will finally come back to its senses and put them back in charge.

Ohio Senator JD Vance put that theory squarely to bed onstage in New York City.
  • WHY VANCE EASILY BEAT WALZ IN DEBATE, SOFTENING HIS IMAGE IN THE PROCESS
Though polling varies, by most accounts, Sen. Vance scored a win over Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (not to mention the biased CBS moderators) with his command of the issues and a surprising affability that even seemed to have Walz charmed at times.

Sen. JD Vance, R-Ohio, speaks during the vice-presidential debate at CBS Studios on October 1, 2024, in New York, N.Y. Most pundits agree he defeated his opponent, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz. Getty Images © Ricky Carioti/The Washington Post via Getty Images

But it was the substance, not the style of Sen. Vance’s answers that should worry the Never Trump crowd. Because Sen. Vance, for maybe the first time, is a major political figure who is not Donald Trump, but who can explain and embody Trump’s populism even in the loftiest forums.

The cover of Time magazine this week acknowledged this with a portrait of Vance and the words, "The New Right" which is, in fact, another term for the changes that Trump has wrought in the GOP.

Trumpian populism, or the New Right, has four essential pillars erected by dumb Donald J. Trump:
  1. anti-globalism,
  2. a strong border,
  3. energy independence, and
  4. taking the fight to wokeness.
On all four, JD Vance made the case. The Ohio senator spoke of... More

Death by lesbianism: Anne Heche was God

Anne Heche was God? That what she says. And you believe her? Well, aren't we ALL? We just don't know it. She found out, kind of like drug addled Kurt Cobain (Nirvana singer and author of the "Lithium" lyrics). You're saying she was crazy, right? Crazy maybe, but that's not to say not God. She was tapping in, like a Monarch agent prepped by trauma as used by our covert agencies. It also happens naturally when in an abusive family with horrific molestation, childhood trauma, and chaos. Did Ellen DeGeneres know about Heche's issues and take advantage of her, or was it all Anne's freewill? Did she die a natural death or suffer some Hollywood Illuminati sacrifice like a Princess Di?

Anne Heche’s demons were far greater than we knew
(Factinate) Sept. 26, 2024: Anne Heche was, by her own admission, Hollywood’s most insane “It Girl.” Sadly, for the victim of Ellen DeGeneres, her on-screen awesomeness never outshined her off-screen antics— right up to her tragic demise. Read the full article: factinate.com/people/anne...

Tibetan Book of the Dead on Acid (Dr. Leary)

It helps to first know Vajrayana Buddhism.
We are in the midst of a powerful psychedelic renaissance. After four decades of hibernation, the promise of the psychoactive 1960s -- that deeper self-awareness, achieved through reality-bending substances and practices will lead to greater external harmony -- is again gaining a major following.

The signs are everywhere, from the influence of today's preeminent psychedelic thinker Daniel Pinchbeck, to the renewed interest in the legacy of Terence McKenna, and to the upsurge of collective, inclusive (and overtly tripped-out) cultural phenomena like the spectacle of Burning Man.

What do medicinal (entheogenic) plants know?
The Psychedelic Experience
, created in the movement's early years by the prophetic shaman Harvard professors Dr. Timothy Leary, Dr. Ralph Metzner, and Dr. Richard Alpert ("Ram Dass," author of Be Here Now), is a foundational text that serves as a model and a guide for all subsequent mind-expanding inquiries.

We were square in the 1950s, but these substances changed us into shamans in the 1960s.
.
In this wholly unique book, the authors provide an interpretation of an ancient sacred Buddhist manuscript, The Tibetan Book of the Dead, from a psychedelic perspective.

The Psychedelic Experience describes their discoveries in expanding spiritual consciousness through a combination of Tibetan Buddhist meditation techniques and psychotropic substances.

As sacred as the text it reflects, The Psychedelic Experience is a guidebook to the wilderness of mind and an indispensable resource from the founding fathers of psychedelia. More + AUDIO

Reliving Past Lives: scientific evidence

Dr. Wambach; Ananda (Dharma Buddhist Meditation), Dhr. Seven (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly

Reliving Past Lives: The Hypnosis Evidence
Reliving Past Lives: Evidence
In Reliving Past Lives, psychologist Dr. Helen Wambach, PhD, shares the fascinating results of her scientific, large-scale past life group hypnotherapy regression (and progression) sessions.

In an effort to rule out false memories, fantasies, and wishful thinking often hurled by critics of past life hypnosis (regression therapy), Dr. Wambach devised a protocol:

She chose time-specific periods from 2000 BCE to the 20th century and asked respondents where they were and what they were doing during that specific period. She did not ask what they were but rather mundane details about their appearance, activities, and so on that could be researched and verified.

Who was Helen Wambach? (Part 1)

(dfirth224) Dr. Wambach (John F. Kennedy University faculty member) was a psychologist who pioneered scientific research on the phenomenon of reincarnation (rebirth) in the 1970s using hypnotic regression. She approached her study as a social science as no one had thought to do before.

COMMENT
@1lyndaenglish1(@1lyndaenglish1) Helen Wambach: "The experience of hearing Seth [channeled by Jane Roberts] teach his ESP class is unforgettable. Fortunately, I have been able to hear almost all of the class sessions on tape, and they have deepened and enriched my life. The class sessions were discontinued in 1975, and the group experience in Elmira [NY] for those of us privileged to observe it has now become a part of the past. It lives on in tape recordings and transcripts."

Shoes, race, social class, occupations, types of money used, means of death, and gender were all explored. Mundane questions that would be nearly impossible for any ordinary person to know were asked such as:
  • “What types of utensils are being used?”
  • “Describe weaving techniques that are being used.”
  • “What foodstuffs are commonly in use during this time?”
  • “What color is the brickwork of the houses?”
Reliving Past Lives (Dr. Helen Wambach, Ph.D.)
As theorized, when taken to a very specific period some respondents reported their experiences, while others reported nothing. If they were "making it up," all would report something. This prompted the question, Did they report nothing because they were between lives?

Dr. Wambach reasoned that if she asked a very large number of subjects questions about a specific time and place and received a sizable percentage of similar answers from those subjects who were not in contact, aware of one another, nor aware of the information they were reporting, that was information that could be objectively (scientifically) validated.

This kind of data is worth investigating further. Together with her book Life Before Life, the data is compelling reading for anyone pondering the objective validity of rebirth/reincarnation and life beyond physical death.
  • Dr. Wambach's goal was not to validate whether one person's experience was real or not. The goal of this largescale research was to scientifically evaluate whether or not large numbers of respondents would get the details correct, thereby validating that this is a real phenomenon.
  • For example, most people think that dying by fire means burning to death. So one may ask a regressed person reliving (remembering) a past life, How did you die? If that person answers, "I died in a fire." Then ask, "What killed you?" Most of us in that circumstance would say the flames. But science shows that most people in fires do not die of the fire but rather the smoke. They die of asphyxiation.
  • These subjects reported, to their surprise, that it was the smoke, which is not something most would know. If they were making it up or confabulating, imagining what it must have been, they would say it was the fire that burned them to death. In another example, if asked, "Look down. What kind of shoes are you wearing?"
  • Almost no one could tell what kind of shoes were common in a given place in a given time period, say in Medieval Europe or Ancient Egypt. But if many respondents give the same answer, this answer can be validated or disproven by referencing modern archeological evidence. Research results are not common knowledge.
  • If respondents were not reliving actual past lives, how could they individually come up with correct answers?
