ICE: Immigration (La Migra) and Customs Enforcement
International Workers' Day observed on May 1st and is also called "May Day" but the two have different histories: May Day is a European festival of ancient origins marking the beginning of summer, usually celebrated on May 1, around halfway between the Northern Hemisphere's spring equinox and midsummer solstice [1, 2]
Festivities are also held the night before, known as May Eve. Traditions include:
gathering green branches and wildflowers ("bringing in the May") [3], which are used to decorate buildings and made into wreaths;
crowning a May Queen, sometimes with a male companion (to Jack in the Green) decked in greenery;
setting up a Maypole, May Tree, or May Bush, around which people dance and sing;
as well as parades and processions involving these [4].
Bonfires are also a major part of the festival in some regions.
Los Angeles and Pasadena had massive turnouts for Hands Off! April 5th peaceful demonstrations and protests, with many clever signs and a great show of solidarity. That is only two of over 1,000 simultaneous actions across the country and other parts of the world. Trump is launching a trade war, and no one is happy about it.
Demonstrators have gathered in cities around the US in recent days and weeks to participate in "Tesla Takedown" protests of varying sizes.

Meanwhile, some Tesla owners have said they have faced insults or vandalism amid the Musk criticism. Participants of the protests have called for a boycott of the EV giant in response to Musk's involvement with the Trump administration and DOGE's efforts to decrease the size of the federal workforce.
The "Tesla Takedown" effort started on BlueSky, a competitor to Musk's X platform, and now has a dedicated website. The site calls for Tesla owners to sell their vehicles and stock in an effort to "stop Musk now."
The website's organizer (teslatakedown.com), "Bill & Ted" actor and filmmaker Alex Winter, wrote in a Rolling Stone op-ed that demonstrations have happened at over 100 Tesla showrooms and other locations. Tesla owner and shareholder David Abrams told Business Insider he's heard about multiple protests but wasn't aware of the "takedown" effort specifically. More

DEAR ABBY: I am blessed with two sons who live with me. They are in their mid-20s.
The younger one is an amazing young man. He’s strong, confident but not cocky, and happy. He’s in college, works part-time, and plays in a band, among other things.
My older son is the opposite. Since he was 16, he’s had countless jobs and is (again) currently unemployed. He has been fired from every single job except one.
He always has some excuse to blame others for his failings. He thinks he’s smarter than the rest of us, thinks he knows better, etc.
I’ve tried to tell and show him the issue is with HIM, not his previous employers. He refuses to accept responsibility for anything wrong in his life.
I love him, but he is driving me crazy. I want to help him but, honestly, I’m over it. I’ve reached the point where it’s difficult to be civil to him.
The last time he was out of work lasted three months. When I gave him a “drop dead” date to find a job or I was kicking him out of the house, miraculously, he found one in the nick of time.

(KCAL News) July 29, 2024: Video shows [abusive] LAPD officer punching handcuffed Black man [abusing him under color of authority] in South Los Angeles. The unnamed officer from the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) has been removed from field duty after punching a helpless man being detained with another armed officer on video [and is being considered for felony charges unless those who decide whether or not to charge him, his colleagues in the LAPD, find an excuse for the punch, show him the video, provide him no cost legal advice, coach him on what to say, take his statement only after consideration, reconsideration, and multiple opinions to form an airtight rationalization and justification that will stand up in any possible subsequent investigation or attempted civil litigation]. The video shows him punching the Black man he handcuffed after a simple traffic stop he allowed to escalate in his impatience and mistreatment of an uncharged citizen who is presumed innocent even if charged. He has not been suspended, fired, relieved of duty, or given anything worse than a cush assignment behind a desk indoors in an air conditioned office.

The latest on California unemployment as extra $600 in federal benefits ends
Mmm, $600 a week is pretty good for no work.
A major source of income for roughly 30 million unemployed people is set to end, threatening their ability to meet rent and pay bills and potentially undercutting the fragile economic recovery.
In March, Congress approved an extra $600 in weekly unemployment [PUA or Pandemic Unemployment Assistance] benefits as part of its $2 trillion [actually much, much bigger according to The Jimmy Dore Show] relief package aimed at offsetting the impact of the coronavirus pandemic. That additional payment expires next week unless it gets renewed.
Cure (lockdown) is not worse than disease (C19)
The unemployment insurance program has emerged as a crucial source of support at a time when the jobless rate is at Depression-era levels.
In May, unemployment benefits made up 6% of all U.S. income, ahead of even Social Security, and up dramatically from February, when it amounted to just 0.1% of national income. Congress enacted the extra payment for just four months, largely on the assumption that the viral outbreak would subside by late July and the economy would be well on the way to recovery.
But confirmed case counts are rising in 40 states and 22 states are either reversing or pausing their reopening efforts, threatening to slow rehiring. The number of people seeking weekly jobless aid has leveled off at roughly 1.3 million, after falling steadily in May and early June.

Kevin & Bean begin in LA radio and are a hit.
Dr. Drew Pinsky strikes again. He was fired from an AM station for public diagnosing failed presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton, who was clearly suffering from a brain disease, with another doctor. He was soon fired, because the DNC's tentacles reach far and wide. He lost his KABC 790 AM show, throwing him off the public airwaves and forcing him onto an assortment of podcasts.
Dick Cheese, L, Jimmy Kimmel, M, Kevin, Bean
He's been a regular guest on the flagging, faltering, and ultimately failing "Kevin & Bean Show." Funny a-hole Bean Baxter was smart; he quit and moved to England to try to get into British radio. He'd been phoning it in (literally) for a long time. Kevin Ryder stayed behind with the show's first Jewish co-host, Jensen, and dimwitted Lisa May replacement ginger Allie. The show doesn't work and it hasn't for a while.
But when Dr. Drew came on and had the audacity to tell his truth saying people should calm down about the novel coronavirus COVID-19. BAM! Less than a week later the 30-year-old show was cancelled. Or maybe everyone got fired for being so pathetically not funny. Bean-less Kevin has been fired effective immediately, no warning, no goodbye, but a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) that means no explanation coming any time soon.
Dr. Drew calls in as he does every Thursday to downplay worldwide coronavirus panic.
Humor was the heart of the show, giving birth to Jimmy Kimmel, Adam Corolla, Ralph Garman, Psycho Mike Catherwood, Dick Cheese... This is radio. DJs and particularly morning drive personalities serve at the pleasure of a heartless corporation and a program director (in this case Mike Kaplan) trying to save his behind. The show is cancelled.
Frank Kramer of the "Frosty, Heidi & Frank Show" over at KLOS 95.5 FM, Los Angeles, extended the same offer he did when Lisa May was heartless canned, followed by funnyman loser Ralph "Man of 100 Voices" Garman (who has his own struggling paywall podcast and bit work over at Family Guy). Kevin ignored the friendly hand, as did socially awkward Allie. But Jensen reached out and mentioned the NDA, thanking Frank for the offer, saying only, "Take our audience."
