Jimmy, are you picking on our boy, Donny Jo?
(Jimmy Kimmel Live) Oct. 7, 2024: Minnesota Governor TV Walz joins the show tonight, DJ Trump took a break from bragging to launch another attack on host Jimmy for making fun of him at the Oscars, he had an especially flub-filled weekend as his dementia worsens, he returned to Butler, Pennsylvania (to give the FBI another shot and) to mention what sounds like a completely made up story about "a friend" needing a dinner reservation, Elon Musk joined him on stage even though they clearly both hate each other...

Welcome to the Aryan Brotherhood, Mr. Trump
Trumpers have been blaming Democrats for comparing Trump to Hitler even though his own running mate, Sen. JD Vance, did just that, he has been spreading untruths about the G-Joe Biden response to the hurricane in North Carolina, MTG is pushing a very believable conspiracy that Democrats can control the weather...

Weather manipulation? That's crazy talk!

Rite of passage: 'Long Line of Ladies' (film)

Long Line of Ladies (LA Asian Pacific Film Festival)
I called my dad and told him my menstrual period began. He was so happy, he rushed home.
.
(
When does a girl become a woman? Ihuk
VCM
) "Long Line of Ladies is a stigma-breaking, female-directed short documentary that gives viewers a glimpse into the story of the Karuk tribe of Northern California.

"It takes a significant step forward, normalizing period conversations by highlighting a culture that celebrates and uplifts its young women when they come of age."

From Academy Award-winner Rayka Zehtabchi and Shaandiin Tome, Long Line of Ladies intimately observes the months-long process of one girl, her family, and their tight-knit Karuk as they come together to prepare for her Ihuk.
Are goddesses only symbolic?
The Ihuk is the Native American tribe's coming-of-age ceremony for girls, which had gone dormant for over a century due to the violence and destruction brought on by the new Americans and their California Gold Rush.

In the weeks leading up to her Ihuk, Native American girl Ahty learns traditional songs and dances and mentally and physically prepares to spend four days blindfolded and fasting on sacred, tribal land.

Meanwhile, the women and men of the tribe around her support and uplift her as they pass down knowledge, prepare regalia, and above all promote the continued revitalization of their sacred ceremony.
When I was a girl

The Daughter-Goddess Persephone
My name is Ty’ithreeha Allen. I am 16 years old now. I had my Ihuk ceremony when I was 12. I grew up attending flower dances, which are coming-of-age ceremonies held for [Indian] girls who have become young women at the onset of their period. My mom was pregnant with me when the first flower dance, or Ihuk as it is called in the Karuk language, was held again after not being held for over 80 years. So I have grown up attending the dance and other ceremonies my entire life. I have grown up dancing, learning, and practicing my culture. My family and I prepared for my Ihuk for two years before the actual ceremony took place. All of that prepared me for my Ihuk as I entered womanhood. More

Discussion with the filmmakers

It's good to get our ancient culture back.

Military whistleblower: US has captured UFOs

Military whistleblower claims US has UFO retrieval program | Elizabeth Vargas Reports
(NewsNation) June 5, 2023. In an exclusive interview, a U.S. Air Force veteran and former member of the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency speaks to NewsNation about what he claims are extraterrestrial (ET) craft (UFOs) recovered and kept secret by the U.S. government.

Vimanas: ancient Indian UFOs
Whistle-blower Grusch alleges the U.S. government has recovered non-human craft (known as vimanas in ancient India) for decades and recently filed a whistle-blower complaint, stating he gave what he referred to as classified “proof” to Congress and the intelligence community inspector general.

NewsNation has confirmed Grusch’s credentials and resume but has not seen or verified the alleged proof he said he provided to investigators. Grusch said he can’t show NewsNation the evidence for national security reasons. More: newsnationnow.com/space/m...

Suit: CIA, FBI, NYPD assassinated Malcolm X

Black Peter Griffin, Family Guy; Democracy Now!, Feb. 22, 2023; Eds., Wisdom Quarterly

Who killed Malcolm X? Family files $100 million lawsuit against CIA, FBI, NYPD to find the truth
(Democracy Now!) Latest shows. On the 58th anniversary of Malcolm X's assassination, civil rights lawyer Benjamin Crump announced a new lawsuit from Malcolm X's surviving family seeking compensation from the NYPD, CIA, and FBI for their role in concealing evidence in this political-murder case.

Careful you don't have an "accident," Mr. X

The lawsuit comes more than a year after it was confirmed that federal and local agencies had a role in the wrongful conviction of Black patsies Muhammad Abdul Aziz and Khalil Islam for the planned murder.

