Trump live in Coachella: rally (10/12)

I know I'm doomed to lose, so I'm going around blue states to be able to say I tried my best.
Will you implement Project 2025? - Mm, what's that? I never read it. Everyone knows IDK.

I'm not p*ssed off. I'm just mad.
Right wing radio Los Angeles (KFI AM 640) has announced that DJ Trump is hitting Los Angeles (Burbank in the Valley, approaching the Foothills) to appear on The John With No Ken Show  with John Kobylt (after eight years of begging) today at 2:00 pm (Pacific).

He's coming to California for a rally this Saturday (Oct. 12, 2024, at 5:00 pm with gates opening at noon) at Coachella, the polo grounds in Indio far outside LA, at Calhoun Ranch.

This is where the Stagecoach country music hootenanny is held following the massive pop and EDM jamboree that is COACHELLA. (Two tickets per cell phone number registered, and no guns or Anti-Trump protesters please).

How did DJ make it to the coach? He survived Pennsylvania and the gold course. But he needs another spectacular attention grab if he wants to overcome Kamala's slight lead in some polls. Demented ramblings? That might do it. Heat stroke for an old man, the oldest ever to try to win the office?

Trump rambles on. Massive fight breaks out at MAGA rally

Do you care that you're losing to Kamala?
VP KD Harris is on overdrive. Since DJ chickened out of his interview with 60 Minutes, Kamala went it alone and got slightly clobbered. She just clams up, plays dumbs, changes the subject. Gov. TV Walz fizzled on Jimmy Kimmel Live, an affable Midwesterner coach caught fibbing but being likeable, rightly accusing Trump of being a "pathological liar."

Today is a busy day for Kamala with a visit to The Howard Stern Show on Sirius Radio in New York. Stern is now publicly backing her (what does he know?), claiming to be confused why anyone would still be supporting the New York grifter, his erstwhile friend DJ. She is headed to New York to do The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and another View type show. Will it be enough? Is she pulling out all the stops with the election only a month away?

Suck it up, Buttercup! Jojo in the Dojo

How could this psychotic Nazi coach be so mean to little princess Jojo Siwa with the mom looking on in silence? Is this any way to raise a healthy dancer or pop idol? It is the way of Kali, Durga, and ferocity. There has to be a better way to enter the place of the way to discover the Tao of Self-Development.

Punk: clumsy Dancing Shiv' (skanking)
(WQ) The dojo ("the place of the way") is a training center, do or tao being "the way of," and the other portion of the word being the suggested way. Chado is "the Way of Tea" (cha or chai being tea) and taekwondo is "the way of striking with foot and hand," a martial art (method of combat). The Way of the Buddha could be the mantra Buddho, the Ennobling Eightfold Path, rather than the martial arts of Japanese budō (wu-dō) or "Way of War." And Play-Doh (a brand name form of "play dough," the Way of Play") might be a good name for dancing, if dancing weren't taken so very seriously by aspiring dancers. Playdo might be the best name for "the Way of Meditation," chan'do, "the Way of the Way," the Way of Jhana, chan, dhyana, or Zen (which is just the Japanese pronunciation of the Pali word jhana or "meditative absorption").

Meditation? Start with the mantra "Buddho"
Buddho by Phra Ajahn Thate Desaransi, American Theravada Buddhist monk Ven. Thanissaro (trans) from accesstoinsight.org edited by Wisdom Quarterly
.
The Buddha inspired great confidence

When one goes to study meditation with any group or teacher who is experienced in a particular form of meditation, one should first make one's heart confident that that teacher is fully experienced in that form of meditation.

Confidence (saddha)
Be confident that the form of meditation taught is the right path for sure. At the same time, show respect for the place in which one is to meditate. Only then should one begin practicing.

Dedication
Teachers in the past used to require a dedication ceremony as a means of inspiring confidence before one was to study meditation. They would have one make an offering of five pairs of candles and five pairs of white flowers. This was called the five khandha. Or eight pairs of candles and eight pairs of white flowers, which was called the eight khandha. Or one pair of candles each weighing 15 grams and an equal number of white flowers.

