The film was directed by Robert Stevenson and its screenplay written by Lawrence Edward Watkin after the books of Herminie Templeton Kavanagh.
The film's title is a slight modification of one of the two Kavanagh books, Darby O'Gill and the Good People. This book and her other book, The Ashes of Old Wishes and Other Darby O'Gill Tales, were the sources for this beloved Irish fairy tale movie. More

Don Rickles -- comedian and best friend of singer/mafioso Frank Sinatra -- died on his birthday of "natural causes," which is to say of not taking care of himself but boozing it up, eating garbage, and assorted and sundry lifestyle choices. But he was funny, and that probably kept going for a long time. It sure kept him sharp. At least we still have Insult the Comic Dog to amuse us, which it seems Rickles inspired. Thanks, Don.

Without congressional [rubber stamp] approval, last night the United States
attacked Syrian in an airfield, marking the first military action by the
U.S. against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s forces since the Syrian
war began over six years ago.
The move comes after the U.S. [uses the pretext without proof or any independent investigation] accuses Assad’s forces of using the air base to carry out a chemical weapons
attack that killed 86 people, including at least 30 children. Syria
denies carrying out the attack.
[But the attack would not justify a U.S. attack, except in the mind of armchair warmongers at home wanting the U.S. to bomb somebody for something instead of just staying on the sidelines as the mainstream media serves as the propaganda arm of the Pentagon and war-profiteering corporate donors.]

this roundtable discussion (see video).
Democracy Now! also speaks with Alia Malek, journalist
and former human rights lawyer, and Phyllis Bennis, a fellow at the
Institute for Policy Studies. "The hypocrisy of it from the vantage
point of the Trump administration is staggering," Bennis says, calling
the strike an act of war and arguing all sides in Syria have violated
international law. More

"That
means immediately lifting of the Trump ban on Syrian refugees coming to
the United States, of funding of the $5 billion that the U.N. says is
desperately needed to help the humanitarian crisis facing the Syrian
refugees, and demand that the U.S. work with Russia to finally come to a
ceasefire and work for a political solution."

Why does the US love war and war profiteering so much, and why do we develop so many war chemicals then sell them to other countries? Is it the height of hypocrisy or strategic planning to control the whole board all the time everywhere?

When we hear something about Buddhism in the daily news, we usually think of it having a background of huge idols and yellow-robed
monks, with a thick atmosphere of incense fumes. We never feel that
there is anything in it for us, except, maybe, an exotic spectacle.
Is that all there is in Buddhism? Do the news photographers
take pictures of the real Buddhism? Do the glossy magazines show the
fundamentals or the externals?
Let us see, then, what Buddhism really is, Buddhism as it was
originally expounded and as it still exists underneath the external
trappings and trimmings.
Although generally regarded as a "religion," Buddhism is basically a
method of cultivating the mind.
It is true that, with its long monastic
tradition and its emphasis on ethical factors, it possesses many of the
superficial characteristics that we Westerners associate with religion.
However, it is nontheistic because it affirms that the universe is
governed by impersonal laws rather than any creator-god. It has no use
for prayer, for the Buddha, the Dharma (Teaching), and the Sangha (of enlightened disciples) are teachers, exemplars, not gods. And it regards
devotion not as a religious obligation but as a means of self-development and expressing
gratitude. So it is
not a religion at all from these points of view.
Again, Buddhism knows "faith" only in the sense of confidence, conviction, the temporary setting aside of doubt long enough to test something and be sure, in
the way recommended by the Buddha.
Why "believe"? Come and see for yourself.
A Buddhist is not expected to have
blind faith or to believe in anything merely because the Buddha said it, or
because it is written in ancient books, or because it has been
handed down by tradition, or because others believe it. (See the Kalama Sutra).
One may, of
course, agree to take the Buddha Dharma, the Doctrine made known by the Enlightened One, as a working
hypothesis and to have confidence in it. But one is not expected to
accept anything unless reason accepts it.
This does not mean that
everything can be demonstrated rationally and empirically, for many points lie beyond
the scope of the intellect and can be cognized only by the development
of higher faculties. The individual can confirm it with certainty, whereas others will still need to follow the path for themselves to confirm it for themselves.
But the fact remains that there is no need for
blind acceptance of anything in the Buddha's doctrine. More