Aziz and Islam's convictions were overturned in 2021, and they were awarded a $36 million settlement for wrongful imprisonment by the state and city of New York.

Democracy Now! airs excerpts of Tuesday's public comments from Crump and one of Malcolm X's daughters, Ilyasah Shabazz, of their intent to file a wrongful death lawsuit over evidence concealed in the murder investigation, in part to seek answers on the extent of the government's involvement in the civil rights leader's death.

An Indigenous Peoples' History of the US

RT; Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz; Xochitl, Ashley Wells (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly

This is the first history of the United States told from the perspective of indigenous peoples here before the invasion and subsequent migration.

It's a New York Times bestseller and now part of the HBO docuseries "Exterminate All the Brutes," written and directed by Raoul Peck. The author is a recipient of the American Book Award.

Today in the United States, there are more than 500 federally recognized Indigenous nations [but not in Los Angeles where so many indigenous are concentrated] comprising nearly three million people, descendants of the 15,000,000 Native people who once inhabited this land.
  • Estimates say there were 100 million Natives living here when Europeans arrived to exploit resources, launch an imperial power (that immediately went on to attack the Philippines), and establish a world military power and growing empire.
The centuries-long genocidal program of the U.S. settler-colonial regimen has largely been omitted from history.

Now, for the first time, acclaimed activist and historian Dr. Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz offers a history of the United States told from the perspective of Indigenous peoples and reveals how Native Americans, for centuries, actively resisted expansion of the US empire.

With growing support for movements such as the campaign to abolish Columbus Day and replace it with Indigenous Peoples’ Day and the Dakota Access Pipeline protest led by the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, An Indigenous Peoples’ History of the United States is an essential resource providing historical threads that are crucial for understanding the present.

In An Indigenous Peoples’ History of the United States, Dr. Dunbar-Ortiz adroitly challenges the founding myth of the United States and shows how policy against the Indigenous peoples was colonialist and designed to seize the territories of the original inhabitants, displacing or eliminating them.

And as Dr. Dunbar-Ortiz reveals, this policy was praised in popular culture, through writers like James Fenimore Cooper and Walt Whitman, and in the highest offices of government and the military. Shockingly, as the genocidal policy reached its zenith under U.S. President Andrew Jackson, its ruthlessness was best articulated by U.S. Army general Thomas S. Jesup who, in 1836, wrote of the Seminoles:

“The country can be rid of them only by exterminating them.” Spanning more than 400 years, this classic bottom-up peoples’ history radically reframes U.S. history and explodes the silences that have haunted our national narrative.

An Indigenous Peoples' History of the United States is a 2015 PEN Oakland-Josephine Miles Award for Excellence in Literature. More + AUDIO SAMPLE

Worship of The Fart God (really)

Ashley Cowie (Ancient Origins); Pat Macpherson, Seth Auberon (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly
.
From Fart God to farting out one’s soul: The historic ritualization of flatulence
They command attention, bring silence into noisy environments, and have been associated with the utterances of gods for thousands of years. In fact, entire rituals have been designed around them. Farts. Who would believe it?

The spiritualization of farting was not restricted to northern latitudes. Specialist in the history of gastric wind Prof. Valerie Allen wrote the groundbreaking book On Farting: Language and Laughter in the Middle Ages, in which we learn that most medieval theologians recorded farting as “the product of decomposition…the mark of death.”

Manichaeism was a mystical religion based on dualistic principals that at one time claimed to have had St. Augustine among its members. He believed farts were the act of "freeing divine light from the body” and St. Augustine also referred to people who could produce odorless “musical sounds” like “singing” from their behinds.

Pythagoras, Raphael School of Athens
The philosopher Pythagoras believed the soul (pneuma) was breath [spiritus, prana], and because a fart was a sort of breath, as he was struggling with the mechanics of trigonometry, he was also concerned that if a person pushed hard enough they might “fart out his or her soul.”

The ancient origins of “fart fearing” is better understood when we consider that several wars having been directly provoked by farts. In Book II Chapter XI of JosephusWars of the Jews we are told it was a “randomly presented fart” that set off a chain of events that led to the revolt against the 6th century King Apries of Egypt.

He wrote “an irreverent Roman soldier lowered his pants, bent over,” and “spoke such words as you might expect upon such a posture.” A steely silence spread over Jerusalem and because the unforeseen incident took place shortly before the Passover, a riot broke out to capture the farter “that led to the deaths of over 10,000 people.”

