Mindfulness with Thich Nhat Hanh

How do we have reverence for all life?
Thich Nhat Hanh: "To live, we must die every instant. We must perish again and again [like flickering individual stills run in a series of connected frames of a filmstrip, one passing away and the next appearing] in the storms that make life possible."

Thay (Thích Nhất Hạnh) was a Vietnamese Zen (Thiền) teacher who practiced Engaged Buddhism. He often spoke of mindfulness (Buddhist sati) without, to our knowledge, doing much to define or explain it in detail. He lived it. It is, after all, a practice of doing (karma) much more than a theory of being.
Vietnamese Zen?

Buddhist nuns and laywomen
Thiền (Zen) Master Thích Thanh Từ (1924–2022) is credited for renovating Trúc Lâm in Vietnam. He was one of the most prominent and influential Thiền masters of the 20th and early 21st century. He was a disciple of Master Thích Thiện Hoa.

The most famous practitioner of modern Thiền Buddhism in the West was Thích Nhất Hạnh (1926–2022), who authored dozens of books and founded the Plum Village Monastery in France together with his colleague, Thiền Master Bhikkhuni (Nun) Chân Không.

Bhikkhuni (Nun) Chân Không
Other influential Vietnamese teachers in the West include Thích Thiên-Ân, who taught philosophy at UCLA, said "We all shed salty tears and shed red blood; all is one," and founded a meditation center in Los Angeles, and Thích Thiện Tâm, the author of several books in English such as Buddhism of Wisdom & Faith: Pure Land Principles and Practice.

In recent years, the modernization of Thiền has taken a new global dimension, as Vietnamese Zen is becoming influenced by the teachings of influential overseas Vietnamese Buddhist leaders such as Thích Nhất Hạnh, who have adopted Thiền to Western needs, focusing on mindfulness.

As a result, Vietnamese Buddhists have also now begun to practice these modernized forms of Thiền [17]. More

Final war in Tartaria against non-humans

Advanced Tartarian architecture appropriated
Were strong Blacks from Africa and elsewhere, particularly the indigenous of the Americas, exploited and used to replace other "giant" humans, perhaps advanced Tartarians? Nations gave a final order for their removal, their containment, removal, liquidation, and utter erasure from the historical record? The Great Wall of China was not built by China but, apparently, to keep the [barbaric] Chinese out [or keep giant "Tartarians" contained] because the turrets are facing the wrong direction in some places. More crucial to the discussion than the existence of giants, extraterrestrials, antediluvian Atlanteans or others (cannibals who eat meat with original formula tartar sauce), or anything else is the systematic erasure of the historical record. That cannot be denied. Why history was erased, even as legend and rumor linger, is a separate question to speculate about. That this part of it was erased is now undeniable. The evidence is in the remnant architecture and fragments in records that can still be pieced together by dogged determination.

Young Men Series: Dating is impossible!

Young men series: How they’re going about courtship
Can I borrow your credit card so that you can buy me a some presents? Then we can go out!

Why do I need to date girls? Honestly!
One recent week on AirTalk, man-loving Host Larry Mantel thought to explore the experiences of today’s young men in America, the issues impacting them, and the trends they’re bucking.

One of the major issues impacting them: loneliness (psychologytoday.com). One in four men report being lonely, according to Gallup. At the same time, they’re also not trying to make as many connections as their older peers, with nearly half of young men not even dating. (Gen Zs romance gap: Why nearly half of young men aren't dating).

This has led to some interesting data, namely that most young men are single whereas most young women are not single (thehill.com). So what’s going on with the dating scene? Why are young men seemingly struggling with courtship?

Joining Mantle to discuss these questions are Daniel Cox, director of the Survey Center on American Life at the American Enterprise Institute, a right-leaning think tank and Daniel Ellenberg, leadership coach, licensed therapist, and seminar leader.
I like to people watch rather than date, y'know?
One of those bucked trends is their views on religion. Historically, women have been more religious than men overall. But recent data from Pew Research suggests that Generation Z men are closing this gender gap and are becoming religious at rates near their women counterparts. So what’s behind the rise in religious young men, and will it last?

Joining Larry to answer these questions and more is associate professor of political science at Eastern Illinois University where he studies religious identity Ryan Burge and Reformed University Fellowship Campus Minister at the University of California, Irvine Derek Rishmawy.

Last Week Tonight: Mr. Pink doesn't TIP

Tipping: Last Week Tonight with John Oliver

Eww!! I would never date Steve Buscemi!
(LastWeekTonight) March 2, 2025: #23 on Trending. Mr. Pink (Steve Buscemi) has a point. Back in the day, T.I.P.S. meant a gratuity or bribe "to insure prompt service." Now it's obligatory, perfunctory, and promoted by women on dates to test men and the demonstrated generosity of their suitors.

("If he ain't tipping her, ya think he's gonna treat you like the princess that you are? Think about it!") Tip on dates, get lucky? Tip really well, and she'll glue herself to you, and the restaurant will welcome you back like a loser in Las Vegas? Quentin-ji explains it so much better in this tightly written, if vulgar, scene from Reservoir Dogs (not to be confused with the glorious Reservation Dogs).

