Eclipse, alignment, and meteor shower

What is Earth center of that stars circle it?
Remember to see the "per-seeds" (pronounced /per-see-ids/) through the dark night of the new (missing) moon, a fireball Perseid meteor shower, as earth passes through the debris field of Comet Swift-Tuttle, and an alignment of six planets: Jupiter, Mercury, Mars, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. There's a total solar eclipse, the first in 27 years for Europe, over Greenland (technically part of Denmark), Iceland, and Spain -- a shadow going in the wrong direction if the Earth were spinning from west (Greenland) to Spain (east). It will be visible to millions on Earth. Will the world end? - YES, but not tomorrow.

Nearly 2 1⁄2 years after space enthusiasts on Earth last saw a total solar eclipse, another is on its way, allowing U.S. viewers to see a partial glimpse of the phenomenon, with other parts of the world like Spain seeing totality.

This year’s eclipse falls on the morning of Aug. 12, 2026, allowing people across most of Europe and in northwestern Africa to see the moon something (possibly Rahu) cover or "eclipse" most of the sun.

For most people, including those in the United States, the moon will not completely block the sun, making this year’s eclipse partial, according to NASA's website.

The lucky people in the USA able to view the partial solar eclipse this year include those from Alaska to North Carolina. People in [the small capital country of] Washington, DC [the ruling district of the larger country's original imperial-colonial name, Columbia], will also be able to see it.

In Alaska, the eclipse will happen in the morning, while those in the northern U.S. will be able to see it between midday and midafternoon, NASA said. People near the center of the eclipse path in Greenland, Russia or the North Atlantic will experience the eclipse for a slightly longer period; most people will see the sun eclipsed for less than two minutes, according to NASA. Atlantis, Plato, Gobekli Tepe (Graham Hancock)

Why does researcher Graham Hancock (grahamhancock.com) talk like this, not only about ancient Egypt but also the Americas. He's written about it, looking at the data that science dare not speak about for fear of losing funding or being ridiculed for contemplating explanatory theories beyond the current consensus. It is like Michael Cremo's forbidden archeology (mcremo.com).

Time is an illusion: Power of Now (video)

Time is an illusion, according to Einstein

Does time really exist? Buddhism’s view on the nature of time
The Time Paradox (social psychology)
(Buddhism Podcast) Buddhism Explained. Time: illusion or reality? This examination of "time" from a Buddhist perspective reveals intriguing parallels with modern science.

From Albert Einstein's pronouncements to the Buddha's wisdom in the Dhammapada [a collection of sayings], the concept of time as a construct is explored.

Dhammapada for Awakening
Quantum physics
, with its baffling phenomena like entanglement and the observer effect, challenges [our consensus reality and] conventional understandings of time, mirroring ancient Buddhist insights on the subjective nature of reality.

The neuroscience of time perception is considered, exploring how our brains [thoughts] construct our experience of time's flow.

Buddhist practices like mindfulness meditation are investigated as potential pathways to experiencing the present moment more fully, even transcending the limitations of time.

Quantum Buddhism: Dancing in Emptiness (Smetham)

The Power of Now: A Guide...
The profound implications of time's illusory nature are considered, ranging from the science of neuroplasticity and memory reconstruction to the Buddhist concept of emptiness (sunyata) [the impersonal nature of all phenomena, particularly the Five Precepts clung to as self].

The intricate relationship between consciousness and time is examined, and practical methods for cultivating timeless awareness [flow states, jhanas or meditative absorptions, singleminded focus that purifies the mind] are offered.

Singleminded focus leads to flow and absorption
This inquiry aims to bridge scientific understanding and spiritual wisdom, offering a fresh perspective on the power of the present moment [like Eckhart Tolle's famous book, The Power of Now] and the potential for liberation from a time-bound existence.

Universe twice as old as thought? (video)

British astrophysicist Dr. Becky Smethurst, University of Oxford, Christ Church (Dr. Becky on YouTube, July 27, 2023; Sheldon S., CC Liu (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly

Has JWST shown that the universe is TWICE as old as we thought?!
With all the CGI, color enhancements, photographic manipulations, projections, and theoretical mathematical calculations, this slice of heaven/space could be any age (James Webb Telescope)

It's really big: JWST prepped on earth
(Dr. Becky) The great Dr. B. has attitude, doubting that new evidence and explanations for the current data suggest the universe is older than we thought.
A new research study has come out claiming that to explain the massive galaxies found at huge distances in James Webb Space Telescope images, the universe is older than we think, at 26.7 billion years (rather than 13.8 billion years old).

