Wild Foods and Useful Plants Walkabout

This is an outing with author and nature guide Christopher Nyerges (christophernyerges.com). This is for Nature lovers around Los Angeles who prefer to meditate in the cathedral of the great outdoors.

The session begins with a plant walkabout as we get to know the common local wild food plants (native and exotic/invasive) and useful plants, including those that can be used to make soap and rope and medicine.

Then we’ll cover some basic botany to give a sense of context of the types of plant groups, such as entirely safe groups and families, as well as their relationships. What to bring: water, sunscreen, anything for a short day hike. RSVP

FREE PUBLIC LECTURE
At 3:00 PM Christopher Nyerges will present a lecture at the Hacienda Heights Library, 16010 La Monde St., Hacienda Heights. It's free and open to the public. Learn about the many native plants found in the Los Angeles area and their many uses in the past by Tongva, Chumash, Tataviam indigenous peoples. See many of the common native plants used for food, medicine, fire, soap, and more, as well as some of the common non-native plants and their uses. RSVP (meetup.com)

FREE MEMORIAL EVENT
Nyerges will honor recently deceased local guru Richard White on Sunday, Nov. 17, 10:00 AM, at the Eaton Canyon Nature Center Auditorium, Pasadena. RSVP