Meditation methods
Then they would teach one their particular form of meditation. This ancient custom has its good points. There are many other ceremonies as well, but I won't go into them. I'll mention only a very simple, easy-to-follow ceremony a little further on.

Dhammakaya technique

Only after one has inspired confidence in one's heart as already mentioned should one go to the teacher experienced in that form of meditation. If a teacher is experienced in repeating samma araham, that teacher will teach one to repeat samma araham, samma araham, samma araham.
  • (Samma = "right," araham = arahant = "enlightened one," so roughly this could mean "right enlightenment.")
Then the teacher will have one visualize a bright, clear jewel two inches above the navel and tell one to focus the mind there as one continues the repetition, without letting the mind slip away from the jewel. In other words, one takes the jewel as the focal point of the mind.

Rising and falling
If one goes to a teacher experienced in meditating on the rising and falling of the abdomen, that teacher will have one meditate on rising and falling and focus the mind on the different motions of the body.

For instance, when one raises a foot, one thinks "raising." When one places a foot, one thinks "placing," and so on. Or else the teacher will have one focus continually on being preoccupied with the phenomenon of arising and passing away in every motion or position of the body.

Psychic powers
If one goes to a teacher experienced in psychic powers, that teacher will have one repeat na ma ba dha, na ma ba dha and focus the mind on a single object until it takes one to see heavens and hells, deities and brahmas of all sorts, to the point where one gets carried away with those visions.

Breath meditation
If one goes to a teacher experienced in breath meditation, that teacher will have one focus on one's in-and-out breath (ana-pana-sati) and have one keep the mind firmly preoccupied with nothing but the in-and-out breath.

Mantra reptition
If one goes to a teacher experienced in meditating on the mantra buddho, that teacher will have one repeat buddho, buddho, buddho and have one keep the mind firmly on that meditation word until one is fully skilled at it.

Then that teacher will have one contemplate buddho and what it is that is saying buddho. Once one sees that they are two separate things, focus on what's saying buddho. As for the word buddho, it will disappear, leaving only what it is that was saying buddho.

One then focuses on what it is that was saying buddho as the object of meditation.

What is the true cause?
People of our time — people of any time, for that matter — regardless of how educated or capable they may be and especially those of us who are Buddhists: Buddhism teaches causes and effects that are entirely true, but why is it that we have to fall for the claims and advertisements we hear everywhere? It must be because people at present are impatient and want to see results before they have completed the causes, in line with the fact that we are supposed to be in an atomic age.
  • (I don't want to criticize any of us as tending to believe in things the truth of which we have not tested because, after all, we all want to know and see the truth.)
Buddhism teaches us to penetrate into the heart and mind, which are mental phenomena. As for the material body, it is a physical phenomenon. Physical phenomena are under the control of mental phenomena.

Training the mind

When we begin to practice meditation and train the mind to be quiet and untroubled, I can't see that we are creating any problems at that moment for anyone at all. If we keep practicing until we are skilled, then we will be calm and at peace.

If more and more people practice this way, there will be peace and happiness all over the world. As for the body, we can train it to be peaceful only as long as the mind is in full control.

The minute mindfulness lapses, the body will return to its old habits. So let's try training the mind by repeating buddho.

Preliminary Steps to Practicing Meditation
Before practicing meditation on the mantra word buddho, start with the preliminary steps. In other words, inspire confidence in the mind, as already mentioned, then bow three times, saying: More

We should manifest our best life -- rich, happy, and prospering for everyone around us!

My website is full of videos to watch, gifts, and things to do right now to start living!

The world is made for pleasure
Today Wisdom Quarterly's beloved and ever so slightly brain damaged friend Lisa Garr (host of Aware with Lisa Garr (theawareshow.com) on Pacifica Free Speech Radio at KPFK.org, co-host of Coast to Coast, host of Gaia's Inspirations with Lisa Garr) had on Abiola Abrams, African goddess priestess (womanifesting.com), sharing a Law of Attraction message of self-esteem building, empowerment, and manifestation of dreams. Is this the way to riches and fulfillment? Whether it is or isn't, it sure sells. I believe in myself. So I'll listen to the Goddess Temple Podcast to believe in Abiola. Why? Lisa said so.

