Vesak: Buddhist Xmas, May full moon day

Dhr. Seven, Amber Larson, Ashley Wells, Ananda (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly Wiki edit
A human was born to complete a mission: Wake up and awaken others: The Buddha
.
Buddhist Afghanistan (R.P.)
Vesak (Pali Vesākha, Sanskrit Vaiśākha) is also known as Buddha Jayanti, Buddha Purnima (full moon day), and "Buddha Day." It is the name of the ancient month on which, on the full moon night, three marvelous things happened:
  • The Future-Buddha (Bodhisattva) was born as Prince Siddhartha Gautama.
  • The wandering ascetic Siddhartha attained a buddha's great enlightenment.
  • The Buddha consciously moved through the absorptions and passed away into is final nirvana.
Buddhist countries
Vesak is a holiday traditionally observed for thousands of years by Buddhists and some Hindus on different days in
Missionary Buddhism started on the Silk Road when the Buddha sent out 60 arhats.
Buddhism began in Afghanistan (Scythia, Shakya Land, Silk Road) and Bihar (before it India)

I want to be the Little Buddha
"Buddhist Christmas" or "The Buddha's Birthday" or the "Great Enlightenment Day" is also celebrated in many other parts of the world, wherever Buddhists live or are staying.

The festival commemorates the birth, great enlightenment (buddhahood), and passing (parinirvāna) of Siddhartha Gautama the Buddha in ancient Theravada and Tibetan Vajrayana Buddhism. More

.When is Vesak in 2020 (2563 BE)?
Look for the Earth's timekeeper the Moon.
It's easy to figure out the exact day: Determine when the month of Vaisakha falls then look for the full moon. This year it coincides with May, and the moon is full on the 6th and/or 7th.

The exact date of Vesak is based on Asian lunisolar calendars and is primarily celebrated in the Indian month of Vaisakaha on the Buddhist calendar and the Hindu (Vedic) calendar.

Full moon calendar (moonconnection.com)
Theravada Buddhist countries follow the BUDDHIST CALENDAR, which is based on the dependable phases of the moon. The uposatha (fasting or Eight Precept observance day), typically in the 5th or 6th lunar month.

Nowadays, in many countries it is celebrated on the full moon day in May on the Gregorian calendar. (Because of all these regional and sectarian variations, Vesak lasts all month longs and usually spills into the beginning and end of adjacent months. More

Abusive LAPD beating caught on VIDEO

Channel 5, LA (KTLA.com); ABC News; Pfc. Sandoval, Seth Auberon (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly

This shocking case of excessive force comes on the anniversary of the deadly Los Angeles riots of 1992, which were set off by the exact same kind of police abuse, internalized racism, "street justice," impunity, and overpolicing of minority communities.

Video shows LAPD officer striking man repeatedly in Boyle Heights, prompting investigation
Kristina Bravo, Steve Kuzj (KTLA, May 5, 2020) edited to make it more accurate
We abuse. We lie about it. And we get off. lol
The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) was forced to announce an investigation Monday after embarrassing footage surfaced online of a uniformed officer repeatedly punching in the head a detained, noncombative, nonviolent victim in Boyle Heights.

The officer did this on April 27, 2020 in the 2400 block of Houston Street, near Soto Street, according to the police department.

Video recorded by a bystander from across the street shows two LAPD officers, one male and one female, detaining a man on a sidewalk by a church.

An initial verbal exchange between the male officer and the victim is unclear, but the officer begins violently beating and striking the civilian at least nine times in the head from behind, for no apparent reason, while screaming expletives at him in front of the female officer as if to show her how masculine and dominant he is.

The beating victim crouches down as he asks the officer, “What is wrong with you?” possibly in answer to the officer first aggressively asking the same thing. The officer's attack lasts about 20 seconds, video shows.

The female officer at first stands passively behind and illegally allows the beating, which appears to be a felony in itself but enhanced by the fact that it is done under color of uniform, then apparently places her hand on her partner’s arm before he would throw another punch.

[Police are actively investigating to see if there is any way to possibly absolve the offending officer or otherwise make this all go away without a criminal case or civil lawsuit for the city. And the DA is helping them in this endeavor, as the LAPD investigates itself, promising not to be biased.] More

T. Chamorro-Premuzic (TEDx, 3/26/19); Ashley Wells, Seth Auberon (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly

Why do so many incompetent men become leaders?
There is a pathological mismatch between the qualities that seduce us in a leader and those that are needed to be an effective leader.

Based on research on the psychology of leadership, Dr. Tomas Chamorro-Premuzic shows that if leaders were selected on competence rather than confidence, humility rather than charisma, and integrity rather than narcissism, we would end up with more competent leaders and also more female leaders.

In fact, he argues, the main obstacle preventing competent women from becoming leaders is the lack of career obstacles for incompetent men.

