• Lynda Carter was born in former Mexico (Phoenix, Arizona, in the American Southwest). She is the daughter of Mexican Juana Carter (née Córdova) and Colby Carter [1, 5]. Her mother, whose family hailed from Mexico, is of Mexican, Spanish, and French descent [6, 7], like most "Mexicans," who are blended or mixed (Mestizo), part European and part Indigenous DNA. Yoga and a clean diet are keys to vibrant health

Lynda Carter's musical journey, which predates her iconic role as Wonder Woman, has been a lifelong passion.

"I've been singing for over 50 years. I started singing in clubs when I was 14 and was writing music before I became an actor," she told People magazine in 2024.

In March she released "Letters from Earth," a single she called "a love letter to those we've lost," particularly her husband of over 35 years, Robert Altman, whom she married in 1984 and who passed away after a battle with blood cancer in 2021.

"The soul of the song is about how you miss a person so much because they're such a presence in your life that it's almost impossible to imagine that you won't physically see them again in this life," she said.

He explores ways of integrating sound science into related areas of his activism. Jainism is one of the three most ancient Dharmic religions of India, along with Buddhism (protestant Shramanism) and Hinduism (Vedic Brahmanism) with roots that extend back to at least the mid-first century B.C.E.

Today, Jainism remains an integral part of Indian culture. It teaches that the path to enlightenment is through nonviolence and harm reduction to living beings (including plants and animals) as much as possible.

Jains believe plants, animals, and even some inanimate things (like fire, air, and water) have souls (or the divine spark), just as humans do.

The principle of nonviolence includes doing no harm to humans, plants, animals, or nature. For that reason, all Jains are strict vegetarians — so strict, in fact, that eating root vegetables and some fruits is not allowed because removing the root would kill the plant.

However, Jains can eat vegetables that grow above the ground, because they can be picked while leaving the rest of the plant intact in complete dedication to nonviolence.

SYNOPSIS: Bob Sanders, a computer tech, is owed money by the owner of a slaughterhouse in their small Midwestern town. When a used up dairy cow manages to escape the packing plant and take refuge in his backyard, he keeps her as collateral, resulting in human drama, legal intrigue, a hint of romance, and you-didn't-see-this-one-coming ending.

That, in a capsule, is Miss Liberty, the family feature film currently in development and co-written by Rev. William Melton and Victoria Moran. It gets the message of farm animal rights, workers' rights, and veganism out to a larger audience who would never voluntarily watch a "vegan movie" but would love a darn good movie about a cow with a vegan as its female lead.

That lead is Patricia Levinson, aka "Cow Patty," the animal rights attorney who comes from NYC to attempt to save a cow named "Miss Liberty." 

n a change of pace for Compassion Consortium Sunday services, the screenwriters will temporarily move from their regular 3rd Sunday assignments and be interviewed by Elaine Hutchison as Compassion in Action guests.

Victoria Moran, a vegan for 40 years and an animal advocate and vegetarian for over 50, is the author of 13 books, with a 14th, Age Like a Yogi, coming in early 2025.

She was also lead producer for Thomas Jackson's 2019 documentary, A Prayer for Compassion, about food choices and spirituality.

In the CiA segment, Rev. William and Victoria discuss with Elaine why the time has come for Miss Liberty and how viewers can be part of it.

The Compassion Consortium is Miss Liberty's nonprofit partner, so all donations to the project are both tax-deductible and matched dollar for dollar, bringing it that much closer to "a theater near you."

It's odd that no one was told as if no one cared about ancient Mormon (Latter Day Saints) legend and heritage. That city is Manti, the chief city of the Land of Manti. It is situated near the headwaters of the Sidon, which is the modern-day Missouri River, where it intersects with the Mississippi.

It was the most southerly city of importance in the region. Being an outlying settlement of the Nephites, it suffered greatly from Lamanite invasions even though it was strongly fortified.

A posting on Miss Pennsylvania Sheena Monnin's Facebook page claims another contestant learned the names of the top 5 finishers on Sunday morning -- hours before the show was broadcast.

   

Monnin claims the other contestant told her the names of the Top 5 she spotted on a planning sheet for the telecast -- and she decided to step down as soon as those same contestants were named during the show.

  

"In my heart I believe in honesty, fair play, a fair opportunity, and high moral integrity, none of which in my opinion are part of this pageant system any longer," Monnin wrote in one of her Facebook posts.

   

Monnin, of Cranberry, Butler County, did not immediately respond to a Facebook message from The Associated Press. Donald Trump, who runs the Miss Universe Organization, called Monnin's claims that the pageant was fixed... More

"Five things are desirable, agreeable, pleasant, yet hard to obtain in the world. What are the five?
 

1. Long life... 2. beauty... 3. pleasure... 4. status... 5. rebirth in heaven...

However, I tell you, these five things are not to be obtained by prayer or vows [petitioning or bargaining]. If they were to be obtained in this way, who would not have them?

   

It is not fitting for a follower of the Noble Ones [and their enlightening teaching] who desires beauty to plead or bargain for it, or to delight in doing so. 

   

Instead, a disciple of the Noble Ones who desires beauty should follow a path of practice leading to beauty. In so doing, one will attain it, be it human [now or in the future when one is again born as a human] or divine [in worlds to come]...

   

(The same may be said of long life, pleasure, status, and rebirth in heavens)..." (AN 5.43).