The Awakened Former Nun (Guru Viking)

Guru Viking, Ep. 161: Beth Upton (sanditthika.org), 8/5/22; Dhr. Seven (ed.), Wisdom Quarterly
You, Viking, are a guru. - And you, Fair Lady, are an illumined teacher of the Dharma.

Natural Meditation with Beth Upton (2)
(Guru Viking) In this interview Guru Viking is once again joined by Beth Upton, meditation teacher, former Theravada Buddhist nun, and successful student of the renowned Burmese meditation master Pa Auk Sayadaw.

Upton shares her emphasis on meditation with the natural rhythms of the body and reveals how she deals with students who experience low motivation, psychological challenges, and even psychosis as a result of meditation practice.

She also discusses her own relationship difficulties after disrobing as a nun, why she embarked on special communication trainings to address them, and explains why erotic feelings diminish as one becomes more enlightened.

Canada meditation retreat and a break
(Nov. 7, 2022) We are 20 days into our 30-day retreat in Canada, at the beautiful Camp du Lac Vert, home to some of the most stunning autumn scenes I have ever seen.

It is a rare treat for me to be practicing with the same group of people for the whole month, with no coming and going -- all of us taking a month-long deep dive into the Dharma together.

Huge thanks to Louis-Michel and his family for making this retreat happen, and to all of the retreatants for the sincerity and dedication of their practice.

Retreats like this fuel my enthusiasm for teaching. Having now led eight retreats this year, as well as met hundreds over Zoom, and spent the summer working hard on our Sanditthika Cave Meditation Community in Spain, I have decided to end the year with some weeks out for my own personal retreat.

Thanks to very generous dana from a friend, I will be spending some time in late November and early December visiting Enlightenment Grove (Bodh Gaya) and the other sacred Buddhist sites in India and Nepal.

It has been a long-term dream of mine to visit the place of the Buddha's enlightenment, and I'm really looking forward to the trip.

I will then spend the rest of December in personal retreat, taking some time out to be with friends and family over Christmas and New Year's Eve. I'll be back on Zoom again in early January.

Out today is my latest YouTube video. Today's video is about the four strong supports that the Buddha suggested we keep in place to help our meditation progress smoothly. Take a look and, as always, be in touch if you have any suggestions for topics that you would like for me to cover in future videos.

Group interview online sessions offer us the chance not only to ask questions about our own meditation, but also to listen and learn from the questions of others. These group sessions are open to everyone and are also a good option if you are having difficulty booking a one-on-one Zoom appointment with me.

Book a place in the group interviews up to a month in advance. There are also full moon gatherings (uposatha) to join in on. These gatherings are a great opportunity to come together to deepen our connections to the Dharma and to each other. The latest gathering was on the topic of nature: how interaction with our natural environment impacts our Dharma practice, and how our Dharma practice can impact our natural environment. Everyone is welcome to these! Book a place at a gathering.

I made plenty of time for Zoom appointments over the coming month in anticipation of being offline through most of December. Book regular one-on-one Zoom appointments with me up to two weeks in advance.

If interested in joining a retreat with me next year then take a look at my upcoming retreats. As ever, all of my work is given on a donation basis. For information about some ways in which you can support my work, take a look at bethupton.com. With much metta and gratitude, Beth Upton

Real Law of Vibration we were never told

The pyramids of ancient Egypt are much older and grander than they are given credit for being
WATCH NOW: Egyptian "magic" is real as part of the Law of Vibration
.
The real "Law of Vibration," the hidden knowledge we were never told
(Clarity Coaching - Transforming Lives) Sept. 14, 2022. Many refer to it as REAL MAGIC. The ancient Egyptians spoke not of "gods" and "goddesses" but of ntr (neter), which is where we get our word Nature. Natural forces are conscious and respond to us if we communicate with them directly. This video teaches how the Law of Vibration was used by ancient Egyptians. Many thanks to Dr. Robert Gilbert (vesica.org).

