The Pow Wow is a powerful gathering to unite people, pay homage, teach traditions, and allow expression. Along with the festival itself, there are subtleties that may be missed. Here's the inside scoop, for example on Pow Wow clothing. In general, California pow wows have simple, clear-cut rules prohibiting alcohol and smoking. Most pow wows encourage public attendance and participation for Natives of all tribes and others as well. Here is an abbreviated history of Native populations in California.
