'Desert Daze' cancels 2024 festival

Desert Daze cancels 2024 festival

(Billboard) Organizers for the California festival Desert Daze have called off this year's event. In an announcement organizers stated:

"It is no longer possible to execute the weekend as planned." The event, which has remained independent since launching in 2012, was unable to move forward with the 2024 edition due to "rising production costs and the current volatile festival market," according to the announcement.

Yeah, I'll walk back. Is it this way?

"Desert Daze is more than a festival or business venture to us," said Desert Daze co-founder Phil Pirrone in a release. "The community that we've cultivated together means so much to us and is the reason we will work to find a way to keep this beautiful thing going for many years to come."

The 2024 edition of Desert Daze was set to take place Oct. 10-13 in Lake Perris, California. Headliners for this year's event were to include:

• Jack White,
• Cigarettes After Sex,
• Alex G,
• The Mars Volta,
• Thundercat,
• Liz Phair, and
• De La Soul.

What else is there to do in the desert? UFO hunt?

"With each year, we do our best to serve the Desert Daze community," added Pirrone. "We are always learning and working diligently to improve the experience, and we tried everything to find a way forward this year. While we hit pause for now, we will be working in the background to deliver another special experience for all of us to share in the future. We thank you for your support."

The unnamed officer from the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) has been removed from field duty after punching a helpless man being detained with another armed officer on video [and is being considered for felony charges unless those who decide whether or not to charge him, his colleagues in the LAPD, find an excuse for the punch, show him the video, provide him no cost legal advice, coach him on what to say, take his statement only after consideration, reconsideration, and multiple opinions to form an airtight rationalization and justification that will stand up in any possible subsequent investigation or attempted civil litigation]. The video shows him punching the Black man he handcuffed after a simple traffic stop he allowed to escalate in his impatience and mistreatment of an uncharged citizen who is presumed innocent even if charged. There are many pyramid styles in America

The ancient Native American "Pyramid City" of Cahokia, named by modern people in the U.S., exists in the Midwest in the state of Illinois.

• A Mormon view of Cahokia

Another city stands today along the Mississippi River that is not Cahokia. It is a real city that existed in America before Europeans invaded and occupied the land.

It's odd that no one was told as if no one cared about ancient Mormon (Latter Day Saints) legend and heritage. That city is Manti, the chief city of the Land of Manti. It is situated near the headwaters of the Sidon, which is the modern-day Missouri River, where it intersects with the Mississippi.

It was the most southerly city of importance in the region. Being an outlying settlement of the Nephites, it suffered greatly from Lamanite invasions even though it was strongly fortified.

In the great war inaugurated by Amalickiah, it was captured by the Lamanites (some time before 66 BCE), and converted by them into an important base of operations against the Nephites, east and west.

Indigenous Peoples' History

In 63 BCE two Nephite generals, Gid and Teomner, recaptured it by stratagem. And Helaman took his Ammonite and other troops there and made it his headquarters. 

• The Book of Alma the Son of Alma, Chapter 58: Helaman, Gid, and Teomner take the city of Manti by a stratagem—The Lamanites withdraw—The sons of the people of Ammon are preserved as they stand fast in defense of their liberty and faith. About 63-62 B.C.

It was not captured again by the Lamanites during that long and disastrous war. In later Lamanite invasions it undoubtedly fell more than once into their hands as it was in the direct line of the course they generally took when entering Nephite territory.