I like to focus on how we know things, not just what we know [epistemology], especially the things we still don't know. If you've ever wondered about something in space and couldn't find an answer online, ask me. My day job is to do research into how supermassive black holes can affect the galaxies that they live in. In particular, I look at whether the energy output from the disk of material orbiting around a growing supermassive black hole can stop a galaxy from forming stars. http://drbecky.uk.com https://rebeccasmethurst.co.uk

“We are living in a culture entirely hypnotized by the illusion of time, in which the so-called present moment is felt as nothing but an infinitesimal hairline between an all-powerfully causative past and an absorbingly important future. We have no present. Our consciousness is almost completely preoccupied with memory and expectation. We do not realize that there never was, is, nor will be any other experience than present experience. We are therefore out of touch with reality.”

Sex at Dawn: Prehistoric Origins of Sex

Chris Ryan, Cacilda Jetha (amazon); Ashley Wells, Seth Auberon (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly

    .
Sex at Dawn: How We Mate, Why We Stray, and What It Means for Modern Relationships
Sex at Dawn challenges conventional wisdom about sex in a big way. By examining the prehistoric origins of human sexual behavior the authors are able to expose the fallacies and weaknesses of standard theories proposed by most experts. This is a provocative, entertaining, and pioneering book. I learned a lot from it and recommend it highly.”
    — Dr. Andrew Weil, M.D.

Sex at Dawn irrefutably shows that what is obvious — that human beings, both male and female, are lustful — is true, and has always been so…. The more dubious its evidentiary basis and lack of connection with current reality, the more ardently the scientific inevitability of monogamy is maintained — even as it falls away around us.”
    — Dr. Stanton Peele, Ph.D.

Wanna take a look? Or wanna read comics?
This is a controversial, idea-driven book that challenges everything (we think) we know about sex, monogamy, marriage, and family.

In the words of Steve Taylor (The Fall, Waking From Sleep), Sex at Dawn is “a wonderfully provocative and well-written book which completely re-evaluates human sexual behavior and gets to the root of many of our social and psychological ills.”

    Monogamy?
    Original hardcover release
In this thought-provoking book, renegade thinkers Christopher Ryan and Cacilda JethΓ‘ debunk almost everything we “know” about sex.

They weave together convergent, frequently overlooked evidence from anthropology, archaeology, primatology, anatomy, and psychosexuality to show how far from human nature monogamy really is.

    Author Christopher Ryan, Ph.D.
In Sex at Dawn, the authors expose the ancient roots of human sexuality while pointing toward a more optimistic future illuminated by our innate capacities for love, cooperation, and generosity.

“The single most important book on human sexuality since Alfred Kinsey’s Sexual Behavior in the Human Male.”
    – Dan Savage, author of the Savage Love column

    Back cover to paperback
“Challenges conventional wisdom about sex in a big way. Provocative, entertaining, and pioneering.”
    – Dr. Andrew Weil, M.D., author of Eight Weeks to Optimum Health, Spontaneous Healing & Natural Health, Natural Medicine
    “Paradigm-shifting.”
    – Dr. Stanley Krippner, Ph.D., psychologist and parapsychologist

Sex at Dawn has helped me understand myself and the world so much more clearly.”
    – Ilana Glazer, co-creator of Broad City More

BOOK REVIEW: "Sex at Dawn" (video)

Goodreads.com; co-authors Dr. Christopher Ryan, Ph.D. and Dr. Cacilda Jetha, MD, Idea City; Ana Kasparian (The Young Turks); Ashley Wells, Seth Auberon (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly
Co-author couple at Angkor Wat Buddhist temple complex, Cambodia (chrisryanphd.com)
Authors of Sex at Dawn Dr. Christopher Ryan, Ph.D. and Dr. Cacilda Jetha, M.D. reject the "standard narrative" of human monogamy through history. Instead, they look to our prehistoric ancestors and close primate relatives, like the bonobos, to propose a different idea of sexual relationships.
    .
Since Darwin's day, we've been told that sexual monogamy comes naturally to our species.