Interestingly, what is considered by many historians to be the oldest joke in the world is a fart joke. An ancient Sumerian proverb dated to about 1900 BC reads:

“Something which has never
occurred since time immemorial:
a young woman did not
fart in her husband’s lap.”
  • [Modern Christian fart joke told in the style of a Confucian aphorism: “Man who fart in church sit in his own pew.”]
Historian Robert Bartlett in 2000 published England Under the Norman and Angevin Kings, 1075-1225, in which he told the story of Roland le Sarcere, also known as "Roland the Farter."

This court minstrel to King Henry II of England did a famous dance that ended with the execution of “a jump, a whistle, and a fart.”

For his anal accomplishments, Roland was gifted a manor house in Suffolk with 100 acres of land. Roland’s fart act was so beloved that subsequent chroniclers repeated his story and expanded his biography, “a process that inadvertently extended his lifespan to 120 years.”

Farting in the New World
Innu traders, Davis Inlet, Labrador, 1903.
For thousands of years, the ancestors of the Mushuau Innu (or Montagnais) people inhabited the northeastern portion of the present-day province of Quebec (above the state of Maine) and parts of the eastern portions of Labrador, known as Nitassinan (“Our Land”).

Scholar Marie Wadden, in her 1991 book The Innu Struggle to Reclaim Their Homeland tells us, “The people trapped moose, caribou, deer, and small game, and they also farmed and fished.”

The Fart God Matshishkapeu
Matshishkapeu the legend (uncyc.org)
The Innu have an odd god. Their language is known as Innu-ainum, part of the "Cree" language group (Algonquian). Speakers of this language worship a range of hunting- and animal-gods [kami], while paying homage to animal spirits.

In 1987 American researcher Peter Armitage wrote "Religious Ideology Among the Innu of Eastern Quebec and Labrador.” In it he studied the Innu god Matshishkapeu ("The Farting God" or, lit., the "Fart Man") and commented on his “unusual omnipresence,” which makes him unique among mythological beings:

“He is everywhere, both inside the tent and outside; he is always with you no matter where you may travel.”

Ancient-Origins.net Magazine
Although Matshishkapeu existed everywhere, he was best known to the Innu as the “fart god,” and this “spirit of the anus [rectum or colon] conversed with the Innu with great frequency” especially while hunting, trapping, fishing, and gathering (Armitage, 1987).

Matshishkapeu was a humorous god, and his “popping up,” was an important source of laughter to the Innu while facing the life-threatening hunt, but he was also thought of as one of the most powerful spirits, able to control the “Caribou Master, as well as humans.”

Matshishkapeu was the most powerful spirit in the Innu world, and he often roared when “the Caribou Master refused to give the Innu caribou to eat.” Scholar B. C. Goddard wrote Rangifer and Man: An ancient relationship in 2003 and observed that within Innu myths, Matshishkapeu “cursed the Caribou Master with constipation and then cured him of his ailment.”

Iñupiat dance, Nome, 1900, offerings to fart god
Furthermore, Armitage noted in his 1987 paper that “Matshishkapeu’s utterances are usually cryptic,” according to what “an Innu hunter said.”

Legends and myths state “that you have to concentrate hard in order to understand what is being said,” but “every single fart,” no matter how glorious or humble was believed to be Matshishkapeu giving an important message.

A sudden unannounced rumble required immediate translation. And a surprise fart, delivered at an inappropriate time, interrupting the tranquility of camp life, called for a specialist interpreter who questioned all the witnesses and let everyone know what the fart was saying. More

Native American-Mexican history of LA (video)

Iron Maiden; Xochitl (gabrielenoindians.org), Dhr. Seven, Seth Auberon, Wisdom Quarterly
British/United Kingdom band Iron Maiden perform their sympathetic "Run to the Hills" hit song.

The story is much more amazing. Native Americans lived in Los Angeles before this was Mexico and long before the USA came along. This was Tongavar, the world. We lived in peace with each other among ourselves and neighbors and even with the colonial Spanish, who arrived and said they "owned" it. How can anyone "own" land?

All remained well until over the centuries they started moving north with a series of concentration camps called the "California missions." Then the former British imperialists, calling themselves after the new continent they invaded for the British Empire, decided to wage a European-style war and take this colony from their neighbor, the Spanish Empire.

The new City of Los Angeles, which started in a dusty little town called San Gabriel at a fort/camp called the San Gabriel "Mission." The new city council's first decree was to set the price of Indian heads: five cents. To survive, the Tongva/Kizh, or "Gabrielenos" as they called us in Spanish, had to run for our lives, run far away, migrate south for safety, as the British band Iron Maiden expalins in "Run for the Hills."

Eventually we returned to find the land transformed and divided up by white men claiming to own land parcels, which was impossible. How can a person own the land? That's like a person trying to own the air that everyone breathes.