John Oliver discusses tipping, why it’s more complicated and fraught than customers might realize, how we can address some of the issues surrounding it, and whether or not he deserves 25% at the end of this story.

Sex Advice w/ Doc Haley: Hawk Tuah Girl

WARNING: Graphic discussion of sex with casual discussion of the male member and American life!
.
Haliey Welch talks HAWK TUAH, her upcoming sex advice show on the Bill Maher Network, overnight fame, and Matt Rife shows up
(Whitney Cummings) July 26, 2024: Good For You | EP #249. Haliey Welch is the girl behind the insanely viral “Hawk Tuah” meme seen the world over on every social media platform. Just call me Haley. She joins Whitney to talk about her sudden rise to fame, her dealbreakers for men, and even gets to meet her celeb crush comedian Matt Rife via Facetime!

SPONSORS: Yahoo Finance https://www.yahoofinance.com; BetterHelp https://www.betterhelp.com/whitney; Ritual https://www.ritual.com/whitney; Morgan & Morgan https://www.forthepeople.com/whitney or dial #LAW(529).

Pervy Bill Maher tries to adopt Hawk Tuah Girl Haliey to become her mentor, agent, producer, boss, and advisor so she can have her own sex advice show on his podcast network audiovisual empire. Hawky can be the next "Dr. Ruth" if she takes Maher's advice. He knows how to work Hollywood and advance a career in show biz, if only she'll listen to Professor Creepydrawers. Looks like she would rather take advice from female success story Whitey Cumming or the first gal. Have her 15 minutes run out? We're still interested in what she's up to. And Dr. Ruth Westheimer was a really American phenom.

First robot suicide, South Korean oddity

They already murder (autonomous drones, super soldiers, smart weapons), go to war, lie (deceive), and have sex. Now they're killing themselves? What's next? Are they going to start drinking? This is like Stanley Kubrick tried to warn about in 2001: A Space Odyssey with HAL 9000, the artificial intelligence aboard the ship in space.

South Korea's first robot suicide. What happened? | Vantage with Palki Sharma
(Firstpost) July 5, 2024: In a surprising turn of events, overworked South Korea has witnessed its first reported case of a "robot suicide." A civil officer robot deployed by the Gumi City Council "threw itself" down a flight of stairs, sparking an official investigation into the incident. Did the robot kill itself? What happened and why? Palki Sharma brings the report. #firstpost #palkisharma #vantageonfirstpost

LitFest in the Dena, Los Angeles (5/4-5)

LitFest 2024 (litfestinthedena.org)
This year’s theme is BOOKS THAT MADE THE NEIGHBORHOOD.

Neighborhoods, whether real or imagined, conventional or boundless, changing for better or worse, bestow an identity. They give us a way to see things – a way to see the world.

A neighborhood’s more than a collection of houses on a network of streets.

Storytelling, books, and poetry make us.
A neighborhood could be defined as a collection of people with unique experiences, conditions, and desires, who together form something bigger and more deeply affecting.

It’s where people engender powerful stories together. “It could be that the neighborhood, not the individual, is the essential unit of social change…when you think in neighborhood terms you see things previously rendered invisible.” — David Brooks, New York Times

Happy birthday, Hitler (420 with Joe Rogan)

Adolf Hitler in English AI reconstruction
(Time Unveiled) Jan 1, 2024: RICHMOND This is a remake of a speech by Adolf Hitler before WW II. It has been reconstructed in English as a historical document.

Hurt people hurt people (Emo Hitler)
(WQ) In the West there can only be one opinion, which has been summarized by the punk rock band The Vandals. And it runs thus: "Hitler bad, Vandals good."

However heinous we are told the Fuhrer was (and continued to be many years after he presumably died of suicide alongside his very pleasant gal pal and relative Eva Braun, it is important to understand what he said, believed, and did. This is not settled history.

Just as the Nazis were full of propaganda so, too, is our U.S. government, which invited Nazis, sheltered them from prosecution, assimilated them, used them to create weapons of mass destruction to rule the world and create NAZA NASA to rule it from space, took their place on the world stage which they had been granted by extraterrestrial powers.

Adolf had a soft side and a strong PR firm
Following in the footsteps of civil rights won for us by the ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union), we have a right to hear, question, and investigate the Nazis, Hitler as a Western historical figure, Operation Paperclip and Operation Mockingbird, the activities of eminent mad scientists who previously served the Fuhrer and then exchanged for an upper middle-class lifestyle in the States.

Rizz and style and nice hair?
Powerful Nazis fled to Neu Schwabenland (New Schwaben Land or New Swabia, Antarctica), Argentina, Chile, and elsewhere in South America. This has been looked into by researchers such as Steve Quayle, Tim Kennedy, and others who have published their findings.