Mainstream science -- as well as religious and cultural institutions -- has maintained that men and women evolved in families in which a man's possessions and protection were exchanged for a woman's fertility and fidelity. But that narrative is collapsing.

Fewer and fewer couples are getting married, and divorce rates keep climbing as adultery and flagging libido drag down even seemingly solid marriages.

    Co-author couple (chrisryanphd.com)
How can reality be reconciled with the accepted narrative? It can't be, according to renegade thinkers Christopher Ryan [Shame Exorcist] and Cacilda JethΓ‘ [sexatdawn.com]. While debunking almost everything we "know" about sex, they offer a bold alternative explanation in this provocative and brilliant book.

They are a couple of 12+ years.
Dr. Ryan and Dr. JethΓ‘'s central contention is that human beings evolved in egalitarian groups that shared food, child care, and, often, sexual partners.

Weaving together convergent, frequently overlooked evidence from anthropology, archaeology, primatology, anatomy, and psychosexuality, the authors show how far from human nature monogamy really is.

Human beings everywhere and in every era have confronted the same familiar, intimate situations in surprisingly different ways. The authors expose the ancient roots of human sexuality while pointing toward a more optimistic future illuminated by our innate capacities for love, cooperation, and generosity.

With intelligence, humor, and wonder, Ryan and JethΓ‘ show how our promiscuous past haunts our struggles over monogamy, sexual orientation, and family dynamics. They explore:
    • why long-term fidelity can be so difficult for so many;
    • why sexual passion tends to fade even as love deepens;
    • why many middle-aged men risk everything for transient affairs with younger women;
    • why homosexuality persists in the face of standard evolutionary logic; and
    • what the human body reveals about the prehistoric origins of modern sexuality.
In the tradition of the best historical and scientific writing, Sex at Dawn unapologetically upends unwarranted assumptions and unfounded conclusions while offering a revolutionary understanding of why we live and love as we do. More

Women gain right to vote 100 years ago today

TED Ed; CBSNews.com; Ellie Askew, Crystal Quintero (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly

    .
How shall we gain enlightenment? Prajnaparamita
The 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, guaranteeing American women the right to vote, celebrates a big birthday today (June 4th), as it was passed by both chambers of Congress 100 years ago on June 4, 1919.

First, the House of Representatives passed the amendment on May 21, 1919; the Senate followed on June 4 with a vote of 56 to 25 (National Archives).

The next year, following approval by three-fourths of state legislatures, the amendment was ratified into the Constitution.

We can rise up: Goddess power! (Eos)
The opening of the Amendment's text reads, "The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex. Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation."

Since the 19th Amendment's passage, women have helped inaugurate a new era of American politics.

In fact, many historians can point a clear line from the passage of the 19th amendment to the passage of Civil Rights legislation in the 1960s and the current movements seeking to offer greater federal protections for gay and transgender Americans. More

Justin Bieber loses itchy beard; Tadolf Swiftler

Bela and Amber Dorrian, CC Liu, Wisdom Quarterly (Schadenfreude Series)
Don't cry; we're in public! - Was it that I vomited or threats from my fans? (PerezHilton)

Jubilation at the offices of WQ: He's on the market again! Now that that woman is finally out of the way.

Celebrities are disposable; gossip is priceless. The Biebs may have hit the jackpot at MTV, but Selena's been (7-year) itching to get out of their glamorous relationship, which we speculate was arranged by their agents as a PR stunt.

    The Doll (thingsthatexist.com)
Of course, the break up may have something to do with BeelzeBeeber vomiting on stage recently. That does not go over too well with anxious ingenues trying to make names for themselves. But I remember when the lesser half of JuSe (juicy) was getting death threats from 'tweens all over the world for kissing the biggest hairdo since Elvis' pompadour and the Beatles' bowl cuts.

"This is another swipe against Canada," complains editor Amber Dorrian. But Perez Hilton seems gleeful, and did you hear the over schadenfreude over at TMZ Central?