Bob Lazar blows whistle on UFOs (video)

ABC News; Derek Van Schaik, 7/30/19; Pfc. Sandoval, Seth Auberon (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly

Does body language prove Bob Lazar worked on alien spacecraft at S4, Groom Lake, or Dream Land, all part of "Area 51"?
Van Schaik
Did government contractor Bob Lazar actually work on recovered UFOs? The scientist has for decades to have been hired by Naval Intelligence to reverse-engineer extraterrestrial alien spacecraft at "Area 51," an assortment of military installations and restricted airspace in the Nevada desert.''

He has for decades said he worked for the U.S. government. Since surfacing and blowing the whistle, he has been questioned, tested, and re-interviewed many times. Now let’s analyze his unconscious body language to find out.

Bob Lazar claims he worked on UFOs, saucers, alien spacecraft (Sanskrit vimanas) at Area 51 (at S4 to be exact) for the U.S. government in the late 1980s.

For this video it’s important for viewers to know that the analyst, Derek Van Schaik, has any biases going into this review. He claims he has never seen a UFO or space aliens but, like many, he believes we are probably not alone in the universe.

Prior to this analysis he had not heard of Bob Lazar, and when he did, he thought Lazar must be at least a little deceitful because this story is so extraordinary.

What’s interesting is that over the past few years, the U.S. government has become more open to admitting the existence of UFOs (UAP or "unidentified aerial phenomena," for which there is overwhelming evidence).

It is interesting that the U.S. government is no longer claiming to completely ignore these claims anymore.

That's probably because when something odd is seen, it can now more easily be recorded because cameras are everywhere, and things are recorded, and the internet can spread it across the world in seconds before it is sunk, "debunked," altered, taken down, and suppressed by government agencies.

Is Lazar telling the truth or lying?
What’s interesting about all this is that someone is lying: It’s either the U.S. government for hiding and covering all this up, or it’s whistleblower Bob Lazar, who likely left their lab with physical evidence they want back. They still follow him and tap all of his communications.

Let’s put our neutral hats on to analyze Bob Lazar’s body language, piece together his story, and review the evidence to find out if he is being truthful or lying.

Things about Mexico: Cinco de Mayo (video)

eTraffic; NBC; Cabello; Crystal Quintero, Xochitl, Pfc. Sandoval (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly

A Brief History and Facts About Mexico and Cinco De Mayo
Cinco de Mayo is Spanish for the "Fifth of May." It is a commemoration of the victory of an outnumbered army of indigenous Mexicans over invading French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5th, 1862.

The unexpected triumph of the Mexicans proved to the world that their will to defend their nation’s sovereignty would prevail against a powerful foreign invader.

Who or what are Chicanos of the USA?
Unfortunately, in the USA it is often mistaken as Mexico’s Independence Day (its 4th of July), which is celebrated on September 16th.

Although Cinco de Mayo has dwindled down to a relatively minor event in Mexico today, the U.S. significantly celebrates it by highlighting its massive Mexican-American or Chicano culture and, by extension, its large Latinx population, often mistaken to all be from Mexico.

(NBC News) What do North Americanoss know about Cinco de Mayo?

Cinco de Mayo’s significance to world history is more than about having a day dedicated to feasting on Mexican Food, abusing Margaritas, and wearing loud sombreros. So to give a better understanding of what Cinco de Mayo is all about, let’s go back to where and how it all began: the American Civil War as experienced by Mexicans.

Mexico was very big before the USA.
What we call "Mexico" is actually officially named the "United Mexican States" (Estados Unidos Mexicanos). It is a very racially diverse country, the former Mayan, Aztec, and Toltec Empires. It is composed of an assortment of Native Americans blended with European invaders and others.

The indigenous language of Mexico is not Spanish. (That's the imperial invading European language that Spain brought, which is related to Latin, the language of the Roman Empire from Rome and Italy). Mexico's language is Nahuatl.

Model of the massive Cholula Great Pyramid
Mexico is not in South America. It is not even in Central America. It is actually part of North America, but to exclude it someone came up with a special category of its own, "Mesoamerica." Mexico has the world's largest pyramid (Cholula) and canyons larger than the U.S. Grand Canyon, but nobody knows that. California is Mexico; it's just that the top part, Alta California, was annexed by the USA. But Mexico didn't stop there. It extended beyond, and European powers divided it.

The early 1860s were witness to a time of great indebtedness by Mexico to France, England, and Spain as a result of the Mexican-American War and the Reform War.to France, England, and Spain as a result of the Mexican-American War and the Reform War.

Mexican President Benito Juárez suspended the payment of Mexico’s foreign debts for two years. Only France turned down the notion of a negotiation. Napoleon III, then ruler of France, saw this as an opportunity to build a Second Mexican Empire in Mexico with France reaping the benefits this time instead of Spain.

During the latter part of 1861, France’s Naval fleet attacked Veracruz and halted Pres. Juarez and his government.

In May 1862, French forces led by General Charles de Lorencez attacked Mexico City but were resisted by General Ignacio Zaragoza’s strong willed Mexican troops near Puebla de los Angeles ("Town of the Angels").