Law of Vibration with Bob Proctor (video)

The SecretThe Law of VIBRATION | Bob Proctor | Law of Attraction Coaching
(Law of Attraction Coaching) 👈 Click the link to sign up for a 30-Day Law of Attraction Coaching Course. Bob Proctor explains the less well-known Law of Vibration and how it is directly tied to the widely misunderstood Law of Attraction.

The farm isn't going well. I just want to be rich, Bob. How do I do it?

Whatever vibration we are in is what we are attracting into our lives. Want different results in life? Then we have to change our vibration. How do we do that? Let the Proctor give a brief overview. Somone loved this video so much that s/he had to share it. Attraction and vibration are real and "laws" (natural orders or impersonal mechanisms) in life. We can learn and use these laws to our advantage or deny they exist and float through life with little to no control.

What do we really want? Do we know? Have we let all the big dreams we had as kids slip away? Why? What if there is a way to still achieve those dreams in life? Sounds too good to be true, right? "If it sounds too good to be true then it probably is." Is this saying always true? It is most of the time, but not all. This IS real. After being introduced to Bob Proctor’s works, one can no longer go through life and say we never had a chance at something better.

I can say this because I took the chance even though I had failed so many times at so many different courses and businesses. There is no “probably” with Proctor. He is the best I have ever seen or been around. He is real and cares about us. Watch this video a few times and really take in what he is sharing. Please note that this is Bob Proctor's video and I claim no right to it whatsoever. I am merely sharing it for other's enjoyment and benefit.

Coping with DEATH: Kobe Bryant (video)

CBS News; Flow Station; Pfc. Sandoval, S. Auberon, A. Wells, Dhr. Seven, Wisdom Quarterly
Kobe Bryant meditated every day. It put him in that flow state and set him up for the day. Be like Bryant. Fortunately, Coach Phil Jackson knew about Buddhist mindfulness and meditation.
UPDATE: Shaq's son Shareef reveals texts from Kobe before fatal copter crash (iheart.com)

Good thing I meditated to prepare myself.
Kobe Bean Bryant (Aug. 23, 1978–Jan. 26, 2020) was an American professional basketball player. A shooting guard, Bryant played his entire 20-year career in the National Basketball Association (NBA) with the Los Angeles Lakers. He entered the NBA at 17 directly from high school and won five NBA championships. Bryant was an 18-time All-Star, 15-time member of the All-NBA Team, 12-time member of the All-Defensive team, and the 2008 NBA Most Valuable Player (MVP). Widely regarded as perhaps the greatest basketball player of all time, but not according to Shaq, Magic, Metta World Peace, or... Rape allegations dogged him for a while, but he managed to shake them and carry on.

They retired his number along ago
He probably should not have been riding in helicopters to escape horrific L.A. traffic, or maybe the pilot should not have been crashing into hills, but either way the City of L.A. is devastated. People care more about Kobe's death than their own. Death touches us all. However, few were prepared to have their wife's Grammys Award Show ruined by the pall of this shocking tragedy, which took out many passengers including Kobe's daughter Gigi.

That's Samsara (the Cycle of Wandering on through Rebirth) for you! Just when you think you're 41, rich, popular, on top of the world looking forward to a very promising post-sports career job, Mara says "Hello." Then Yama has a talk with you.

.
Man, I had so much to do! Who knew Life had D?
The dead are dead (to us), and we can share merits with them. We can learn from them and honor their memory. But they are not dead to themselves; they are not suddenly nonexistent. They exist elsewhere. The Buddha, when repeatedly asked about deceased family and friends, said: "Few are the living; many are the dead."

Many more people are dead than are now alive, so the living are more precious, more important to focus on, more significant to be concerned about. Of course, we cling. He's gone, but he'll never be gone. (He's not really gone. He's just not here). He IS somewhere. That's how it is with Samsara. We wander and wander.

Kobe is like a hero of old, a city state warrior. So common people who never met him feel like they lost a member of their family. Coping with death is an issue for the living. The dead are taken care of and guided. Kobe's in the Bardo now.

Transfer him merit; pray for his safe journey to a fortunate rebirth; hope he had good karma (merit) to help him along. We've talked about all of these in recent posts.