Fairy-human hybrids?
[In Buddhism this diverse class of more subtle beings -- often shapeshifters with the "power of transformation" -- are called devas, garudas, kumbandhas, nagas, petas, narakas, asuras, rakshasas, yakkhas, or shining ones or elementals, nymphs or avians, dwarfs or gnomes, dragons or reptoids, ghosts or ghouls, hellions, titans or giants, demons or inimicals, ogres and wildmen, and so on.]
In the lore of Ireland (sidhe), Scandinavia, and Scotland, when God cast out the arrogant angels from heaven, they became the evil spirits that plague humankind, tormenting us and inflicting us to harm.
Disney has done harm and good by its depictions.
The ones who fell into hell and into caves and abysses became devils and death-maidens.
However, those who fell onto the earth became goblins, imps, dwarfs, thumblings, alps, noon-and-evening-ghosts, and will-o'-the-wisps.
Those who fell into the forests became the wood-spirits who live there: the hey-men, the wild-men, the forest-men, the wild-women, and the forest-women.
Finally, those who fell into the water became water spirits: water-men, mermaids, and merwomen. These angels were condemned to remain where they were, becoming the faeries of seas and rivers, the earth, and the air (sacred-texts.com/neu/celt...).
III. IN SCOTLAND The Fairy-Faith in Celtic Countries by W.Y. Evans-Wentz, 1911, pp. 85-86, Intro. by Alexander Carmichael, Hon. LL.D. of the Univ. of Edinburgh; author of Carmina Gadelica
Water maiden, sea devi, Golden Mermaid on Prince Frederick's Barge, 1732 (wiki)
The belief in fairies was once common throughout Scotland -- Highland and Lowland. It is now much less prevalent even in the Highlands and islands, where such beliefs linger longer than they do in the Lowlands. But it still lives among the old people, and is privately entertained here and there even among younger people; and some who hold the belief declare that they themselves have seen fairies.
Various theories have been advanced as to the origin of fairies and as to the belief in them. The most concrete form in which the belief has been urged has been by the Rev. Robert Kirk, Minister of Aberfoyle, in Perthshire.
Another theory of the origin of fairies I took down in the island of Miunghlaidh (Minglay); and, though I have given it in Carmina Gadelica, it is sufficiently interesting to be quoted here. During October 1871, Roderick Macneill, known as 'Ruaraidh mac Dhomhuil, then ninety-two years of age, told it in Gaelic to the late J. F. Campbell of Islay and the writer, when they were storm-stayed in the precipitous island of Miunghlaidh, Barra:--
The Proud Angel fomented a rebellion among the angels of heaven, where he had been a leading light. He declared that he would go and found a kingdom for himself. When going out at the door of heaven the Proud Angel brought prickly lightning and biting lightning out of the doorstep with his heels. Many angels followed him -- so many that at last the Son called out, "Father! Father! the city is being emptied!" whereupon the Father ordered that the gates of heaven and the gates of hell should be closed. This was instantly done. And those who were in were in, and those who were out were out; while the hosts who had left heaven and had not reached hell flew into the holes of the earth, like the stormy petrels. These are the Fairy Folk--ever since doomed to live under the ground, and only allowed to emerge where and when the King permits. They are never allowed abroad on Thursday, that being Columba's Day; nor on Friday, that being the Son's Day; nor on Saturday, that being Mary's Day; nor on Sunday, that being the Lord's Day.
God be between me and every fairy,
Every ill wish and every druidry;
To-day is Thursday on sea and land,
I trust in the King that they do not hear me.
On certain nights when their bruthain (bowers) are open and their lamps are lit, and the song and the dance are moving merrily, the fairies may be heard singing lightheartedly:--
Not of the seed of Adam are we,
Nor is Abraham our father;
But of the seed of the Proud Angel,
Driven forth from Heaven.
Edgar Cayce (pronounced K-C, now reborn as David Wilcox as he continues his mission) offers a fresh and fascinating perspective on the
supernatural realms and their inhabitants, exploring fairies, angels, brownies, and more.
Who in the world was Edgar Cayce?
Edgar Cayce and the couch used for his psychic investigations/healings (A.R.E.)
The A.R.E. (Association for Research and Enlightenment) has a good explanation: Edgar Cayce (1877-1945)
has been called the "sleeping prophet," the "father of holistic
medicine," and the most documented American psychic of the 20th century.
For more
than 40 years of his adult life, Cayce gave psychic "readings" to
thousands of seekers while asleep or in an unconscious state, diagnosing illnesses
and revealing past lives lived prior to this one (where symptoms were manifesting from previous karma) and prophecies yet to come. But
who, exactly, was Cayce?
Cacye was a psychic Christian who saw karma.
He was born on a farm in Hopkinsville,
Kentucky, in 1877, and his psychic abilities began to appear in
his childhood. He was able to see and talk to his late grandfather's
spirit, and he often played with "imaginary friends," whom he said were
spirits on the other side.
He also displayed an uncanny ability to
learn/memorize the pages of a book simply by sleeping on it. These gifts earned the young Cayce the label "strange," but all Cayce really wanted was to
help others, particularly children.
Later in life, Cayce would find that he had the
ability to put himself into a sleep-like trance state by lying down on a couch,
closing his eyes, and folding his hands over his stomach.
In this state
of deep relaxation and meditation (jhana, dhyana, zen), he was able to place his mind in contact
with all time and space -- the universal consciousness, also known as the
super-conscious mind. From there, he could respond to questions...More