"Hey don't laugh, T-Lot; he took me back."
Don't you worry, BeeBee, someone will come along before long. Oh, say what? Reports are coming in that Beeb's agent is really earning his take this week: his contractual agreement is already sporting an angelic armcharm all about town -- Victoria's Secret "angel" Cara Delevingne (who was just dating Harry Styles of One Direction), tweeted proof that "sweet" JB was out on a date with here.

    Tadolf Swiftler loses Kennedy beau
    Dhr. Seven, Wisdom Quarterly (COMMENTARY)
Parody of Taylor Swift’s “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together”

    Goddess or demi-goddess Tadolf? (gossipboy.ca)
If the devas (demigods, divas, deities) can't stay together, what hope is there for us mere mortals? The devas are the unbelievably beautiful hybrid space people. Aliens, far from being little green men, are Nordic blonds with dreamily-colored eyes, powerful Amazonians, and so on.

They create bloodlines that hold the world enthralled with their shenanigans: Note the behavior of the ancient Roman, Greek, and Indian pantheons as well as the Pharaoh and European royalty.

They suffer from more cupidity, lust, reckless abandon, jealousy, vengeance, spite, and pettiness than the humans who adore them. Plus they are long-lived, radiant, and (usually) graceful.

Nicki Roman Minaj wants all y'all @$%#hs to know!
In their day, they were the stars. Today they are bigger than ever thanks to the reverse-engineered means of mass media our scientists have developed before we were ready.

Look what TV did to the planet less than a century before and before that the phone. Now they are combined, and we can't get enough. Do not underestimate the power of the devas. It is not for naught that we remember them.

    Remembering the Devas
Bronze devi statues on the Buddhist island of Lantau, China (Evs in nz/flickr.com)

The Buddha advised the deva-adoring Indian public of his day to -- rather than adoring, worshipping, and/or asking boons of the "shining ones" -- recollect the devas' virtues (deva-anussati). Consider the fact that by way of karma, one can be reborn a deva. That is not so difficult in the scheme of things. Keeping the precepts, five or eight, is enough. If one does nothing more, one need not even wish for this result. It may happen on its own. The correspondence is startling. Do the people of today not behave exactly as they did in days of olde? Fans and fanatics for pantheons -- Vedic, Roman, Greek, Egyptian, Sumerian, Gobekli Tepe, and extending back into our misty prehistory drawing on cave walls. Here is the recollection the Buddha taught (AN 11.13):

Upppalavanna Theri - the Buddhist Lakshmi
Recollect the devas: "There are the devas of the Four Great Space Kings, the devas of the space Realm of the Thirty-Three, the devas of the Hours, the Contented Devas, the devas who delight in creation, the devas who wield power over others' creations, the devas of Brahma's retinue, the devas beyond them.

"Whatever confidence (saddha, faith, conviction, belief) they were endowed with when they fell away from this life and re-arose there (in that deva realm), the same sort of confidence is present in me. [I have the power of conviction, too.]

    Birth of the devi Venus
"Whatever virtue (sila, precepts, morality, ethics) they were endowed with..., the same sort of virtue is present in me. [I have the power of virtue, too.]

"Whatever learning (suta, study, knowledge, memorization) they were endowed with..., the same sort of learning is present in me.

"Whatever generosity [dana, liberality, giving, unselfishness] they were endowed with..., the same sort of generosity is present in me.

"Whatever wisdom (panya, insight, knowledge, discernment) they were endowed with..., the same sort of wisdom is present in me."

    Demigods Justin and Selena (USmag)
"At any time when a disciple of the noble ones (arya, enlightened) is recollecting the confidence, virtue, learning, generosity, and wisdom found in oneself and the devas, that person's mind is at that time freed of passion, freed of aversion, freed of delusion.

"One's mind/heart advances straight based on the devas (their qualities). And when the heart/mind is advances straight, the disciple of the noble ones gains a sense of the goal, gains a sense of the Dharma, gains joy connected with the Dharma.

"In one who is joyful, rapture arises. In one who is rapturous, the body grows calm. One whose body is calmed senses pleasure (piti). In one sensing pleasure, the mind becomes concentrated, collected (samadhi).

"Mahanama, you should develop this recollection of the devas while walking, while standing, while sitting, while lying down, while busy at work, while resting at your home crowded with children."