(Camilla Cabello) Mexican culture in a Cuban nutshell. While Latin America is amazingly diverse within, from the outside it must appear very similar -- sexual, sultry, family-oriented, emotional, sentimental, expressive, rebellious, closeted/trans, multi-racial, and warm.

Two thousand poorly-equipped Mexican fighters stood against 6,000 well-armed and well-trained professional French soldiers, known at that time as the “world’s premier army.”

Nearly 500 French soldiers and fewer than 100 Mexicans were killed in a battle that went on from dawn until dusk.

The famous Aztec (not Mayan) Calendar
Sensing an eminent defeat, the French forces retreated. Mexico’s determination, unity, and patriotism won over France’s brutal attack. This was a much needed morale boost for the Mexican Army and to Mexico as a nation.

There’s so much to tell about what took place in Puebla, but what needs to be remembered seems to have been forgotten by most of those who should be passing down the story.

Mexico may have lost battles after that great victory, but Cinco de Mayo will always be a reminder to everyone that a grain of hope, no matter how small and insignificant it may be to others, can make the impossible possible.

Rape culture says: Biden or Trump? (video)

Joe Biden talks about his “grope game”
About TJDS: #TheJimmyDoreShow is a hilarious and irreverent take on news, politics, and culture featuring Jimmy Dore, a professional stand up comedian, author, and podcaster formerly on the TYT.

I have two faces. Thanks for your help, DNC.
[Why bad mouth the Democratic candidate, even if he is a sexual predator? Trump is, too! Don't you see that you're helping Trump get re-elected?! Good question. Donny didn't get elected. He got selected. Bernie could have beat Donny last time like he beat Hillary, except the DNC destroyed Bernie. Bernie wasn't in the plan. The DNC answers to the same interests that control the Republicans. We have a one party system with two wings.

Aahhh, I can be as manly as that Don guy!
And by selecting Joey Biden, the DNC is ensuring that Trump will get another four years. And no one stands up and says anything about that, except maybe Jimmy Dore. Bernie is a sell out. He tricked us and sold us out last time, and he did it again this time. Will the DNC insert Hillary at the last minute, or maybe Warren or some other tool?

Creep in chief? Just like Trump (DDees)
The Republicans are just trying to win with non-Republican Trump. The DNC is again actively trying to lose. In a fair trial Hillary would never have gotten to run. So it is all fixed, and we need radical change. Electoral politics in our corrupt money system does not work, and voting between two rapists, Tweedle-dee and Tweedle-dumb, is not a choice.]

OMG, you guys are drunk doing "science."
Sipping cocktails in a cheesy art-deco building with string theorist and science "superstar" Robbert Dijkgraaf [dick-graft] as he boasted about the fundamental laws of Nature. Afterwards, cellist and composer Benjamin Glorieux performed a musical piece together with invited guests commissioned for the occasion, while live-video artist Klaas Verpoest accompanied them with his visual magic. [One illusion deserves another.]

How many strings, 11...or 13? I think 13.
What is string theory? What happens to stuff that falls inside a black hole [assuming black holes exist, but there's math we say says they do]? What are the fundamental building blocks of space and time? [The Buddhists say kalapas, but science says it's sparticles and stuff.] Did Nature have any choice in picking the fundamental laws of physics? What is the role of mathematics in physics? "Super Size Me: Holy Chicken"! (film)

Morgan Spurlock (YouTube Movies, 2/27/20); Seth Auberon, CC Liu (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly

In the 13 years since Super Size Me, the fast-food industry has undergone a makeover.

Today, chain restaurants mislabel and tout food that's "healthy," "organic," and "natural." Filmmaker Morgan Spurlock explores this new reality with an approach even more immersive and subversive than that used for his first film:

He sets out to open his own cooked dead chicken franchise. Follow him every step of the way, from raising baby chickens (depersonalized by calling them "poultry") and conjuring recipes once they're slaughtered and beheaded, to designing the brand and scouting a location.

Spurlock brings his disarming humor to uncover the truths and lies behind this multibillion-dollar industry.

Navigating a world of cynics and opportunists, Spurlock comes across like a hillbilly Jimmy Stewart type with refreshing optimism. He confronts one challenge after another inn his mission to live up to his ideals.

The film feels especially timely when the U.S. has a junkfood-loving president and an epidemic of false claims in advertising. Spurlock pays close attention to the Orwellian (Newspeak) buzzwords that marketers use to bring a "health halo" to toxic industrial food.

While the original Super Size Me made a specific example of McDonald's, this compelling sequel focuses on new targets and doesn't hold back on naming names. (We're looking at you, KFC).

The film builds momentum towards the day when Spurlock puts his reputation on the line by serving his first customers.

Provider: Samuel Goldwyn. Rating: PG-13. Release date: 2019. Running time: 1:42:58. Actors: Morgan Spurlock, Jonathan Buttram. Director: Morgan Spurlock. Producers: Keith Calder, Jess Wu Calder, Spencer Silna, Nicole Barton, Jeremy Chilnick, Matthew Galkin, Morgan Spurlock. Writers: Jeremy Chilnick, Morgan Spurlock. Genre: Independent documentary.