Essay winner Chet Ellis, 15 (AP)
A black teenager who wrote about the "unavoidable" racial issues he faces growing up in an affluent, predominantly white Connecticut town has won an essay contest on the topic of white privilege.
Chet Ellis, a 15-year-old sophomore at Staples High School in Westport, described a discussion on getting into college one day during track practice. He wrote that a white friend said he would have no problem because he's black.
PHOTO: provided by Trey Ellis whose son, Chet Ellis, poses on April 4, 2017, in Westport, CN. Ellis wrote about his experience growing up in an affluent, predominantly white town. He was named the winner Monday night of the town's essay contest on the topic of white privilege (Tommy Fabian/Courtesy of Trey Ellis via AP)
No one has any privilege.
"I was stunned," he wrote, "and mumbled something instead of firing back, 'Your parents are third-generation Princeton and your father runs a hedge fund and yet you think my ride is free?'"
The annual essay contest, put on by the town's diversity council and the Westport Library, aims to prompt discussion of multicultural issues in the shoreline community, which is 93 percent white.
This year's topic stirred some controversy by encouraging high schoolers to describe how they have been touched by white privilege, a term used mainly by liberals that refers to unseen advantages conferred to whites, and not racial minorities. Ellis was awarded the $1,000 top prize at a ceremony Monday night.More
How to debunk "myth" of white privilege I. Rony, Wisdom Quarterly (OPINION)
First make sure you misunderstand the term, taking quite literally to mean whatever you mean by it. It's common sense, after all, not a term with an objective definition: white privilege. Reduce it to your wrong definition then attack it as demonstrably not true. "I don't have a yacht, I didn't get everything handed to me, I experience hardships too, etcetera. B*tch, moan, and whine about it in a snarky YouTube video or StormFront forum so your fellow whites can agree.
We're all equal. No one has it any harder.
Then go on FOX News, or some fringe right wing media site, maybe even join an organization of fellow whites and place informative flyers for fellow whites on the porches of neighborhood homes in Orange County. Maybe even have a meeting of fellow whites to further discuss the issue, your plight, and how much you like what Trump has promised but isn't coming through on.
After all, everybody's equal now, and no one was born with any advantage or disadvantage -- and if they were, it's their own fault!
Bill O'Reilly was right
We live in a meritocracy where you're just judged by the content of your character and willingness to work hard (because everybody gets jobs equally and no one has any inherent advantage due to race or looks) and not the color of your skin, your surname, or any other extraneous factor. Get over it if there is racism or implicit bias (unconscious prejudice) in the world and just move on. The police aren't on anyone's side and do not show favoritism ever. We elected Obama, so that proves we're post-racial.
In 1969, an enraged 19-year-old American (dead at 66) caught up in the social unrest of the period holed up in the NY Public Library and pored through every shred of mayhem he could find -- declassified military documents, US Army field guides, electronic catalogs, insurrectionist pamphlets, and survivalist manuals and eventually emerged with The Anarchist Cookbook.

There can be no anarchy as a form of governance unless people take responsibility for themselves. Then if they want some governing, they choose it the way we are promised we get can choose. We do not choose. We get fed one thing and told it's another. Far from "chaos," as they train to believe, anarchy is anti-authoritarianism, rebellion, self-rule rather than accepting the oppression brought on by profiteers, capitalists (owners of the means of production), fascists with militarized police and legalized-violence as their instrument. This film explains it well:
Anarchism in America is a colorful and provocative 1983 survey of anarchism in America. The film dispels popular
misconceptions about "anarchy" and traces the historical development of the American Anarchy Movement. The
film explores the movement both as a native American philosophy
stemming from 19th century American traditions of individualism, and as a
foreign ideology brought to America by immigrants.
Hell no, Trump!
The film features
rare archival footage and interviews with significant personalities in
anarchist history including Murray Boochkin and Karl Hess, and also live
performance footage of the super-intelligent San Francisco punk rock band the Dead Kennedys.