The Cause of Beauty

The Greek King Menander asked the Buddhist monk Nagasena, "Revered Nagasena, why is it that all people are not alike? Some are short-lived, some long-lived, some sickly some healthy, some ugly some beautiful, some without influence some of great power, some poor some wealthy, some low born some high born, some foolish some wise?"

  

Nagasena replied: "Why is it that all vegetables are not alike? Some are sour, some salty, some pungent, some acidic, some astringent, and some sweet?"

   

"Venerable sir, I fancy that it is because they come from different kinds of seeds."

  

"Just so, Great King, are the differences you have mentioned among humans to be explained. For it has been said by the Buddha: 'Beings, O brahmin, each have their own karma [deeds], are inheritors of karma, belong to the tribe of their karma, are relatives of karma, have karma as their protecting overlord. It is karma that divides them up into low and high and such divisions."

The secret, then, is that karma separates the beautiful from the ugly. What karma? Patience and kindness having been willed, carried out, and accumulated, frequently practiced, made a habit are causes of beauty when any of these acts come to fruition. Anger, ill will, hate, resentment, and harshness are causes of ugliness when these mental actions finally come to fruition. The Buddha explains in detail:

But WHY?

Perplexed by the apparent and seemingly inexplicable disparity that exists among humans,  the young truth seeker Subha ("Beauty") approached the Buddha and questioned him regarding it.

  

"Venerable sir, what is the reason, what is the cause that we find among humans the short-lived and the long-lived, the diseased and the healthy, the ugly (dubbannā) and the beautiful (vannavantā), the powerless and the powerful, the poor and the rich, the low-born and the high-born, the ignorant and the wise?"

   

The Buddha explained: "All living beings have actions (karma) as their own, their inheritance, their congenital cause, their kinsman, their resort. It is karma that differentiates beings into low and high states.[Note]"

   

Then he explained the causes of such differences in accordance with the law of causes, conditions, and their many results: 

   

"...If one is wrathful and turbulent, is irritated by a trivial word, gives vent to anger, ill-will and resentment, that person, as a result of irritability, when born among humans, will become ugly." (This is because this seed comes to fruition at the time of rebirth conditioning what is expressed in terms of one's vast store of karma).

   

"If one is not wrathful nor turbulent, is not irritated even by a torrent of abuse, does not give vent to anger, ill-will, and resentment, that person, as a result of amiability, when born among humans, will become beautiful." Similarly a reason is given for each kind of karma, conduct, behavior, states (volitions), and traits (habits) that have the power to ripen in the future. More

After all, what unseen motives are impelling us on the great hamster wheel we are assured is an unavoidable rat race?

  

Speaking of hamster wheels and rat races, Las Vegas, the land of deserted dreams, finally gave us our new queen, Miss. America! We also crowned our best spelling child prodigy this weekend. (Is it just a coincidence that it was another white Hispanic and Indian American? Probably). It seems like only 12 months since the last ones. One has to wonder if the Maoist Buddhists of Nepal would tolerate this. Probably considering their new sex symbol. Beauty is very alluring and therefore possesses a great deal of power.

ANCIENT CAHOKIA, modern Illinois - Across the Mississippi River from St. Louis' famous Gateway Arch is a part of Illinois that's a post-industrial wasteland.

Some hope the construction of a new bridge across the Mississippi River will help revitalize the area. But archaeologists worry future development could destroy what's left of another neighborhood -- one that flourished there almost a thousand years ago.

Working just ahead of the cranes and earth movers that are building a stretch of the interstate freeway, archaeologists have unearthed the remains of a sophisticated American Indian settlement no one knew existed.

There are remnants of more than a thousand prehistoric houses and the base of an earthen pyramid -- one of dozens that would have towered above the original settlement.

Rising 100 feet above the ground, Monks Mound is the tallest of the 80 or so pyramid-mounds remaining at the Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site in Illinois. Around 900 years ago it was a carefully maintained earthen pyramid, supporting a large wooden temple several stories high (Véronique LaCapra/St. Louis Public Radio).

This East St. Louis dig sits halfway between a crumbling meat packing plant and a now-closed strip club. But Joe Galloy, who is coordinating research here for the Illinois State Archaeological Survey, says 900 years ago, visitors paddling here by canoe from the Mississippi River would have seen the tall wooden temples that stood on top of many of the pyramids. And at their bases, [were] rows and rows of thatched-roof huts.

"One of the things that I imagine an ancient visitor to this site would have experienced was kind of a sense of awe and wonder," Galloy says. "There would be fires and things like that. People cooking stuff -- all sorts of activity. And you'd see this huge village. And it was probably a very impressive site, one of the largest settlements that people had seen if they hadn't been around this area before."

Further to the southwest in what was once Mesoamerica, now Mexico, there is the great Pyramid of the Sun (greatdreams.com).

Galloy says archaeologists knew about the pyramids from old maps and excavations, but they were all outside the bounds of this new dig site. "So for us it was a really big surprise to come out and discover that we have this big residential area for this ancient city."

Cahokia: A Bustling, Ancient City

Galloy and others believe that what they've found here near East St. Louis is a prehistoric suburb of an ancient city known as Cahokia, once the largest American Indian city north of Mexico. Its remains are five miles away.

What's left of Cahokia is now part of an Illinois State Park. It's also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