The massacre and unmarked grave mass burial of Native Americans by white invaders.
Nothing like a good Western to make you feel good about what was really a U.S. genocide.

Indigenous Peoples' History of US
Their proof was paper. And they asked us for our papers when we arrived back at our ancestral homes. "Where's the paper that says you can live here?" "Paper? We don't need no stinkin' paper." They said we did, and their judges agreed, so we were dispossessed of our land.

The severed heads of men, women, and children (braves, squaws, and babies) had earned their blood-soaked Christian hands good LA money. Then they began to enslave us by means of laws and foreign rules and many creative tricks. How empires move in and enforce slavery and exploitation with a relative few armed and trained men over peaceful natives is fascinating. It's still going on.

When they looked at our dark skins (which are darker than the half-white Mexicans, who are the product of mixed imperial Spanish and Native American ancestry), they asked, "Where are you from?" "'Where are we from?' What the [blank] are you talking about? We're from right here!" "You look Mexican. Did all y'all come from the South, from over the border? Did y'all cross the southern border?" "We didn't cross the border. The border crossed us!"

"Yeah, well, Injun folks, we're going to need you report to the concentration camp, I mean the Church Mission, for food and care, re-education, maybe a little rape, so you can stop speaking that stupid language of yours and get with the program. It's English-only now."

An American Genocide (Ben Madley)
Spanish, after all, is NOT the "native" language. That's the first European imperial language, the language of the invaders (los Conquistadors). English is the language of the enslavers, the second imperial language forced on us in the ongoing genocide.

How long ago do you suppose it became legal to practice our spiritual traditions and speak our actual native languages (like Nauhatl and the Tongva tongue)? It was not decriminalized until 1970.

So let's not be surprised that if everyone were made truly equal at this very moment, there would be nothing equal about the outcomes because one group has already put everything in their favor. It's like asking everyone to freeze, and when the whistle blows, the race will start. Never mind that you're all the way back there and we're up here, all the impediments will be removed and from this moment on we're all "equal."

How we study Ancient Native Americans (audio)

Producer Alexa Lim, Jennifer Raff, Frederic Sellet (ScienceFriday.com); Dhr. Seven, Xochitl, Ashley Wells (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly
Ancient Homo Naledi may have walked alongside early humans. A 14,000-year-old discovery emerges from oral history (sciencefriday.com).
How do we study Ancient Americans? (ScienceFriday.com)

Frederic Sellet and Jennifer Raff (Jason Kirtley)
The Americas were one of the last areas populated by modern humans.

The Clovis people were one of the first groups that lived in the area 13,000 years ago, and scientists believe that there were even earlier groups of migrants that had settled in the continents.
Anthropologists Jennifer Raff and Frederic Sellet study these ancient groups of people, but from different perspectives.

Raff uses genetic information from both modern and ancient groups; Sellet specializes in stone tools.

In a conversation at the Orpheum Theater in Wichita, they discuss how they use each of these scientific tools to answer questions about the Clovis culture and try to piece together clues to how they migrated out of Asia and throughout the Americas.
Are the Bella Bella or Heiltsuk of Canada the original inhabitants of N. America? The Bella Bella are an Indigenous people of the Central Coast region in British Columbia centered on island communities like Campbell Island.

  • Wooden bipoint (Angela Dyck)
The Heiltsuk or Bella Bella people of Canada, a First Nations group, report in their oral history that an island on the west coast of their territory has been home for thousands of years -- one of the only places to stay uncovered during the Ice Age. When archeologists digging on Triquet Island last year found charcoal flakes that could be dated at up to 14,000 years old, the Heiltsuk/Bella Bella found their oral history reaffirmed by the data. And archaeologists had more evidence to an emerging hypothesis: After crossing the Bering Sea, the original inhabitants of North America traveled along the coast to avoid the inhospitable ice cover. Who are the Clovis?

"Paleo-Indians" hunting ancient creature
The Clovis culture is a prehistoric Paleo-Indian culture, named for distinct stone tools found in close association with Pleistocene fauna at Blackwater Locality No. 1 near Clovis, New Mexico, in the 1920s and 1930s. The Clovis culture appears around 11,500–11,000 uncal RCYBP (uncalibrated radiocarbon years before present), at the end of the last glacial period, and is characterized by the manufacture of "Clovis points" and distinctive bone and ivory tools. Archaeologists' most precise determinations at present suggest that this radiocarbon age is equal to roughly 13,200 to 12,900 calendar years ago. Clovis people are considered to be the ancestors of most of the indigenous cultures of the Americas... More