On International Pot Day, 4/20, (April 20th), which also serves as the celebration weekend ahead of Earth Day 2024, it is of particular historical interest to listen to the German leader in his own words, which is now possible by AI-assisted tricks such as on-the-fly translation into English of Hitler's own voice and what he was saying to become a Trump-style populist, rabble-rousing, and stirring the otherwise sane and industrial people of Germany to a furor.

If this content is too disturbing to stomach, please look away or send complaints to Wisdom Quarterly, c/o Ashley Wells, and insert them in the comments section for editorial consideration.

(JRE Clips) Joe Rogan is shocked that German leader Adolf Hitler survived WW II and escaped to South America. The U.S. government spent millions trying to track him down, as Tim Kennedy's History Channel program Hunting Hitler on what is more than a conspiracy theory. It is verifiable fact that tens of thousands of powerful NAZI officers and officials made it to South America to live on. See Colonia Dignidad (Villa Barbaria or "Bavarian Village" in Chile?) on a torture camp where Dr. Josef Mengele worked under Argentina's Peron. Emotional contagion: We catch/spread feelings

Muse; Ali Pattillo (inverse.com, 2/20/24, originally published 9/5/20); Crystal Quintero, Seth Auberon (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly

Emotional contagion: How humans catch and spread feelings without ever knowing
Oh my gosh, am I responsible for their reactions?
While some people think they are perpetually cool, calm, and collected, they're not. At least, not all the time.

Across the board, human beings are a roller coaster of emotions, feelings, and moods. According to 25 years of data, these emotions spread like wildfire person to person. Often, they influence a group or organization's collective mood in positive or negative ways.

“We're all walking mood inductors.”

This social phenomenon, called "emotional contagion," permeates all human interactions, influencing not only how people feel, but how they think and behave. Emotional contagion is constant and pervasive, yet most of the time we have no idea it's going on.

Sigal Barsade, a professor at the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School of Business, has studied emotional contagion for more than 25 years.

Neurological benefit to daydreaming at work?
As humans, emotional contagion is one of our "primary delivery systems for emotion," Barsade tells Inverse. "Emotional contagion is the act of person A feeling the emotions that person B is showing, to some extent."

This week, Inverse explores how to understand emotional contagion, prevent your bad moods from negatively impacting others, and leverage the concept to become a more positive force in the world.

"By understanding this phenomenon, that is a form of inoculation against emotional contagion," Barsade says. "It's the first step."

I’m Ali Pattillo and this is Strategy, a series packed with actionable tips to help you make the most out of your life, career, and finances.

Catching feelings — Years before Barsade completed her organizational psychology training, a common office scenario spurred her to investigate how emotions spread.

She was working in an open-office layout close to a particularly negative coworker — the sort who seemed to dampen the entire team's mood whenever she was around.

The negative atmosphere didn't arise from this coworker’s yelling, or even what she said, Barsade recalls. Rather, it was her subtle facial expressions, verbal delivery, and general energy. More:

MLK: Where do we go from here? (speech)

Dr. King via Gabe Gentry, Aug. 26, 2011; Pfc. Sandoval, Ashley Wells (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly

Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. - "Where do we go from here?"
(Gabe Gentry) After spending almost an hour detailing the many successes of the civil rights movement up to that time, Dr. King asks the question, "Where do we go from here?"

What followed was 14 minutes of soaring oratory, condemning the inherent economic injustices found in a consumption-based economy. Within a year, he was assassinated [for questioning our war-based society and economic system, making profits for the few by dropping bombs on Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos to be able to order new ones] while protesting for universal living wages on behalf of Memphis sanitation workers.

["You can question our morality, Reverend, but you will not question our capitalism, our addiction to war, or our fundamental racism and caste structure with Blacks and Natives at the bottom and brown people in general" -- seems to be the message of the assassination. While it seems many civil rights activists supported him, in fact he is great because they turned their back on him for speaking truth to power at a radical (roots) level.]

Genocide Joe Biden at Xmas, US pro class

Will Jailbird Trump make Xmas great again or be in arranging his affairs and on his way to jail?

“Biden is a war criminal!” Pro-Palestinian demonstrators demand ceasefire, end of illegal occupation
(Status Coup News) Dec. 3, 2023: On Dec. 1st, protesters flooded the streets in NYC, demanding a ceasefire and a Free Palestine. Following Israel ending the "pause," they have immediately begun bombing Gaza's civilian population, most of them women and children, and American peace activists have had enough.

Jimmy Dore gets deep: "Virtue hoarders," explains author Catherine Liu in this full interview, accusing the American managerial class.
This book is a denunciation of the American credentialed elite class that serves capitalism while insisting on its own "progressive heroism."

Professional Managerial Class (PMC) elite workers labor in a sphere of performative identity and virtue signaling, publicizing an ability to do ordinary things in fundamentally superior ways.

Author Catherine Liu shows how the PMC stands in the way of social justice and economic redistribution by promoting meritocracy, philanthropy, and other self-serving operations to abet an individualist path to a better world.

Virtue Hoarders is an unapologetically polemical call to reject making a virtue out of taste and consumption habits.
